I made this club because I want a place where Indonesias who like to read can come together, discuss books and just share our thoughts. Not many of my friends read, but I'm sure there are many in Indonesia who does. I just don't know them. So I made this group so we all can meet online and talk about our favourite literature :)

i'd rather not say much about my book habits, since like all of you here, i know it's a complicated matter that is better explained by actually knowing each other. and that's what we're all here for right?

SO FOR GOD'S SAKE PLEASE JOIN THE GROUP MEET UP THREAD AND HELP US DECIDE A MEET UP PLACE AND EVENT, PEOPLE! :p

Sheva (kepikbadut) | 72 comments Hi everyone.. I'm a newbie in here and never drop some comments. Because it's a "Random 10" topic, which I really like, I'm tempted to write 10 things about me:

1. I love to read since I was 5 years old. My very first book is a manga, Sailormoon. I believe so. That, or Donald Duck, hehe.
2. 9 years ago, someone gives me a stack of books written by Enid Blyton. The Five, Malory Towers series, House at The Corner, The Family at Red-Roofs. Those books shaped my imagination and my interest with children books.
3. I could say I'm a movie buff.
4. My dad listens to a lot of oldies songs, and he likes The Beatles. I guess that's the reason why I adore their music, pretty much because I listen to that kinds of songs a lot.
5. One of my English tutor said that my grammar was a mess, so she told me to read more English books. Thanks to her, I love to read more English books now.
6. Currently reading China Mieville's Un Lun Dun, about a world under London, then I had an interest with Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood. I love Norwegian Wood because it is a well written story, with a lot of 60's pop songs as the background. The story is poignant and adorable, with Murakami's formula on it, which is something new for me.
7. I'm 19 years old now. I'm just a Marketing Communication student who loves artsy things, lovely books, well-executed movies, Oasis,Coldplay,The Smiths, The Beatles and John Mayer.
8. After watched Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris", I started to think that 1920s is an era where genius people lived. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc. And after watched it, I wish one day I could write a magical story like my grandpa, Woody Allen. Hehe.
9. My favorite movies are movies with beautiful story line and script, like Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. I adore these movies SO BAD. I wish I could have those scripts which has been published in paperback. :)
10. I love the atmosphere of bookstores, libraries and coffeeshops. I love the smell of unwrapped books and sleep with books, or upon them. I always feel that I'm broke every time I spend my money, more than my budget capacity, only for books. But I have no regrets after take those books to my room. I always feel happy instead. :)
10.

Sheva (kepikbadut) | 72 comments @ Riadiani and Ryan: I also don't get the idea why some people tend to be so hard to sit down and read a book, or try to like it. Books, in my opinion, are one of those beautiful things ever invented by our brains, besides movies, lamps and computers. LOL

Oon (oonisme) | 132 comments 10 Random Facts I Wouldn't Tell My Boss (or Future Girlfriend) Part I

1. I love the scent of a new book. If it is made into a parfume, I would gladly wear it to a date (imagine: Chanel no. Slaughterhouse V)

2. I love books by British author, my first encounter is "Atonement" by Ian McEwan. I actually bought it because of its cover :

and the back cover synopsis: a crime done by 13 years old girl. I wondered: what crime the girl did? how? Then I bought the book, I found out about the girl, the crime, the aftermath. And I fell in love with that book (and the girl :">)

3. Because of the "shortlisted for the booker prize 2001" on Atonement's cover, now I am a Booker Prize enthusiast. I follow it every year and still hunting for the winners (some of it good some of it not so good). Amazingly, contenders for 2011 prize are available on a special bookshelf in Kinokuniya Plaza Senayan

4. Since I already followed Booker Prize winner, why don't I follow Nobel Prize for Literature winner too?, my small, empty, don't-know-its-capability brain said. Easily persuaded, I bought Soul Mountain by Gao Xingjian. I scratched my head bald and nearly cried with frustration. I don't understand it. I nearly lighted a match to the book while muttering ashes to ashes dust to dust ashes to ashes dust to dust ashes..

