I'm Kevin, 49, and Retired on Health Grounds, Like Carrie I'm a big Harry Potter fan, I'll read almost anything, and I'm rushing to read all the books I can before my eyesight fails, Favaourite authors at the moment are Vicki Tyley, Lee Weeks and Alexander Dumas, I'm very active Mobileread, and I LOVE my Kindle 3,

I'm Ta-Mela and I work in the Maritime industry. I am an avid reader and a blogger on natural hair and skin care. My favorite genre is fantasy but I like a little Sci-fi, too (though I read almost anything). My favorite series are Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, Witch World by Andre Norton, almost anything by Mercedes Lackey, and The Belgariad by David Eddings.

I'm Lauren and I too am a Harry Potter fan. I have just received my Ph.D, which is on the philosophy of evil in Harry Potter. Basically, I wrote on the baddies because they were mostly ignored in the literature and I, for one, think that bad guys are more interesting.
My favorite authors (right now) are Tess Gerritsen, Lisa Gardner, Alex Kava and Kay Hooper (as you can see I'm a thriller and mysteries person)but I love children's lit and the classics as well.

Kevin, hopefully that will be far into the future. :)
Ta-Mela, I would love to read some of your blogs on nature care products. I am into herbalism and make natural remedies for pets (and my family and friends), so I am very conscious of what we use here. Thankfully, natural care products are becoming more popular and hence easier to find (although not yet mainstream).
Hi! I'm Christa, CWatkinsNash on MobileRead. I read a lot of horror, romance (prefer historical and paranormal), but I don't limit myself too much - I'll give most things a shot if they look interesting. I'm developing a new love for dystopian/PA fiction that I look forward to exploring this year. I also read non-fiction but usually in measured doses.
My favorite authors at the moment are Stephen King, Anne Rice (though I haven't liked much of her more recent work), Hannah Howell, and others.
I live in Nashville, TN. No kids, but I have a dog that I adore and a roommate who is my best friend. I'm currently helping him run his electrical contracting business. I've previously worked in the music, film, and indie mag publishing worlds.

I'm 47, married for 30 years, married daughters 29 & 25 and single sons 22 & 18. I have two grandsons 2yr and 21 months. I babysit the younger one during they week.
I work from home as an independant transcriptionist for quite a few different companies. When I get tired of typing, I browse the internet forums.
My favorite genres are true crime, mystery, detective novels, and suspense. In between the crazy books I read Amish fiction - the complete opposite of my norm - just to get the funk out of my head. I will read just about anything else too and love getting all the free publisher promos on my Kindle. I have quite the backlog of TBR.

I read a lot of fantasy, mostly epic fantasy. My favourite authors are Robin Hobb, Brent Weeks, Peter Brett and Trudi Canavan.

Kevin, hopefully that will be far into the future. :)

My website is www.locksandknots.wordpress.com Tell me what you think (and feel free to redline, just let me know what pops up)!

I'm Rumpelteazer over at the MR forum. I'm 30 and live in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I love horror, both in books and movies, but I'm also very partial to mysteries and also a lot of YA fiction.

I'm pretty omnivorous in my reading habits, though it does seem that I've been reading a lot of SF/Fantasy the past couple of months.
I've actually been a member of Goodreads for over 3 years, but never seem to make any use of it. I list everything I read on LibraryThing.

I've never heard of paranormal romance (mainly because I rarely read romances, I'm sure) but it sounds interesting. Would appreciate a suggestion or two.

I put together my "favorite 10 books I read in 2010" a week or so ago, and all but one of the books was either horror or dark-but-not-horror (like noir or dealing with dark themes), so I guess that's what I like. :)

I'm a 37 year old, Stay At Home Mom of 3/School Volunteer. I've loved reading for as long as I can remember, although I have allowed myself to be distracted by other hobbies over the years.
I do not have a favorite author, but my favorite genres are fantasy and then scifi.
Overall, I am a sucker for happy endings.

I'll take a look at my lists and books and come up with a few suggestions and message them to you soon. :)

I'm middle-aged (don't make me say it! That 5-O was a blow) and live on the New Hampshire seacoast, but as a New York native I have retained my loyalty to the Yankees here in Red Sox Nation.
What do I like? Off the top of my head, almost anything that has to do with 20th century Britain. Which doesn't make me an Anglophile, as my ancestors were Irish. World War I. Travel. Mysteries. I read more non-fiction than fiction and I maintain a well-thumbed shelf of my favorite YA (that is, from my YA years) books.

