Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Here is where we post our official lists and update our progress.

Special thanks to the members who regularly stop by at the Suggestions Thread and share their input. It definitely helped me a lot when I put together the monthly categories. Thanks, guys.

1. January: Read a book which title starts with “J”.

2. Birthday: Read a book from a January B-day celebrant’s GR bookshelf whose “day” falls on the same “day” as yours. If no one has the exact same day, then go for the closest date. (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...)

3. Geography: Read a book whose author, setting or character is from Delaware.

4. New Year Read a book by an author that is 'new' to you.

5. Beginnings Read a book that is the first book in a series, or a debut novel by an author.

6. Appreciate your Dragon Day Read a book that has dragons in it.

7. National Take Back Your Time Week Read a book with time travel, or has an element of time as part of its title (midnight, noon, evening, etc).

8. Rose Parade: Read a book that has flowers on its cover or as part of its title.

9. January Weather Depending on where you are, January can be a 'cold' month or a 'hot' month. Read a book that is set in a place that has the opposite weather to where you currently are.

10. Reader's Choice

Challenge Duration: January 1 – January 31, 2011

You can choose 3, 5, 8 or all 10 categories depending on your reading speed, books availability and/or time commitment.

When posting your challenge progress, please make sure to put the date/s when you finished your book/s. It will really help us with the group updates.

Here to another year of great reading!

*list still subject to change

I'm coming clean. I cheated the geography category. I was looking up shelves under Dover and saw His Majesty's Dragon. It's a really amazing book, however, due to my ignorance, I didn't know that there's also a Dover in UK. I just realized it when I was already in the middle and engrossed with the book. I was supposed to set things right, but I'm afraid there's no more time for me to do so. It's already January 31 here in the Philippines, and I just finished 1443 pages of The Fiery Cross. But still, His Majesty's Dragon was a pretty neat discovery. There's almost no regrets for me. I just wish I had more time.

Honestly, I've been going through my bookcase PRAYING I'll find something. I also go through the thread looking for ideas that hopefully suit me. Tonight I started making a spreadsheet, but I'm not sure it will help me this month.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments For the state thing, which I never seem to fill on these-either because I just don't have anything or I don't it read in time. I usually end up just seeing what other people use and see if I have that book or author (if the author is from that state). I know I have PA books for the Dec one but it's a time thing now.

If you use paperbackswap and have your books logged into the TBR pile you can search that. I wonder if any books in PBS are tagged with Delaware. I'll have to look.

message 43: by Mary X (last edited Dec 24, 2010 06:33AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Hey would an Alex Delaware by Jonathan Kellerman count?
The only books that came up on PBS that are tagged Delaware are the Alex Delaware books, some Historical Society books, and:

true crime book: Above The Law by Brian Karem

and Harlequin Romance: (odd title for a little series romance) Death Spiral by Patricia Rosemore. It says it's part of the American Heroes series and is Delaware #8. So maybe there's more in that series. And thats all I've got.

message 46: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) searches I've done show Alex Delaware, Washington crossing the Delaware and the Delaware Indians. I was hoping there was a list someone had found that listed books by state.

Perhaps we could start such a list here in RRC. As people read a book they could add it to the list thread for each state or foreign locale. What do you folks think?

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Lets see if this link works. I used it when I did a mileage challenge based in the US on paperbackswap last year.

http://www.bibliotravel.com/locale.ph...

well it still doesn't list many books for Delaware but it might help someone with other states in future challenges.

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Question Yz,
6. Appreciate your Dragon Day Read a book that has dragons in it.

- does the dragon have to be a character or can a character be nicknamed a dragon or can it just be titled something to do with a dragon?
