Book # 2
1/10/2011:
American Psycho
by Bret Easton Ellis
-416 pages (paperback)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Definitely added to the list of my all time favorite books.

Book # 3
1/14/2011:
Everything is Illuminated
by Jonathan Safran Foer
-288 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Excellent, charming story.

Book # 4
1/15/2011:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
by Hunter S. Thompson
-204 pages (paperback)
-3 stars
-Other notes: Very good.

Book # 5
1/16/2011:
The Ayatollah Begs to Differ: The Paradox of Modern Iran
by Hooman Majd
-252 pages (hardcover)
-1 star
-Other notes: To avoid sounding harsh, I'll just say that it was more filled with facts than an actual storyline. Therefore, pretty difficult to get through.

Book # 6
1/18/2011:
Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1)
by Charlaine Harris
-292 pages (paperback)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Its hard to not imagine the characters as their TV counterparts, but other than that, it was hard to put down. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

Book # 7
1/19/2011:
Pigtopia
by Kitty Fitzgerald
-256 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: A quick read, sad story, and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone.

Book # 8
1/20/2011:
Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander #1)
by Karen Marie Moning
-375 pages (paperback)
-2 stars
-Other notes: It was ok. I dislike romance novels quite a bit, but it was lent to me by a friend and recommended, so I decided to give it a try. As much as the characters annoy me, and the mushiness makes me gag, I'll try and read the rest of the series.

Book # 9
Bonus Book # 1
1/21/2011:
But Is It Art?: An Introduction to Art Theory
by Cynthia A. Freeland
-256 pages (paperback)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Very interesting (if you're into art, of course).

Book # 10
Bonus Book # 2
1/22/2011:
The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1)
by Michael Scott
-280 pages (ebook)
-1 star
-Other notes: Really bad, not planning on reading anything else from the series.

Book # 11
Bonus Book # 3
1/23/2011:
The Healer's Apprentice
by Melanie Dickerson
-255 pages (ebook)
-3 stars
-Other notes: Not bad. Cute little story, kind of predictable, but not bad enough to make me want to gouge my eyes out, like most YA books make me feel like doing.

Book # 12
Bonus Book # 4
1/25/2011:
The Help
by Kathryn Stockett
-416 pages (ebook)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Honestly the best book I've read in a long time. Couldn't put it down. Added to favorites shelf.

Book # 13
Bonus Book # 5
1/27/2011:
The Year of Fog
by Michelle Richmond
-397 pages (paperback)
-3 stars
-Other notes: I'm 50/50 on whether I really like this or not. Half the book I wanted to slap the main character around a little so she'd wake up and smell the coffee and stop making so many damn references to her childhood (I understand its for background info but ever other paragraph? Really?) and half of me believed she was making the right decision. I don't know. I wouldn't really recommend it.

Book # 14
Bonus Book # 6
1/29/2011:
Revolution
by Jennifer Donnelly
-409 pages (ebook)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Great book, check review.

Bonus books read: 5
Total pages: 4,320 pages
Lowest rating: 1 star (two books)

Book # 15
2/2/2011:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
(Flavia de Luce # 1)
by Alan Bradley
-374 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Brilliant book. Added to favorites, check review.

Book # 16
2/3/2011:
The Prophet
by Khalil Gibran
-96 pages
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Amazing, check review. Also, I know this doesn't meet the 200 page minimum, but I'm pretty positive I'll read more than 8 books this month to make up for it.

Book # 17
2/4/2011:
Living Dead in Dallas
(Sookie Stackhouse # 2)
by Charlaine Harris
-291 pages (paperback)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Its very interesting comparing it to the TV series. I know, I know. The books came first. Well, I saw the show before I read the books. So sue me. I like the books a lot better, if that's any consolation.

Book # 10
2/3/2011:
The Prophet
by Khalil Gibran
-96 pages
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Amazing, check review. Also, I know this doesn't meet the 200 page minimum, but I'm p..."
Jen I didnt now there was a pg minimum. Is it just for this group or have you seen it for others and if so were. I need to check because if that is so some of my nook books dont count.

If you look in the topic/thread "Challenge Guidelines & Purpose" it says there's a 200 page minimum to be counted for the 8 books. And if you read 8 books 200 pages or over, you can include any books that are under 200 pages as extras. At least that's what I gathered from the conversation on that thread. I could be mistaken. Either way, I'm trying to do that anyway since I think its a good idea.

