what are you reading at the moment?

message 2: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I'm reading "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" and really enjoying it. I'm about two thirds of the way through and reading quite quickly for me!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Just read Jump by Jilly Cooper - not my cup of tea - I should know better. Now reading The Snowman by Jo Nesbo, set in Norway. it's jumping around a bit without much explanation, but maybe I have not quite got into the characters yet, still early in the book. I think it will shape up quite well.

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) Currently I'm reading The Confession which I just got for Christmas and so far it seems pretty interesting.

I am also reading The Farthest Shore. I've read the first three in this series and so far I really like this one too.

I started reading Phineas Finn not long ago and after dragging myself past the first 70 pages with continues threats to give up, it really started improving. I'm glad that I stuck with it.

I was reading, but put on hold, False Memory which was really good in the begining but has gotten really predictable. I'm not sure I am gonna finish it.

Relieved to read that you've changed your opinion of "Phineas Finn"! I bought it in a charity shop a few weeks' ago, and I had an "oh no" moment when I read an earlier comment you made. I've only read one other Trollope - "Barchester Towers" and really liked it.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I have just begun The Marlowe Conspiracy (on Kindle via Amazon). I'm fascinated by Christopher Marlowe, although there is very little in the way of actual facts about him. This is a another fictional account of events leading to his death.
Might be another "late into the night" read.

I've just added this book to my TBR list, but will have to look for a hard copy.

I have definitely changed my opinion of Phineas Finn, getting past that first part is definitely worth the effort. Since I have manage to finish
The Farthest Shore, which was as good as the first three, I plan on focusing on Finn which keeps getting better.

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I finished reading The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in the wee small hours of the morning - great story! Loved it! Now, I think I'll have a browse through my new cookery book - Nigella's Kitchen - Christmas present from daughter Anna - before starting Room.

Calum (thesecretwriter) | 2 comments I've just started to read a novel by A.D.Millar called 'Snowdrops'. It's a psychological drama of an Englishman's winter spent in modern Moscow. It's something different from what I normally read but is holding my interest so far.

Have you read Tamburlaine Must Die by Louise Welsh? It's a novella based on Christopher Marlowe's last few days. I picked it up from a charity shop just before Christmas. It's got mixed reviews on Amazon, so I'd be interested in hearing what you made of it if you've read it.
I'm currently reading Second Shot by Zoe Sharp. She's a new author for me, and I'm not far into the book, but it's looking promising so far.

message 20: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments Hi Jackie
I read Tamburlaine Must Die after Chris had posted on Book Army that she had read it. I thought it was very good - not long enough though! (I know it's a novella) Definitely worth reading.

I was like that with Barchester Towers. It took a while to read, but I was so glad I stuck with it. There was so much to enjoy.

Just starting [book:Chosen To Die|6385574. Think this may be a quick read cos the font is HUGE so not quite as big a book as it looks and seems fairly easy to read! Not much concentration required!!

I haven't read the Woman in Black yet, but I enjoyed The Man in the Picture. Have you read any of her Simon Serrallier series? I've got the first one (The Various Haunts of Men), but I think it will be a while before I get to it.

message 40: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I only "discovered" Susan hill after seeing her on the Sky Arts book show and and bought her book the very next day. It took a a little while before I got to it, but then I devoured it in a day or so. It's quite short.
I have been meaning to look out other books

message 49: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I just finished The Case Has Alteredand I liked it but I must admit I had it figured out who did it about middle way thru it.

Currently I'm about half way thru Something Wicked This Way Comes and I'm not really loving this one. I think I will manage to finish it but will be glad to see it over. I also am just getting started on The Aeneid and I think this one is gonna be a tough read.

Mary (ivybuttons) | 1431 comments I'm reading, well nearly finished The Devils Star by Jo Nesbo, I'm really enjoying it . I read the Snowman first and liked it but if I'd read the Devils Star first it would have made the Snowman less disjointed.
