The 104 Book Challenge - 2011 discussion
Jennifer S. Reading LIst
Kristin, contrary to what the rest of my friends think, I did not love this book. Here is my spoiler free review:
I don't know, guys. This series isn't really doing it for me. I liked it, but something leaves me unsettled. It could be that my brain doesn't complete grasp the rules of the world or maybe I have something against Angels. I thought the writing was good and Becca Fitzpatrick strikes me as a fantastic person so I WANT to love this book as much as some of my friends did. Alas, I did not.
The more I think about it, I really do think it is my inability to understand the different levels of Angels that held me back from falling in love with this series. There is a scene towards the end of the book that explains various characters and their relationships with other characters (hey, give a girl a break. I'm trying to keep this spoiler free!) and I just couldn't follow the line. So there you have it. I didn't love this book because of my own ineptness. LOL!
If you do not enjoy cliffhanger endings, skip this book. I almost threw the CD case across my car. (To be clear, I listened to this book on audio and was driving.) If I were invested in the characters of this story I would be sitting on pins and needles waiting for book 3.
So, with all this being said I would still recommend Hush, Hush and Crescendo to people who love paranormal YA and can pay good attention. I think that was my downfall. I will be reading book 3 to see the conclusion of the story.

I agree with you. I read Hush, Hush last year after a friend practically forced everyone around her to read it. lol Well, not really, but she loves it so much (and Crescendo), that we all read it to share it with her. However, I'm pretty sure that none of us that read it really liked the book.
I'll probably read Crescendo, since I read Hush, Hush, but, like you, I don't really care what happens to the characters at this point. I was annoyed with most of them, and I really didn't like Patch, which kind of makes the tension between him and Nora dead in the water.
The things we find out about Patch didn't make me love him for being the charming bad boy, it made me dislike him.

Kristen, I have read Fallen but not Torment. I really liked the first 2/3 of Fallen and then something went bad and I really disliked the last part. Did you think Torment was better than Fallen?

Kristin, That's one of the most frustrating parts for me. I don't know why these books turn me off! As I said in my review, I really think that it is my lack of understanding all the angel "rules" and associations. One of my favorite authors (JR Ward) has an angel series and it's taking me forever to read the latest book in that series, too. I must have something against angels. It's so weird!

I'm in the middle of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series right now and I love it!!! She does a great job of explaining her world and what's going on. Have you read these books yet? City of Bones is the first one.
I LOVE the Mortal Instruments! Can't wait to hear what you have to say as you progress in the books. Clockwork Angel (the first book in her Infernal Devices series) is next on my TBR pile. I adore Cassandra Clare.

Nanci, I haven't read the Wicked Lovely series. I did buy the first book last fall but it hasn't made it to the top of my TBR pile. I've heard good things about them from other people, too. I'm sure it will make it on my list of reads in 2011. Have you read the entire series?

5. The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden

I read this as a part of a third grade reading group I lead. And, yes, I'm counting it in my challenge. Mostly so the count in my reading list is tied with my 10 year old daughter! LOL!