Book # 18
2/10/2011:
The Road
by Cormac McCarthy
-254 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: hauntingly great.

Book # 19
2/12/2011:
The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag
by Alan Bradley
-364 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: Not disappointing in the least. Great addition to the series. I can't wait to read the next book.

Book # 20
2/12/2011:
Spirits Rebellious
by Khalil Gibran
-120 pages (hardcover)
-3 stars
-Other notes: Enlightening.

Book # 21
2/24/2011:
The Day of the Triffids
by John Wyndham
-304 pages (hardcover)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Very good. Thought provoking. Makes me wonder how I would handle the end of the world.

Book # 22
3/9/2011:
Room
by Emma Donoghue
-321 pages (hardcover)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: very powerful book; recommended to everyone, even those who do not like to read (but if you didn't why are you on goodreads?).

Book #23
4/20/2011:
The Traitor's Wife
by Susan Higginbotham
-495 pages (paper back)
-3 stars
-Other notes: long and tedious, but ultimately worth the time. Shamefully only my second book in two, almost three months. I'm looking forward to the break from school to catch up on reading.

Book #24
4/26/2011:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
by Betty Smith
-493 pages (paperback)
-5 stars!
-Other notes: one of the best books I've read in a long time. Definitely going to be re-read many times.

Book #25
5/2011
Jane Eyre
by Charlotte Brontë
-2165 pages (ebook)
-4 stars
-Other notes: kind of difficult to get through, but ultimately worth it.

Book #26
5/23/2011:
We Need to Talk About Kevin
by Lionel Shriver
-400 pages (paperback)
-4 stars
-Other notes: I had a hard time taking a stance on this one. I will say my opinion drastically changed towards the end.

Book #28*
6/28/2011:
Garden Spells
by Sarah Addison Allen
-290 pages (ebook)
-4 stars
-Other notes: I wasn't expecting this to be great. I'm not into cutesy magic books, nor romance stories. But I was pleasantly surprised. Its quite short, but its worth it.
*Book #27 was a re-read of 1984.

Book #29
7/6/2011:
Dracula
by Bram Stoker
-433 pages (ebook)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Took a little while to get through but worth it.

Book #30
7/13/2011:
Hundred Secret Senses
by Amy Tan
-416 pages (paperback)
-3 stars
-Other notes: Tan is a favorite author of mine, and while I admit that she likes to write about Chinese immigrants in San Francisco (or there-a-bouts), I think her stories have completely different themes and moods. This one was intriguing. I didn't think I was going to like it. Olivia's sister, Kwan, has "yin-eyes"; she sees the dead. I thought I wasn't going to like the superstitious feeling the book began to give off. Olivia starts believing everything Kwan says, and in the end, its kind of ridiculous. But I guess its a cute ending for people who believe in that sort of thing. I liked the story, the conflict, the sadness.

Book #31
7/14/2011:
Art of War
by Sun Tzu
-171 pages (ebook)
-4 stars
-Other notes: I'll have to go back and properly review this; there were many memorable/great quotes.

7/16/2011:
Black Girl/White Girl
by Joyce Carol Oates
-272 pages (paperback)
-5 stars
-Other notes: Truly fascinating. Couldn't put it down.

Book #33
7/21/2011:
Sophie's World
by Jostein Gaarder
-507 pages (paperback)
-5 stars
-Other notes: I honestly didn't think I was going to like this one. I was proved very very wrong. Read it.

Book #34
7/22/2011:
The Iliad
by Homer
-1,652 pages (ebook)
-4 stars
-Other notes: I wish I'd read this in high school.

-5 stars
-Other notes: Such an amazing man and poet. I plan on reading this many many more times.

Book #36
7/27/2011:
The Odyssey
by Homer
-1,226 pages (ebook)

Book # 1
1/4/2011:
The Translator: A Tribesman's Memoir of Darfur
by Daoud Hari
-224 pages (hardcover)
-4 stars
-Other notes: Beautiful, tragic, heartbreaking (even though I never cry for books/movies/others things). Definitely recommended for anyone, especially since its sheds light on Darfur, a tragedy that not many people know about, much less can place on map.
