Heather (pheather) Did you have a favorite? Or a character that you disliked? Why?

Shayne | 49 comments Colonel Brandon. A tragic back story, passion with no real hope of having it requited, unselfish love and a happy ending. Magic!

message 3: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Hickman (bkread2) | 32 comments I liked Brandon myself as well. He was so noble, secure in himself and his knowledge. I feel a bit sorry for his a bit as well for his hard life in the area of love and the discounted feelings from his own family.

NOW on the other hand my least favorite is Mrs. Henry Dashwood, their mother. To me she was a frivilous and child-like woman. She had no sense or sensibility. It was her lack of control and temperment that allowed her daughters uncontrolled behaviors that brought about their misery. She let her girls to be wild and unlady-like in allowing them freedoms with so-called gentlemen. She allowed them to be alone, which we all know is not truly acceptable. She never acted liked a caring mother in setting limits. She allowed Marianne to go free and act like a complete tart with her blessing. In part as a second wife she was not married for her money or intelligence but for her companionship only. Sense is something that she passed unto her children, well the lack thereof. Only Elinor had any true sense.

Candice (cupofcoffee) | 1 comments I Liked Colonel Brandon and Marianne. Because I look just like them... Devoted to death to people I love. Even when there's no hope.

message 5: by LeOta (new)

LeOta (berrylota) | 26 comments Mrs. Jennings. She was too funny.

message 6: by Lulliannie (new)

Lulliannie (lullisbooks) I agree LeOta, Mrs. Jennings had me cracking up a lot of the time. I really hated Edward though. In the beginning he was too shy, then he had that whole scandal, and when he proposed, I didn't have enough time to get used to his better side. If you ask me, the real hero of the book is Colonel Brandon.

Michaela Wood | 49 comments Mrs. Jennings! She is my pinnacle of womanhood.

Kathryn | 98 comments I think Col. Brandon, too.

Ann | 69 comments I like a lot of the characters - but yes, Col. Brandon is very special and holds a dear place in my heart.:)

message 12: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (printed_garden) I liked Col. Brandon. I felt connected to him in a way. I know what it is like to be passed over because of differences and a quiet personality.

message 13: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) My favourite character is Elinor. I guess I identify with her in some way. While you really see openly how Marianne felt about Willoughby's absence and such, Elinor really kept things under wraps and continued moving forward which I thought that was quite admirable given their entire situation.

message 14: by Badlydone (new)

Badlydone Mine is Elinor too. She is so sensible and level-headed in spite of all the high emotions around her (Marianne and Mrs. Dashwood). Her sense is what carries them all through difficult situations. As for the character I dislike, I guess it has to be Fanny Dashwood - so petty and selfish.

message 15: by Hope (new)

Hope | 35 comments At first, my favorite character was Marianne because I believed myself to be much like her, but I discovered that there are many differences in us. I know have trouble deciding who is my favorite but I still enjoy Marianne's dramatics. I did not like how she treated Colonel Brandon oppposed to Willoughby. I would hope that I am like her in one thing. I hope that even if I find love and I am not able to marry him for many different reasons, that I will find someone to make me happy and that I will love. I believe that Colonel Brandon is a wonderful character and much more deserving of someone to make him happy than Willoughby. It is touching how they had similar situations. They weren't terribly similar, but I admire them both for fighting through it. I also loved their mother. She was very thoughtful and caring. I only say this in comparison to Mrs. Bennett, though. I also like Elinor and how she is able to be calm and collect most of the time. I love them all, I can hardly pick a favorite.