Thanks Christa! :)

I live in Los Angeles pretty much smack dab in the middle between Downtown LA and The Rose Bowl and Parade. I'll read just about anything as long as it piques my interest but I've noticed I'm more comfortable reading mysteries and true crime/biographies. I was looking for a book challenge and liked minded people who shared my interest in reading and I think I've found it here with all of you.
thanks and take care,
Ralph

I live in New Zealand, in my mid 40's with two kids. I love reading and I have to admit I am addicted to my kobo - I find the "buy now" button a bit too easy to push! My favourite author is Alexander McCall Smith - although he is VERY difficult to source in ebook format in NZ. I also like classics and this helps my bank balance! Looking forward to being involved in this group this year.

I love SciFi, Mystery and Thrillers, but will read almost anything. I know I cannot walk into a second-hand book store without getting several books (I have done it too many times before). Looking forward to seeing how many books I actually read in a year.
Ken

Have you ever read Octavia Butler? Most of her work was dystopic. Once of my favorites is Parable of the Sower.

She's great, if a little scary sometimes. I finished the Parable series but gave me goosebumps - so realistic

Butler's work isn't that type of scary; it's the "this makes too much sense" type of scary. She does a great job laying her foundation; a lot of her work is very realistic.

I am Alma, Kiya at MR. I love fantasy, sf, mysteries (cozy mysteries and British mostly), romances (regency, paranormal, suspense). Although, I would read anything that seams interesting. Last year I discovered urban fantasy thanks to MR. I find that I like them very much, but not those with vampires. The only book with vampires I liked so far is Sunshine by Robin McKinley.
I like this idea of challenge so I can see how many books I'll read this year.
Happy reading to everybody.

I just started reading an Urban Fantasy mystery: The Man With the Golden Torc. It's gotten very good reviews.

My board name is GA Russell, and everyone on the internet calls me GA.
I have lived in the Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, area since 2002. I grew up in New Orleans, which is one of the greatest places in the world to visit if the weather is nice and you like good food.
My avatar is the cover of one of my favorite albums since my junior year of high school, Soul Message by Groove Holmes. So no, I'm not a short, fat black man.
I read a lot of GK Chesterton, Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler in 2010. For 2011 I expect to read more religious material as well as more GKC. And maybe this will be the year that I finally get around to reading The Brothers Karamazov.
Unlike many MR members, I have no issues about buying and reading paper books. However, my jetBook Lite paid for itself in only three months by my reading free downloads from the MR library as well as some of the 100 books that came with the device. I expect that I will be reading many more free books this year.

You're welcome. To be honest, I decided not to start that book fin favor of something else. I want to finish The Lies of Locke Lamora first. :)

I'm Kuraiya on MR and I'm a newbie in the ebook scene, I think I started reading on novels on my laptop seriously about six months ago, more or less. I'm currently waiting for my K3 to arrive and I feel like a kid on Christmas' Eve.
I'm from Venezuela by the way, so I apologize in advance for any spelling/grammatical mistakes on my comments. I lean towards SF, horror and fantasy, I'm a bit of a vampire/werewolf/zombie nut. Medical/scientifical thrillers also strike my fancy.
My teenage years were accompanied by Asimov, King, Koontz and others. V.C. Andrews gave me my gothic romance fix. Recently, I discovered Anne McCaffrey's works which I enjoyed pretty much.
Right now I'm reading Sense and Sensibility, as part of my effort to read more classics and my TBR list is growing exponentially day by day.

I forgot to tell you, it was great! I've already bought book 2. :-)

I haven't read as much romance as I could have, at least without counting a lot of fanfics that I've read from my favorite anime series. Harlequin sounds familiar though, maybe I have read some of those romances and I simply don't remember.

I am an avid reader of both paperback and electronic books. I grew up in a house that empasized reading.
I started with SF as a young pre-teen and have since branched out to nearly everything. I go through phases. I am currently big into SF, horror and paranormal romance. Just finished reading Necromancer by Brian Lumley.

People don't read novels from where I am and the popular ones are not available in the library (it is considered time wasting). But I have been raiding my brothers credit card and my fathers purse for a long time (lets not forget my mother! She is real source of my income.). So, I get my dose of books now and then. At present I am waiting for 'The Son of Neptune' by Rick Riordan. In the meantime I have started Catherine Coulter FBI series and after that will be reading Physic eye mystery.

My list can be found here: HomeInMyShoes 2011 Books

Welcome to the group, Jerry! Nice to see you over here! :)

I'm Lizzie and I have always loved to read.
My favorite genre is fantasy, inclusive of paranormal, but I also read a ton of YA, history and biographies.
Huge Tolkien fan, adore Harry Potter, Spencer for Hire is a perennial favorite with Harry Dresden right behind him.
I was a huge Nook fan until it died and I got a Kindle 3. I am in love with the thing! And it is loaded up! I love that I can have a shelf on it for my annual reading challenges as well as all my favorites.
