Angie H wow another year gone. I wasn't even close to 75 books this year but it was still fun. I'm not really expecting to get 75 this year either as we should be having a little one in the house for sure in Feb, but possibly much sooner. I'll try and keep reading though in my spare time and see how close I get. Happy Reading Everyone!!

Angie H #1. Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham Of Human Bondage 2.5/5 stars.

I read most of this book in 2010, but I finished it yesterday. This was for my classic book club. It was too long... the middle was a bore.. you really had to concentrate to get through it. The main character bothered me for most of the book. BUT it had a decent beginning, and ending so thats why I gave it 2.5 stars. =)

Angie H #2. The Remnant On the Brink of Armageddon (Left Behind, #10) by Tim LaHaye The Remnant: On the Brink of Armageddon Tim LaHaye. 4/5 stars.

The 9th book in the Left Behind series. Only two more left. I wanted to have them done last year but life got in the way. Still enjoying this series. The next two books are on their way to me so I think by the end of this month I should have the series done. Yay!

#3. Your Pregnancy Week by Week by Glade Curtis Your Pregnancy Week by Week 5/5 stars.
I enjoyed this book very much. Very imformative and I liked how it was week by week not month by month like many of the books are. There are some heavy duty topics in it, and if you have a medical background it may help to understand it more.
I technically read most of this last year.. but I finished it this year so i'm counting it.=)

#4. What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff What to Expect When You're Expecting 3/5 stars.
This one was ok.. but not as good as the above one.

Wow this is a slow couple months for me... I guess that is what happenes when you have a newborn.. reading gets put aside.. I'll still try for the 75 though..

message 4: by Angie H (new)

Angie H Just for fun.. don't worry I won't count this one. =)
Night-Night, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton
What a cute little book! =)

Angie, I missed the birth of your little one. I hope everything went well! I don't even think we knew you were expecting. BIG Congrats momma!

Thanks Andrea! Yeah Jacob was due Feb 8th but we had to have an emergency c-section on Jan 21st. Then spent 2 weeks in Edmonton at the NICU. BUT everything is going good now, Praise the Lord!... just have to find time to read. =)

Angie H #5. The Other Side of the Story by Marian Keyes The Other Side of the Story-Marian Keyes 3/5 stars.
Oh I would so like to give this book 4 stars. I enjoyed MOST of the story.. just can't get passed all the swearing. I've read MANY of her books and I don't remember any of the other ones dropping the f-bomb THAT much.. this one was a little over the top.
PLUS being a married woman I have a hard time reading about people having affairs.. just can't tolerate it..
Having said all that I'm not ready to give up on Mrs Keyes quite yet. I enjoy her Irish humor! =)

Angie- I'm so happy to hear that everything is okay with Jacob! Are you finding you have less time and energy to read?

Angie H Andrea wrote: "Angie- I'm so happy to hear that everything is okay with Jacob! Are you finding you have less time and energy to read?"

well yes and no.. lol. but now that he is a little bigger I can read while feeding him.. which probably adds up to about an hour a day which isn't too bad. I like to read in the afternoon when he's sleeping, but really that is when I should be sleeping too.=)

message 10: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #6. Just Above a Whisper (Tuckers Mill Triology, #2) by Lori Wick Lori Wick 3/5 stars.
Not my favorite book by her but still a cute story. An easy read for sure which is exactly what i was in the mood for.

#7 A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) by Libba Bray -3/5 stars.
Not my usual kind of book... it was okay. I have the other two in the series but I'm not going to be jumping to read them.. I probably will get to them eventually though.

message 11: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #8. Armageddon The Cosmic Battle of the Ages (Left Behind, #11) by Tim LaHaye Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. 4/5 stars

Just as good as the rest.. just one more book and I am done the series...

I love monkeys so this book was super cute to me. =) Love all the textures! That's Not My Monkey (Touchy-Feely Board Books) by Fiona Watt

I'm sad to hear this wasn't that great. It's been in my TBR pile forever. I had several friends rave about it, but as always you never know if you'll like something.

I have this one in my TBR as well and I was wondering about it but couldn't start to read yet somehow. Sad to hear you haven't enjoyed it much.

Angie H #9 Glorious Appearing The End of Days (Left Behind, #12) by Tim LaHaye -Tim LaHaye Jerry Jenkins 4/5 stars
I'm done!yay!! took me long enough. This book was a great ending to the series.

Angie H #10 Miracles A 52-Week Devotional by Karen Kingsbury -Karen Kingsbury. 5/5 stars.

This book/devotional is extra special for me. Last year my mom bought me this because she knew I liked Karen Kingsbury not knowing what kind of an impact it was later going to have. In Dec mom put it in my stocking stuffer..
I was due with our first child Feb 8th 2011 and on Jan 5th, after many ultrasounds and test ect. we were told that our baby might not survive.. and if he/she did that babe would have many developmental difficulties. Husband and I were at a loss.. no idea what to do, knowing there was nothing WE could do. It was in God's hands. We started reading this book every night and it was amazing!! It gave us so much hope. Sometimes I think miracles just happen in the Biblical times, but after reading this book I found out that was not true. Every night we read about another miracle that God had performed.
Jan 21st Jacob was born and other than being small for gestational age ( 4lb 10oz) everything else appears normal. Praise the Lord. He gave us our little miracle.=)
My mom says that God picked out that book for us a year ago, and I couldn't agree with her more.

I have a 3 week old myself, so I, too am going a bit slower on this challenge, but am still pressing on...I thought about switching to the 50 book challenge group, but I love the people in this group so much that I'm just gonna stick with it here! Good luck with your challenge, and! Congrats on your little boy!!!

message 21: by Angie H (new)

Angie H wow its been awhile since I've updated.. okay here we go.

