1. monthly and bonus challenges announcements (specific questions may be asked on the challenges within the monthly thread)
2. your own challenge thread, if you wish to create one
3. monthly progress report threads

Hey Karen. Have you ever made a database of names so that people can just click on their name and go to their ROAR challenge folder without having to look for it? You can do it with HTML. I could set it up for everyone. It is mostly a copy and paste exercise. Here is what mine would look like.

I knew you would be able to do it, Karen. You are a whiz. Another of my groups did this, and it worked so great. Thanks for the list, glad my idea was worth doing.

message 5: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments Oooooo I like it :0)
Great Idea Lyn, and great job Karen :0)
That was a heck of a lot faster

message 6: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 1017 comments Nice idea, Lyn! I'll definitely use that link as we go along.

message 7: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 192 comments Thanks, I love when groups do this! Makes things easier. I actually have a list where I keep all my links and find it sooo much faster than scrolling through threads :)

message 8: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (lmsindel) I want to join the challenge. I know I won't finish or win but I want to see how far I get. Being a mod has its responsibilities you know. LOL

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
That's Okay, Lynne. You can flunk with me, lol.

message 10: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments Hey I'm right there with you, just for once I'd like to finish one ;0p

message 11: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 192 comments I don't see this is a fail or pass challenge, simply as pick-a-shelf in extreme mode, lol. An opportunity to read from multiple shelves in a month, and explore different genres. Doesn't sound too stressful, right? ;) I'm definitely not aiming to complete 25 books each month, that's just crazy talk (for me)!

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Yea, let's not go into stress mode here... so the challenge is absolutely HUGE and I know, there's no way I'd be able to read that much but it is a Challenge, you can pick and choose which challenges you wanna do, if you don't wanna do the whole thing :) The aim of the challenge, go as big and wide as you possibly can (so try to pick ones that you usually wouldn't go for?) and we're here to support you too!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
No worries, not stressing here. :) I was just joking with Lynne about how much I love the challenges, but how little I seem to get done on them, lol. It doesn't keep me from joining, at least. I think I am challenge challenged. :P

message 14: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
I'm with you there, Lyn - I have to restrain myself physically from joining many many other challenges - as it is, I've got about 5-7 going through 2011 and I'd probably wouldn't be able to resist to join some other ones also which lasts few weeks in the year :p

message 15: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 192 comments Oh, I'm a sucker for challenges! I resisted for the longest time, but after my first one, it spiraled from there. I think I've got about 10 ongoing ones right now, and I know I've definitely read more since joining them :)

message 16: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (lmsindel) The part I have the most fun with is trying to meet as many of the sub-challenges as I can with a single book so that I can get as many points as possible in a "do-able" amount of books per month.

Maybe my challenge should be to try and increase my total points per month for each month I participate.

Um Lynne, you are on the list

ps: it's alphabetical ;)

Christina's Book Chronicles (christinasbookchronicles) | 251 comments Hey Karen

I just finished the mini SAT in 4 books. Is that 50 points...or 50 points for completing and 50 bonus points for less than 5? I think someone asked that at some point and I can't seem to find the answer :-/

btw, I love the easy access links to our pages :)

message 20: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Good work, Christina!

And yes, it's 50 points for completing PLUS 50 points for completing with less than 5 books!

And thanks to Lyn for suggesting to set up easy access :)

message 21: by Christina's Book (new)

Christina's Book Chronicles (christinasbookchronicles) | 251 comments Nice! Thanks :) and thank you Lyn ;)

message 24: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 9 comments Hi
I want to do the ROAR challenge but I'm not sure if I have to officially say that. I kind of quietly did the 2010 challenge but didn't report because I didn't join the group until August or so.
I have been kind of hanging back the same way about the ROAR but I noticed that people have their own threads with complicated layouts for how they report. Uh. So... do I just start my own thread for this?
(Sorry, I'm sure this has been said several times, but I didn't see or understand it, I guess)

message 25: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Hey Rachel. Please do join us. You don't have to create your own thread (only if you want to) - u can keep track of your reading elsewhere, it's fine. Let me know if you have any particular Qs in the challenges :)

message 26: by Lahni (new)

Lahni | 660 comments Rachel, I don't think we officially report until the end of the month and a folder will be made for us to report in. At least that is my understanding.

message 27: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments Correct Lahni, and Welcome Rachel :0)
It's all about just having some fun and challenging yourself.

message 28: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 66 comments I wasn't sure if I should ask here or on the other thread so feel free to move this as you feel the need.

Will there be a list showing where everyone is at the end of every month, or do we just need to check everyone's personal thread?

Thanks!

message 29: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
There will be a reporting thread which I'll start at end of month (monthly reporting) so that's next week for January ;)

message 30: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 66 comments Thanks Karen!

message 40: by Christina's Book (new)

Christina's Book Chronicles (christinasbookchronicles) | 251 comments Question... Can we get still get credit for the mid-monthly challenge if we don't finish it that same month?

ex. Can we claim January's mid-monthly (black cover) challenge if we finish the book in February?

message 41: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Christina, the condition of the mid-monthly challenge was that you would have either in the middle of reading the book or started reading the book in the 7 days that they were open for the 'taking' but you can finish reading anytime (according to your pace)

message 42: by Christina's Book (new)

Christina's Book Chronicles (christinasbookchronicles) | 251 comments Ok. But should I count the points now or when I finish?

message 43: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
For this one, you can count it now
