Kathryn (kathrynh) Do most of you still pin your projects your are going to quilt yourself? I'm making this book bag and it has me quilt the three layers before construction. I'm using fusible fleece so that will adhere to one of the fabrics and then I spray 505 Spray and Fix to the other side and then will quilt. The spray adhesive doesn't gum up the needle and for me, is much easier than pinning....

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm afraid I'm a pinner from way back. My quilting buddies make fun of me and call me queen of the pins. I use a lot when I'm piecing the tops too.

I don't actually do the quilting on most of my quilts. For those I do quilt, though, I spray baste them. During last year's remodeling project, I had Kris make a spray wall for me that's in the garage. He now has to redesign it because it's too heavy for me to get into place, but that will be part of this years' project. :-)

Sheila (sheilaj) I guess it must be the respiratory therapist in me. I try to avoid inhaling sprays of any kind, but it sure makes the job easier.

That's why I have my wall in the garage, Sheila. I hope both doors before I spray. It's well ventilated.

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments I rarely quilt for myself because I don't like my work on the big quilts, but I hope to change that this year. I have used spray baste before on smaller projects and liked it. The problem have with basting quilts in general is the space issue. I know I can reserve a table somewhere or set up tables outside, but I get lazy or the weather interfers.

It would really help if I'd proof what I'd written before I sent it. That should have said, "I have" not "I hope". Geez! LOL!

I am a big time pinner while piecing, and yes, I get teased as well, but I think I do less unsewing than they do. I'm not sure if they'd agree or not. Most of my friends are all about speed and getting the project done as quickly as possible, while I want to enjoy the process and not worry so much about how quickly I can get it done.

Sheila (sheilaj) One of my quilting buddies has a favorite motto.

"Completion beats perfection"

While I am certainly not a perfectionist, I due strive to do the best work possible. At this point in my life I don't accept any projects that require a strict completion date.

To each her own.....but I totally agree with you! LOL

I would have a hard time reading a book if it was just finished and not written well.

Quilts are probably a different matter, though. I constantly question my design designs like color and borders, but I do try to make sure my quilts are well constructed and will hold together so they will stand the test of time.

Mary (madamefifi) I'm an old-school pinner. It's just the way I was taught and I'm satisfied with the results, even if the pinning itself is time-consuming and boring.
