By drawing cartoons, Junior feels safe. He draws “because I want to talk to the world. And I want the world to pay attention to me.”

How do Junior’s cartoons (for example, the ones called “Who my parents would have been if somebody had paid attention to their dreams” and “white, white, white, white, white, white” and “white/Indian”) show his understanding of the ways that racism has deeply impacted his and his family’s lives?

Jovan | 6 comments He is saying He and his family can be just as rich as the white people. The only reason there not is because no one wants to pay attention to there dreams. He and his family have been effected in the following ways.
He was bullied by the andrews brothers Who are 30.
He was bullied by RogerAnd even a girl for a little.
Now there BOY FRIEND & GIRL FRIEND.

Chyna Powell | 4 comments Junior did his cartoon like that because he wants to show the difference between white person and an indian person. For example he should how the white man had on a Ralph Lauren polo shirt and he shows the indian man with a K-mart shirt, He shows how the white man haves on a pair of jordans and the indian man haves on a pair of shoes from the supermarket. What Junior is trying to say is that the white person is rich and the indian is poor, and Juniors trynna say his poor but goes to a white school. -,-

Alyza | 4 comments Well to me Junior's family is just plain wrong because you are Indian doesn't mean that you can't reach your dream they just gave up like everyone else and they are trying to be supportive to there son and everything but it kind of hard if you never accomplished anything.

Charlene Skinner | 10 comments Well I would say that Jr. family is all messed up
because of the racism because the whites get much more money . They barely get a dime. They maybe even have to take a secound job cause of that. Or maybe they can't get one. The whites really don't have to really work. They got enough money to last them for 5 years. The indians feel as if they don't get anything because of their skin color. Now that's down right wrong .People should get a equal share of money. Well back then people do what ever they want.

Jovan | 6 comments He is depreesed. He wants to be a different Rase.He is on his guard every were.Because even his own rase hates him. It's enough just to be hated but by your own rase.

Joseph | 5 comments As Jovan says he is very depreesed. Hes very depeesed because hes dad takes the only money that they have and go gets drunk. That can realy effect hes life. The thing I like is that instead of coming home drunk and hut someone he dosen't.Everything around him is going in flames, his grandma dieds and his dad makes x-mas suck.

message 8: by Arly (new)

Arly Castellanos | 16 comments I think Junior can tell that racism has deeply affected his life and family because not only is there obvious traces of racism in his drawings, but he talks about it often. Indians are considered idiots by the teachers and Reardan and more. Indians are thought to be rich just because they have a casino. He gets critisized for being Indian. If that isn't racism , I don't know what is.

Charlene , I beg a differ. To me, it isn't because of their skin color. Sure, their skin color is a factor , but that isn't all of it. The fact that they look different and act different gives them that reputation. The white people do have to work, hard too. They are middle class on the verge or in upper class. Some of them aren't even completely rich.

message 10: by Mahogani (new)

Mahogani | 25 comments how it effected his family's life was he felt as his family didn't get as much because of there skin color.and also most of the white people feel as if the Indians have to go to the casino to get their money instead of working.

message 11: by Dariq (new)

Dariq Wigfall | 7 comments It shows that he knows what's going on around him. He is aware of the way people look at him and his family. I say this because the cartoon he drew on white white white white white and white/Indian was like him saying , white people get the up to date stuff while Indians gather up what ever they can. He also know that racism is the reason why his family is very poor.

Taelornisbeth | 5 comments Junior did that because he wants to show the difference between whites/Indians. Also to show that white people have more of a brighter future then Indians. Also in the difference in how they dress. But thats not true. but Indians are considered rich because they have casino.

message 13: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 7 comments Jr. draws because "he wants to talk to the world" and he wants it to listen. But since Jr. is Indian no one will listen to him because "Indians are not good enough to talk to or listen to." But if draws people will look past that and see what you want to say and they will listen for two reasons 1.they are to lazy to find the artist or 2. you use a pseudonym. Jr has lived with racism since the day he was borne that's all he knows he never new equal or part of it was either your white or your not thats it end of the line period.
