Please read the rules for nominating BEFORE you create your post!! And Check our bookshelves to be sure you are not nominating something we have already read as a group!

We will have two catagories this month:
Cat1- Regular Fiction/Non-Fiction
Cat2- Christmas Theme

Only ONE nomination per person.
If you nominate a book for catagory 1, you CANNOT nominate a book for catagory 2, and visa versa.

Please be sure to post the title, author, and the catagory it belongs to.

If your post does not have those three things, it will not be counted.

Are you ready?

I will accept nominations through Wednesday evening. If we get tons of nominations, I may pull the plug on it a little early, so get them in as soon as you can!

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Hit us with your best noms!

message 17: by Scribble (last edited Nov 14, 2010 06:43AM) (new)

Scribble Orca (scribbleorca) | 17 comments Category 1; Fiction:
The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell

This is a group of four novels. In the first, Justine, Durrell explores human relationships as told from the perspective of the main protagonist, a youngish school teacher Darley. In Balthazar, Darley comes to understand his relationships through the re-telling from the perspective of a friend. Mountolive is concerned with those characters who were peripheral in the other two books, while the protagonists play smaller roles. The Quartet concludes with Clea, which brings together the different strands of perspective and fuses them in Darley's understanding. The interplay of relationships and perspectives, which both represent and drive plot, occurs against the backgroup of mounting tension in Europe, political intrigue and is set in a lush and beguiling depiction of mid-20th century Alexandria.

What makes Durrell remarkable, apart from wit and brilliant prose, is his ability to tell stories within stories, and weave time lines backwards and forwards. It's almost a literary representation of Einstein's relativity theory (strange as that sounds :D).

While this is in the Discworld series, it isn't absolutely necessary that you've read others to enjoy this holiday tale.

K.S.R. (kareyshane) | 17 comments Dang, dang, dang. I missed nominating Secret Speakers and the Search for Selador's Gate by less than an hour.

SLJ gave it a starred review and compared it to the Narnia novels, so it's got a great Christmas theme, if you know what I mean. Any chance you can add it? Perty please?

Hey Karey, I responded to your email. I'm sorry, but I can't. It wouldn't be fair to everyone else who missed yesterdays cut off....

message 32: by Lahni (new)

Lahni Lori, in the poll you listed what I believe is supposed to be The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls as "the glass house" I didn't nominate the book but I want to be sure everyone is considering the correct books. :)

Thanks Lahni, I will go and change it. It's always helpful when people post their nominations correctly, but even better when we monitor each other :)
