Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
review by Amy B.~member of TAB@South Jordan Library
Halo is a book by Alexandra Adornetto. The setting is a sleepy town called Venus Cove and is set in the present time. There are many characters that play a part in this book. The three Angels sent down to earth to complete their divine mission are:
Gabriel: the oldest
Ivy: the healer
Bethany: the youngest and least experienced
There is also a demon whose name is Jake Thorn. Bethany has a love interest. His name is Xavier Woods. . .he is human.
Bethany and her siblings first meet Xavier while walking down the beach on their first night in Venus Cove. There is a sudden connection between the two of them and her siblings lead her away from him. Seeing as they are angels the family must adapt to being in a human form. They decide that it would be best for Bethany and Gabriel to go to school, Bethany as the student and Gabriel as a music teacher.
Bethany is the most human so she instantly makes friends with a girl named Molly. Many of her new found friends are all excited about the prom which is coming up in a few weeks. Xavier seems perfect in every way, even though Molly says he has "baggage." His girlfriend Emily died in a fire and he has never dated since. Now he has taken an interest in Beth. They go out and despite Gabriel's and Ivy's objections. She eventually revels her wings to him and their relationship grows.
A new student arrives at the school and quickly takes an interest in Beth, who has made it clear to him that she is unavailable. Meanwhile, strange things are happening. Sadness, gloom, and even death spread throughout the town. The angels are doing everything they can to make the town better and help the community. The date of prom arrives Xavier gets injured in his rugby game and is unable to make it to prom with Beth. Jake takes his place and causes trouble thoughout the rest of the book, which ends with a cliffhanger.
My favorite part in the book was probably when Beth and Xavier went on their first date. It was so cute and I just loved it. It was also very descriptive.
I personally thought this book was great. It kind of reminded me of Twilight, but reversed so she was the fantasy creature while he was the human. So, if you liked Twilight, you will really like this book. I know I loved it.
