Whatever works best for you all...I'll probably end up a tad behind you all since I'm only 1/2 way thru The Rose of Sebastopol and I wanted to read (or at least laugh over) Vixen, too.

And the book is at home, of course.
AAAAGHH...haven't read Sebastopol myself, should have read it with you! How is it Michele?

Oh gosh, Carey, it is FABULOUS. Helps to have a good knowledge of the Crimean War first, so imperative to read Drummond before this one!

Michele, I will have to read that one. Agree about Drummond, she gives a back solid back ground for it.
Jill, I have just a few pages to finish up with the current read and then I'll dig in. It's now about 5AM Pacific time Friday. Not much going on today outside of a jaunt to the gym assuming the icy conditions improve. Everything cleared up so well until I got to Kent. None of the ice melted off the shady areas and it's still slicker than snot in places, including the parking lots that I prefer not to fall in and break something.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

I gave a brief start, but the North and South DVD showed up at the library. I'm getting distracted oggling Patrick Swayze at the moment.
Happy new year to all of you.
Happy new year to all of you.
Haven't gotten beyond p. 25 but only because the reference to "New Holland" sidetracked myself and husband-unit. Off we went to google and have been looking at maps with the exploration routes....fascinating.
Also wondering if perhaps Jill could smuggle me a real Tasmanian Devil when she visits......pleeeeeaaaase?

Aaah, he's a cutie. I should make some progress this afternoon.
Happy new year to you all as well. Looks like everyone is staying home today. I can't recall seeing Federal Way so barren of cars and people.

ok, I'll settle for a wallaby....I've always wanted one. Your post reminded me that I have indeed heard about the disease of the Devils....an article or something I read. But this was a while ago and it seems a shame they haven't found the answer yet.
I'm past page 100 and the only word that comes to mind to describe it is "serene." Interesting stuff.

OK, you two are encouraging me. It still hasn't grabbed me, but I do admit to distractions from the Dark Shadows DVD's I've just started.
Well I never said I'd been "grabbed," lol. If my television hadn't been hijacked by the Rose Bowl, I've got some dvd's that would be calling out to me. As it is, I've got a library copy of Dennis Lehane's "Sacred" sitting here calling out to me. Thus far, I've been strong, but I can't guarantee how long that will last.

I Am the Chosen King and the CW Gortner books have been beckoning.
Jill, Dark Shadows was a soap opera that ran in the late 60's and early 70's in the US and has been in repeats off and on on the Sci-Fi Channel. Vampires, ghosts, werewolves, paralell times, and one of the most delightfully evil villanesses ever, Angelique the witch. Campy as hell, but still good after all these years.
Tim Burton is making a Dark Shadows movie this year.
Here's one of many sites to give you more info. You can also go to Youtube and watch to your heart's content.

Yes, Chosen King and the new Gortner are sitting here, too. Don't you dare pick one of those up without telling me first....I'll join in when you do.

Well I've snuck a few pages of both but I can withstand it. I have read Harold after all.
Jill, New Year's day is a holiday, although a lot more businesses are open than on say Christmas or Thanksgiving. I was grumbling because Trader Joes was closed and I was in the neighborhood after all and needed a few groceries. Grumble.
I think Johnny Depp is supposed to play the lead, Barnabas the vampire. I'm not sure where in the several years the show ran they'll pick up the story.
The clothes and hair from this old show are hysterical. One of the main female leads, Carolyn, has this blonde blonde do with major flip out action at the ends. She went wild for a few episodes and hooked up with Buzz the bad-biker dude. ROFL, I was howling.

I'm home sick, so I have plenty of reading time. Of course, being sick coincided with my 8 days off, so I feel like I've squandered a perfectly good set of time off. Oh well.
Of course, my time off had nothing to do with New Years, since airlines have this bad habit of flying every day of the year. boo.

At least you have books...
Although be careful. If you're cooped up long enough even the ones you want to read can start flying.

If I make it to Part II before everyone else, I reward myself with a peek at the Lehane novel. :P

If it hadn't been for ogling Patrick Swayze yesterday I'd be way past that. Or my floors would be cleaner :p

Still going slowly, on page 67 but I'm hoping it will pick up now. BTW, the author is a male, I have the hardcover and there's a large photo of him on the back.

It does pick up a bit, imo. Author being male explains more to me, tho.

Sure explains the one sex scene I just went through. Ick. What it is about male authors and their sex scenes that doesn't usually appeal to us female readers?
ETA, I did find a brief bio on my jacket and put it on Coleman's author page. It appears he's written several NF, including two on Admiral Nelson.

Jill, good question about pawpaws. If they are I would assume in the deep south and I've never been there.
Pawpaws are fruit? They're not only cartoon characters? :P

I think they were on in the 80s. From what I recall, it wouldn't fly today in PC World since they're Indian teddy bears.
Same here, except they don't put Bugs Bunny on TV anymore. :( I haven't watched cartoons since Tiny Toons & Animaniacs anyway.

You do not want to know how long it has been for me. Just as well, TV cuts into reading time :)

Which is why I don't subscribe to a big satellite package. I'm content with the monthly freeviews and it's a rare month when there's a channel that's actually interesting. This month...the Encore stations! Lots of Westerns, yay! So I won't be getting as much read in the next few weeks because I'll be too busy watching Gunsmoke, Lawman, Have Gun Will Travel, Wagon Train and The Virginian. Somehow I'll survive. ;-)
The damndest thing for me is that even though the enhanced cable comes with the condo, Comcast's new deal a year or so ago required this new box or you couldn't see those extra channels. I never got around to it (too busy reading) and you know what?
I. Don't. Miss. Them.
I. Don't. Miss. Them.
Yup, it's amazing how used you can get to not having something. I'm content with the freeviews, otherwise I take the channels for granted when I had them all the time.
Back to this book....how's the "guy tone" so far? I'm really thinking that "Melissa Masters" who wrote the book I'm reading now is a guy. It has that "guy" feel. The sex isn't porny, but it's almost cartoonish and the heroine is pretty badly-drawn. Well, all the characters are. So maybe it's a matter of crappy writing. :P

6:45am. I'm at work already. But I've been up since 4:30! My usual rising time.

Do you have a long commute?"
25 mins commute, but I've got 7 rabbits, an iguana and 2 exotic birds to take care of before I leave. Hay, pellets, salad and cuddle time. Always flying out the door!

Karla, the sex isn't much of anything in this book, despite the jacket description and cover. There was one scene where he threw in some squickiness that was really not necessary, but beyond that the marriage she in now (I'm half way through) is not one of true love and happy sex.
Ok, I'm playing catch up now, just starting book II....went skiing for a couple of days but am back and ready to read.
When is Jill going to be ready?