March Reads:

#11 On Becoming Baby Wise Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep (On Becoming. . .) by Gary Ezzo 4/5 stars. I don't agree with everything in here.. but I did find some helpful things.

#12 Secrets of the Baby Whisperer How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby by Tracy Hogg 4/5 stars.. same as above. Some of her stuff is a little out there though.. " give you baby a tour of your home as soon as they get home".. ummm ok.....

#13. Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner 4/5 stars. This book was just a fun read. I could pretty much relate to every woman's pregnancy story in some way.

#14 One Day by David Nicholls 3/4 stars. This book was a little bit of a disappointment to me. I enjoyed the idea behind the book. every chapter being the same day a year later.. kind of a " where are they now?" idea. BUT i disliked the main character... and I didn't like the ending...so that pretty much ruins a book for me.

April Reads:

#15
A Woman's Place by Lynn Austin 4/5 stars. I had never read anything by this author before. It was a nice easy, clean read. I will read more of her books.

#16 Atonement by Ian McEwan 4/5 stars. I read this for book club. I remembered watching the movie when it came out and I didn't really like it. I enjoyed the book though so maybe I will have to give the movie another chance.

#17 Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures Stories by Vincent Lam 4/5 stars. I found this book interesting. It is about Emergency room Doctors. Since I work in the hospital, and work night shifts, I found the story about the lady who came in to ER in the early morning for hiccups, quite funny.. and not far off..=)

#18 Blessed Child by Bill Bright 4/5 stars. I enjoyed this book. I'll definietly check out more of Ted Dekker's books.

#19 The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers 3/5 stars. Another book club book. I thought it was ok.. strange.. glad it was short.

#20 Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult 2/5 stars. Strike 2 for Mrs Picoult.....this one was more back to her same style.. but I just found the content in the story very disturbing. I cared more about what happend with Max then I did with Zoe.. and then towards the end I didn't care about Max anymore either...

#21 The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry 4/5 stars. another book club. cute, short, story

It was ok... I liked the idea behind the story, but disliked most of the characters. I LOVED book thief and this was nothing like it... a little disappointing..

Angie H #40. Waiter Rant Thanks for the Tip-Confessions of a Cynical Waiter by Steve Dublanica 3/5 stars. I used to waitress ( not at a high end restaurant) but I could still relate to many of the things in here. funny look at the "front of the house" although again could have done without all the swearing...
#41 Deal Breaker (Myron Bolitar, #1) by Harlan Coben 4/5. my first Coben book. I really enjoyed this one, which is a surprise because i'm not a HUGE fan of mysteries but this one grabbed me right away. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

I think I am the only person in the world (or at least in this group) who doesn't like Harlan Coben. I read a book of his, and it was a decent enough mystery, but there were just enough little things about his storytelling that I didn't like. And then I tried to read another one, thinking I shouldn't base my opinion off just one book . . . but within the first 5 pages I just found myself annoyed with his voice again.

*shrugs* To each his own.

LOL! there are a couple authors that I feel the same way about..that EVERYONE on here loves and I just don't get it. =) yup to each his own for sure! it would be crazy if we ALL liked the same books/authors!

message 36: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #42 All the Pretty Horses (Border Trilogy, #1) by Cormac McCarthy 2/5. another one for the classic book club! it was ok.. I have definitely read worse books. I think I would like to check out the movie someday...

message 37: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #43. Fools Rush In (Weddings by Bella, #1) by Janice Thompson 3/5 This was my first ebook.. and it was free. It was ok, a little cheesy, but at least it was clean. Just what I needed while I was waiting for my library books to get here. There are two more in the series and maybe someday I will get to them when I need a little "brain candy".

#44. Blueberry Muffin Murder (Hannah Swensen, #3) by Joanne Fluke 3.5/5. Cozy little mystery. I think these books are fun! I'm sure I will read more from this series.

message 38: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #45 Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner 2.5/5 I feel bad giving this only 2.5 stars but it just really wasn't that good, which was a huge disappointment for me. I have read and liked quite a few other books by Weiner, but this one just didn't cut it....oh well maybe her next one is better. I haven't given up on her quite yet....

Angie, I know just how you feel! I hate giving an author I love a bad rating, it just feels wrong...lol On the other hand I think it's important to be honest. From what I'm reading your rating is in the norm for this book!

message 40: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #46 The Yada Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson 4/5 stars. I had never read anything by this author. It was pretty good and the last 100 pages took quite the turn...I will check out the rest of this series for sure.

#47. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett 4/5 stars. awww what a sweet book. This was for my classic book club, and not a hard read at all. short and sweet!

message 41: by Karol (new)

message 43: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #48 Stuck in the Middle (Sister to Sister, #1) by Virginia Smith 3/5. another free ebook. quick read, again kind of cheesy but still entertaining.. just didn't realize it was part of a series...

message 47: by Angie H (new)

Angie H #51 The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Down (Yada Yada Prayer Group, Book 2) by Neta Jackson 4/5. Really enjoying this series. I like the fact that they aren't squeaky-clean and have real problems/struggles just like the rest of us.

#52 The Girl in the Gatehouse by Julie Klassen 4/5 stars. What a great book! If you like Historical Romance and Jane Austen then I really think you will enjoy this book! Will be checking out more books by this author.

#53 Love Finds You in Lancaster, Pennsylvania by Annalisa Daughety 4/5 stars. I have just recently heard of the " Love finds you..." series. What a sweet little story about second chances in Amish country. I will have to check out more from this series.

Angie H they are all Christian Fiction,so not sure if you are into that.. but even so you might like them. =) The Girl in the Gatehouse is very subtle..and of course the yada Yada are alot more " preachy" hence the title lol, but I enjoyed all three of them. great books!
