Here is a poem I wrote for my coursework. It is one of the anecdotes from Angela Carter's 'The Company of Wolves' in poetry form.
A fine fair maiden United at noon Retreat to your chamber Soon thou shalt conceive. The maiden’s spouse passionate and eager summoned by nature to relieve his bladder. An era goes by An era’s born new A trio of darlings Made with ardour anew.
The door moans he is restored mane alive with lice, attire stale for cabbage he yearns.
Gazes rest on his eyes a fire lights inside still – silent outside a furious gale. Metamorphosis raw howl of the wolf the aphotic night breaks a glutton carnivore incarnate. The eldest runt his limb lacerate Mr Surrogate appears the heart the axe penetrates. Now sprawled upon the ground no mutilated body of a fiend no savage snout of a swine Only vacant eyes of a man.
A fine fair maiden
United at noon
Retreat to your chamber
Soon thou shalt conceive.
The maiden’s spouse
passionate and eager
summoned by nature
to relieve his bladder.
An era goes by
An era’s born new
A trio of darlings
Made with ardour anew.
The door moans
he is restored
mane alive with lice, attire stale
for cabbage he yearns.
Gazes rest on
his eyes a fire lights
inside still – silent
outside a furious gale.
Metamorphosis
raw howl of the wolf
the aphotic night breaks
a glutton carnivore incarnate.
The eldest runt
his limb lacerate
Mr Surrogate appears
the heart the axe penetrates.
Now sprawled upon the ground
no mutilated body of a fiend
no savage snout of a swine
Only vacant eyes of a man.