5. I love hunting books, especially second hand books. I sincerely believe that buying a book is a journey, a fateful encounter. One time I was wandering Sarinah, Jakarta when I saw several groups of foreigner going into the same direction. I followed them (creepy, I know, but since I had nothing to do in the meantime and my curiosity had the better of me, I randomly followed them). I followed them until I arrived at a special section in Jakarta where many foreigners spend their nights: Jalan Jaksa, a place to drink and sing. Inside one of the cafe & karaoke, I spotted a second hand bookstore would you believe that?
And that's the story how I bought The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen

to be continued...
I have to do something for a while, brb to post part II :D

Oon (oonisme) | 132 comments 10 Random Facts I Wouldn't Tell My Boss (or Future Girlfriend) Part II

6. The name "Oon" actually came from "Soaloon", a Batak word for unbeatable. Ain't my parents cool or what :D

7. My dream is to own a bookstore, the model for it is "Shakespeare & Company" in Paris. I am currently pondering for a name, one that came up to my mind was "Cemetery of Forgotten Books", like one in the book The Shadow of the Wind

8. I also love poetry, English poetry and Indonesian poetry. Indonesian poet that I love: Joko Pinurbo & Sapardi Joko Damono. English poet that I love: William Wordsworth, Dylan Thomas & Sylvia Plath. I also write some of my own :p

9. My English speaking ability is not as well as my English reading or writing ability. I stumble for some words I wouldn't stumble if I was writing and I cannot form a meaningful sentence without some difficulty or repeating "eee.. eee... emmm". (I actually thought some perfect, sophisticated, full-of-adjective sentence in my mind, but what actually come up is usually "Me potato do you tomato?"). And it is harder when I speak to foreigner.

10. The only sport I can do and enjoy is swimming. It's hard to find an affordable, decent swimming pool in Jakarta. So, I persuade my officemate, who had an apartment in Thamrin, to let me use the apartment's swimming pool facility every Wednesday :D. In return, I'd be her additional passenger for 3 in 1 road from office to her apartment. So, it's a mutually beneficial symbiosis hahaha.

Thank you every one and sorry for the long and two part post :D

In return of you using her apartment's pool, she's driving you there?

Damn, your negotiation skill rocks!

Amanda Sastri (amandamelosa) | 8 comments 1. I love Arctic Monkeys (yes, the first fact about me!) My favorite genre is jazz, but now I'm into folk, and Arctic Monkeys is exception for 'alternative rock' genre, because my ears complain when I'm listening to 'hard' music. Well, you can check my music taste on www.last.fm/user/amandamelosa

2. Introvert. Sometime I forget how to interact with people, and when I'm on good interaction, it makes me realize how good to socialize with people. Seriously.

3. Currently working in publisher company in Indonesia, and studying in Maranatha University. I'm still living with my parents, and that's a shame.

4. Conservative-religious. And I hope this is not weird.

5. I read e-books a lot! But I don't have access and can't directly purchase book from e-book stores. I really want to, so... yeah... you can guess how I can read a lot of e-books :)

6. I love tv-series. My favorite tv-series are How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Supernatural (I'm trying... so hard to get along with this show because leviathan thing is bugging me!), and Parks and Recreations. I love Band of Brothers and Sherlock mini series.

7. I play piano and guitar.

8. I love to play story-based RPG, I made indohogwarts.co.nr in 2007. Yes, I love writing. And I want to be a script-writer.

9. My favorite director is David Fincher.

10. I want to go to Finland and watch the Europe's Sky :)

And you guys have interesting facts :)

Hahahaha... it is, if you put it that way :D Actually she had to spent Rp 10-15k for 3in1 jockey (it's kinda hard to explain if you don't live in Jakarta: some roads have a rule that every car should have 3 or more passengers inside to pass it). Now, on Wednesday, she got me for free :D

I love How I Met Your Mother too! No Criminal Minds fans?

Interesting facts and yes I also don't understand why people can't sit and enjoy a book. If only they know the things they could get from books...
