The County Library discussion

The Cookbook Collector won the poll, so it will be our January book club pick. For all you Reader's Choice fans, it's on the list for the next session (January-April 2011). I haven't read it yet, but here's the review Marsha posted to the group:

This is the first book I've been excited about in quite awhile. It is definitely a quirky character novel centering around two sisters, one a philosophy doctoral student working in a used/rare books store, the other a CEO of a dotcom startup. The characters are very real and likable, literature and philosophy place a role in the story as well as 9/11.

This is a novel for people who like development of the characters. The story moves along, but I liked it for the people in the novel. The contrast between the two sisters seems great, but in the end their distinctly different personalities are not so different after all. I gave it 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book as well. The characters were flawed but likeable. I would also give it 4 stars and for someone who "collects" stuff it also had a nice feel. (I don't think anyone will ever come and catalog my cookie cutters but I could dream. The little "mysteries" of life add to the book
