Race With Death by Gilbert Morris is the 6th book in the Dani Ross series. Dani Ross has been in charge of her father's detective agency ever since her father had fallen ill, and then died. In the first book, Dani had hired Ben Savage who is an ex-police officer. Dani and Ben has been through several difficult cases and though them all Dani and Ben have grown closer and have learned to get along with each other. In the 6th book things begin to change. Ben takes Dani to dinner for his birthday and then they walk down a dock where an old and famous ship is docked. There Ben asks Dani to marry him. Dani isn't sure how to respond. She tells him that she can't because he isn't a believer. Ben understands and accepts her reason. A few days later Dani is contacted and is told that Eddie Prejean wants to talk to her. He is convicted of murdering a girl and is sentenced to death by the electric chair. Eddie tells her that he didn't do it. He's desperate and asks Dani to try to prove him innocent. She agrees and says that she'll try her best. But to gather enough evidence and information to backup her position and convince the judge to reverse the verdict in 10 days would be very difficult. Not only does she have this case to work on, but she has a constant reminder of Ben's proposal. While Dani is hunting down information for the case, Ben is doing his own hunting for the case and is keeping company with Sunny Sloan. Sunny had been working on a story about the petrochemical industry in Louisiana. She thinks she can help Ben get the information he needs and in return he offers her protection form someone who is trying to shut her up about what she's found out about the industry. Dani and Ben both find very important information, but Dani finds out to much and gets kidnapped because of it. She is tied p and gagged and taken to a cabin on a swamp where alligators live. She is to be left there until Eddie Prejean is executed. But Dani figures out a way to escape and floats down the swamp on a little raft she's built. Ben finds out that she is missing and finds the man who kidnapped her. The two men find her on the swamp and bring her to safety. They later drag the information out of the man who kidnapped Dani and arrest the men who actually did kill the girl. Eddie Prejean gets off of the death row and Dani finds out that Ben is now a believer. She agrees to marry him and the story ends in them preparing for the wedding.
