Anyone have any ideas for a good book to read together in November?

I really want to avoid using polls because I think some people vote on polls just for fun without really planning on reading the book. We have only a few active members so I'm going to try something new. If you see a book you WILL read next month (if it's chosen) please comment. If you are planning on reading more than one book that is mentioned feel free to chime in for both books. I'll keep a running tally of all the comments for each book mentioned.

If there is enough interest in a couple books then we could have more than one going - kind of like buddy reads I guess...

Anyways - What books are you planning on reading in the next month that might be good for a group/buddy read?

That is a series I've been wanting to start too! I don't think I'd be able to get through the first 5 books in time but there are probably others that will be reading it soon. Good suggestion Carolyn!

message 6: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I have it staring at me on my dresser and I want to get to it as soon as I catch up on my library books.

message 7: by Kim (new)

Kim (mrsnesbitt) | 77 comments Rosemary and Rue by Seanann McGuire. It's book 1 of 3 so far. She's new to urban fantasy and is right up there with Jim Butcher, Kelley Armstrong, and the other modern greats. It is a rich world of the fey living in our time, but focusing on changelings.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_anne) | 60 comments I have already read both Alpha by Rachel Vincent and Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire (both of which were great!!).

I would be up for Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green I've been wanting to start this series for a while, so this would be an excuse to move it up on my TBR list.

message 9: by Lily (last edited Oct 20, 2010 10:54AM) (new)

Lily (lilithesque) Some books I am going to read next month are:

The Fall The Fall (Strain Trilogy #2) by Guillermo Del Toro
I reserved it and hoped to get to it this month but it didn't happen. I am still pretty far down the reserved list so--NOVEMBER

Masques (Sianim, #1) Masques (Sianim, #1) (Aralorn, #1) by Patricia Briggs One of two books by Briggs I haven't read. LONG AWAITED! almost to top of wait list on this one.

Regarding the books others have mentioned, I love Green, but am about 6 books into that series. I will probobly chime in though. Read Rosemary and rue and the rest of that series already. Dont really like the Vincint series. However the first couple in that series were pretty good.

A quick glance of the books I have from the library and those on reserve about to be picked up or next two in line are:

Dust Dust by Joan Frances Turner (got some buzz going about it) Zombie stuff.

Boneshaker Boneshaker (The Clockwork Century, #1) by Cherie Priest (More zombie stuff, also really good buzz.)

Magic Study Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder (Another YA, but I am reading this for me. I loved Poison Study)

Killbox Killbox (Sirantha Jax, #4) by Ann Aguirre Latest in a sci fi romantic series I love.

Venom Venom (Elemental Assassin, #3) by Jennifer Estep (Next in the Elemental assasin series. I really am enjoying this series. Fresh and fast paced!

Bayou Moon Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews Same author as Magic strikes series. Second in this series. Pretty good urban fantasy although its more rural than urban--but set in modern times about a swamp witch, and an alternate magical world. Probobly more paranormal romance.

Shakespeare Undead Shakespeare Undead by Lori Handeland I love this author. She does urban fantasy/erotica/PNR as good as any. This looks different and I just wanna see what this is about.

Torment Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate Cuz Im reading it with my granddaughter.

Hush, Hush Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick Grand daughter again
Eighth Grade Bites Eighth Grade Bites (The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, #1) by Heather Brewer Granddaughter again

The YA books I am reading with my granddaughter (twelve). She has discovered grandma reads cool stuff, so some YA, I would probobly pass on, I am now reading and enjoying through her.

Any of these that folks are interested in I will be sure to read for NOV.

Lily, I just got my copy of The Fall today! I probably won't be able to get to it until next month (maybe late October if I'm quick).

message 11: by Lily (last edited Oct 20, 2010 10:59AM) (new)

Lily (lilithesque) Yea. Me too(will read in NOV) I still haven't recieved it from the library yet. Can not wait! You have great control. I would be ripping into it, no matter what "plan" I had ;-)

message 12: by Kertu (new)

Kertu (koiliblikas) I think Something from the Nightside would be a great choice. I've been seeing this series everywhere recently so I'm planning to read it quite soon. As this is said I vote for it.

message 13: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Hollyberry | 8 comments I vote for Rosemary and Rue.

Lily (lilithesque) Suzie,

My granddaughter states that Eighth Grade Bites is so popular, you cant even dream of getting it from her middle school library. It sounds cute. Did you enjoy it?

message 16: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Whytock Something from the Nightside would get my vote. I've just joined this group and have a massive reading list; though the more interesting ones get priority.

Elizabeth Yu-Gesualdi | 2 comments I recommend Solstice by Debbie Christiana by Debbie Christiana. This novel deals with a form of witchcraft called Stregheria. I learned a lot about it (Ms. Christiana definitely did her homework!) and really found it interesting. Not just the practice, the storyline itself was great!
