Mikela I highly recommend Greg Mortenson's book "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time. Greg provides a look into the lives of Muslims living in the poor, neglected villages on the mountains of Pakistan with their inate dignity, their thirst for education for their children and capacity for love and friendship. A real eye opener.

Lesley | 149 comments I have read both of Greg Mortenson's books and are some of my favorite reads. I actually thought his second book, Stones to Schools, was more interesting and better written.

Mikela Thanks for the information - wasn't aware that he'd written a second book - will be sure to give it a read.

Mary | 31 comments 3. The Grapes of WrathWant to re-read
4. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich well worth a read
5. Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach A very "different" kind of book Thought provoking to say the least.
7. One Hundred Years of Solitude When I read it first in Spanish, I had trouble understanding it, a re-read in English told me my Spanish was adequate, my understanding a bit sketchy, guess that's the point.
9. Siddhartha A classic!
Temples, Tombs & Hieroglyphs: A Popular History of Ancient Egypt ooh, going to steal that for my list
