message 19: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Well there are 316 members now. Which is still kinda low considering the popularity of Vampire books and stories. They should do a Harry Potter turns into vampire book. Voldemort turns Harry into a vamp. I can see the title. Harry Potter, and "The Well of Blood",LOL. Well I think there are more people joing every day. Cheers Vamp Diciples, Cary

message 20: by Carissa (new)

Carissa (Scarlet_Raven) | 1 comments another really good vampire series i have read is the Vampire Kisses series, its kinda like twilight, only with more of a gothic teen twist

message 21: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Yeah I can see that. Gothic teens is a good back ground for a vamp book. I knew some goth kids. One of whom firmly believed he was a vampire. He was just scarry and gross,LOL. Fotuantely most Goth kids are not like that at all. Real fun nice people who like to dress crazy and have a good time.

message 22: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Goth has been around a long time. As have I being 53. But I hang with all ages and kinds of people. Some people have hang ups about age. I remember when I was 23 at an Agent Orange show. This teenage kid came up and asked me was I not a little to old to be there? Then he said "but you look cool so I guess its OK". LOL

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you so much for understanding Cary goth's seem to have a bad reputation even tho were not bad ppl... its nice to no someone doesnt just gudge ppl by there looks... some of my best friends are vampires... lol

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

and i would love to invite some of my friends

message 25: by Cary (last edited Feb 14, 2009 05:28AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Goth has been around a long time. Most Goths are nice people and not really outsiders. I was a rockabilly punk guy myself. But I am older and back to playing blues like I have since I was 15. But this is a site about Vampires. Not Goths or Punks or Rockabilly boys. All kinds of Vampires.

message 29: by Kami (new)

Kami D yeah accualy. but i posted it on the topic whos your favorite vampire, so u can look there, i kinda forgot, lol

message 30: by Elke (last edited Feb 19, 2009 03:01AM) (new)

Elke (misspider) I don't think that the size (of a group ;) really matters... I think it's more important to have seriously interested and active members instead of just raising the 'body count'.

Regarding my favourite vampire character: no, it is not Edward - yes, I am really one of those freaks who don't like him. Spontaneously I would choose a movie character, which is Silus from Perfect Creature. But I also have a faible for antihero types like Joe Pitt.

message 31: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Goth girl Abby Normal in Michael Moores,"You Suck" and "Blood Sucking Fiends" is the coolest Goth girl on planet.

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Well how cool Jinnifer, and what kind of vampire books do you like. Or rather what books have you read. Or movies do you like. You gottah read Southern Vampire Mysteries, by Charlaine Harris. Or Google up Carmilla online and read it. Yeah I know I am always pimpin off Carmilla. LOL but hey it's good!

message 34: by Jennifer (last edited Jul 04, 2009 08:10AM) (new)

Jennifer I have read charlaine Harris and I LOVE it! I'm obessed with the show as well. Of course I've read the twilight saga, I even have a signed copy! I've also read the first 4 house of night books, and the first 3 vampire academy books. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of number 4! But, nothing can compare to the original, Dracula!

message 35: by Cary (last edited Jan 04, 2013 06:49AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Carmilla compares to Dracula very well. Carmilla was written by Sheridan Le Fanu 20 years before Braum Stoker wrote Dracula. They are both from Dublin,Ireland. Many of the ideas for Dracula came from Carmilla. The fact that the vampire is of a noble ancestry. Count Dracula, Countess Mircalla Karnstien aka Carmilla. Dracula has majic powers so does Carmilla. Her name always has to be an anagram. She is also known as Millarca. Both can walk in the daylight. Both have to return to their native earth to rest each night. Carmilla takes place in Styria. So did Stokers first draft of Dracula. Then he changed it to Transylvania. Both Carmilla and Lucy sleep walk. Dracula has Dr. Van Helsing. Carmilla has Dr. Hesselius and student of vampire lore Baron Vortenburg into whose hands the secret location of Carmillas tomb is revealed. Laura later writes a letter to Dr Hesselius the occult physician describing her expierience with Carmilla. So while Dracula is an original vampire work it was influenced by Carmilla. Carmilla is one kick ass story and in many ways every bit a good as Dracula. The difference is she is a girl vampire, and though she had boy friends in life. She chooses women victims in her Vampire life. Leading people to speculate she is a Lesbian. Carmilla is a book about the duality of human nature. The vampire story is just a vehicle for that theme. For real it is one of the cleverest and best of the vampire stories. Easily as good as Dracula. All the reallly good classic gothic vampire books have something going on underneath the vampire story. In Dracula it would seem to be that nothing is more powerful than God,Faith, and true love. For Dracula covets Mina as Johnathan harker truly loves her. I am getting a bit thick here. Read Carmila you will dig it.

Jennifer Sounds great! I will definitely check it out!

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Cool Jennifer you wont be sorry, read Carmilla. Hey Vanessa I give this group all the support I can. I make comments daily and try to get everyone I know to join this group. The thing is most people would rather kick back and watch TrueBlood than read The Southern Vampire Mysteries. I love to read. TrueBlood is great but it is not the Southern Vampire Mysteries. In some ways TrueBlood is better. Like the way TrueBlood turned Lafeyettes character from a steriotype drag queen into a real sexy dude and hustler which is what real drag queens are like. Tough and resourceful. Matter of fact if TrueBlood gets as far as Dead To The World with the Witch War and Alcades accention to packmaster of the Shreveport were pack. It will be real interested how they get all that crazy stuff adapted to TV. I hope they don't change it to much. Some parts they have made better. I just love Lafayettes character in season one. But I don't think he will be so flamboyany in season two. But you never know. Every one loves Lafayette and he is a great actor. More members commin up right away. Yesiree I will make it a top priority. One last note. I hope Jason takes that hot blonde Sarah at the Fellowship of the Sun camp, and just gets all over her,LOL. Cheers, Cary

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments Vampire Acadamy is one of those vampires in school books from the YA section of the library. I don't like those kind of kiddy books, and series books. Sole execption Sookie Stackhouse, Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. They are for adults. All the characters are like 25 or 30 mostly. Lots of sex, drugs, and violence, and wicked cruel vampires. I am Legnend is good, You Suck is good. Most of all I like single stories like Carmilla, Dracula, and short vampire stories like the ones on this site.

message 43: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 804 comments I try and get everyone I know to join this group. Vampire afficiandos are not common. Plus there is serious competition for this group because of the Sookie Stackhouse/TrueBlood group. Lots of people belong to both groups. But Sookie Stackhouse/TrueBlood is so way more populuar than Twilight, or Vampire Academy, or Kissing Coffins which are all kiddy books, and people are loosing interest in them. I have a friend who used to belong to this group and left. Why? She said it was nothing but a bunch of kids. Well I think she was wrong. I am 53 and I like this group and have been a member for awhile. No one ever wants to talk about Carmilla or Dracula, or Sookie Stackhouse. So maybe this is a kiddy group. Thats why they started a Sookie Stackhouse group. People not in hightschool throw up when they read stuff like Kissing Coffins. Kissing Coffins is so ill, LOL. So for this group to evolve it needs more people reading adult vampire books.
