The idea is that during some great war, a wizard put a curse on the people, so half, the darkborn, cannot go in the light, or they burn up, and the other half, lightborn, cannot leave light, or they slowly die. There's also a 'wasteland' where weird unknown creatures live and very few people dare to explore there. If someone gets too close to the border of the wasteland, they'll start to feel its pull, and they'll be dangerously drawn to it.

"For the Darkborn, sunlight kills. For the Lightborn, darkness is fatal. Living under a centuries-old curse, the Darkborn and the Lightborn share the city of Minhorne, coexisting in an uneasy equilibrium but never interacting - until a Darkborn physician finds a pregnant fugitive on his doorstep..."
