He's fast become one of my favorite authors. I'm usually speechless after I read him, but I've somehow been able to muster up a few words about him in this review of Vertigo.

I've read that he worked REALLY CLOSELY with his English translator, which makes me happy because I know I'm getting the closest version to what the author intended.

Has anybody read Sebald? Does anybody have any thoughts on him?

Rise He is one of my favorites! So much so that last year I opened up a Sebald discussion group in Shelfari.

I've read 3 books by him. My personal favorite is 'The Emigrants' which I've read 3 times already and still see myself reading again.

I think he founded or was the first director of the British Centre for Literary Translation so we can expect how he must have worked toward bringing his own work in good translation. There's an annual Sebald lecture on literary translation, named in honor of him.
