message 3: by Lauren (new)

Lauren i put 50 books, because i know witht the amount of things i already have planned for this year i wont beable to read more, possibly not even 50 lol.

message 4: by Lee (new)

Lee (limes03) I originally put down 50 but decided to make it slightly higher and go ahead with 60.

message 5: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I put 150. Call me an over achiever, but I did make 100 (at least) last year.

message 6: by Diana (new)

Diana I originally put 80 books, but then I realized that I read 80 in the first two semesters of 7th grade, so I changed it 150.

message 7: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I'm going to put a goal, but I can't figure out what to make it.

150 doesn't sound so ridiculous, Rae.

message 8: by Whitney :) (new)

Whitney :) (wvn1998) | 1808 comments My goal is 115. I dont read alot but Im trying to read more this year.

message 9: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Now i feel like the underachiever lol.

message 10: by Whitney :) (new)

Whitney :) (wvn1998) | 1808 comments It's fine. I plan to read all of this in the summer of 2011 but I am going to babysit every day for 9 hours a day so i dont know if i will be able to do it!!! ill try. :)

message 11: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Lol I purposefully set my goal low this year: 75 books (non-textbooks). Last year my goal was 100, and I was at 96 by Jan 31. So close!

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura Newcombe (laurakbooks) | 74 comments I set my goal for 50 books.
I wanted to set a higher goal but unfortunately reading is going to be a bit hard to juggle with study and writing this year.
Oh well...

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I had to leave it at 45. Im going to try and stay focused on school and books are distracting lol. Plus im starting a new job so ill have less reading time :(

I know what you mean.
I don't want to stop reading and I don't want it to become a task, but school is priority this year.

message 15: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I'm in the same boat as you guys, i need to focus on school because its my last year and i have important exams for the next 4-5 months :S.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I put mine at 150. That's about as much as I usually read.

Well, I was looking through some of my friends' goals and they are all like really low. some at like, 20. lolz

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments That's about a month's worth for me, if I'm on vacation.

message 19: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Same here. Maybe more.

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yeah. I go to a three-week long sleepaway camp where I'm very busy. This year, I read at least 17 books while I was there, not to mention the rest of what I read over the summer.

message 21: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments nicee! I tend to read more over the summer....lolz. That sounds like a lot of fun. What do you do there?

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Pretty much whatever you want. You take two main courses and two/three mini courses(the number changed), plus daily activities, but the options are REALLY varied. You can do mock trial, take French, make abstract sculptures with CDs and marshmallows, or play soccer. You get to choose whether you want it to be "serious" or not, but even those "serious" classes are fun.

message 23: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments nicee!! that sounds really cool!

Irene (wingdesilverii) Hannah wrote: "Has everybody seen the goodreads 2011 book challenge? If so, how many did you put for your goal? I put 100, hopefully it should be no problem (hopefully)"

I am setting my goal high at 200 books.

That sounds like something offered through a local college but it is a TON of money for only two weeks of classes like that with boarding and meals. Also the boarding is co-ed (for high school students) . I would go but it isn't worth 4,850 dollars to me for just two weeks when there are better opportunites elsewhere.

£mily (3mily991) | 1107 comments I'm aiming for 150 books. Off to the library I go....

150 is quite a challenge. I aimed for that last year but ended up short like 20 books.

message 28: by Kate (last edited Mar 05, 2012 06:56PM) (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I only put 80 as my goal. Ordinarily I would put something much higher, but I have SO MUCH school work this year, and usually a lot of my reading is during the summer, but I will be spending 4 weeks speaking nothing but French (which I don't know yet) so I won't be getting much reading in then.

I wish you luck on your 150.

message 29: by £mily (new)

£mily (3mily991) | 1107 comments Thanks! Yay I'm already six books ahead on it. Good luck on your 80!

message 30: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Wow, 4 weeks of only speaking a language you haven't learned yet? That's gonna be difficult, but I know you can do it.

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Thanks. It's really intimidating. They have a beginner level, which means that there will be certain times at the beginning where I can speak English, and I'll probably be dealing with people who are just as confused as I am.

Plus, since I can't read any English books, my mom got me the first three Harry Potters in French.

message 32: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Wow, that's pretty serious stuff! Is it a school thing this summer?

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments No, I actually chose to do it. (yes you can laugh at me) I've always wanted to learn French, but I've waited long enough that if I were to start learning now, I really wouldn't learn much in high school, and I wouldn't be able to really learn anything over the summer if the format were any different either. Immersion is supposed to be the best way to learn, because you're forced to learn a lot quicker than you would in a classroom just to survive.

But because a lot of the learning is through immersion, there are a lot of things that are completely uneducational...except for the fact that they're in French.

message 34: by Daisy (last edited Mar 10, 2012 12:13PM) (new)

Daisy (daisyiscrazy) wow! I've been wanting to learn Japanese for a while now! i only know a bit,but probably not enough to have a conversation with!
good luck with your French! :D

message 35: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Thanks.

message 36: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments No laughing here- I'm impressed! You just won't be learning like in a classroom with all the verbs and strict sets of words each chapter....

Good luck with French! And I figure summer will be my catch up time..unless I can finish my Virtual school course early and in that case I will be reading for an hour and a half a day.

message 38: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yeah, that's the goal Rae. Hopefully I'll come out of it having learned a lot without having studied much at all.

Good luck with french! I dropped it last year, but I wouldn't mind picking it up again sometime...Just not with my evil teacher and all those strict text books etc...
Let us know how it goes :)

message 40: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Thanks! It should be really fun.

In theory the submersion technique (basically forcing you to learn the language to survive by throwing you into the community of it) works best over anything.
