Dee (austhokie) What's a Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?
It's a group recommend a book thing - works just like a Secret Santa or Xmas Exchange, except that the gift is replaced by a book recommendation. The givee-giver pairings are assigned by a super-secret method with some randomness thrown in (depending on my creativity on any given day). So you recommend some books for whomever you get and somebody else will recommend books to you. After you're done reading your Pick-It-For-Me book, a short post with some feedback - a mini-review of sorts would be appreciated.

Please sign up by posting in this thread - Sign up period will remain open until January 30 at 8pm EST.

For this challenge, you need either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable) or friend the person pickign for you. Keeping your bookshelves up to date will also help with them making recommendations.

You'll have until February 4th to make your recommendations. Everything will be done in this thread so check it often. Also, please be sure you really want/have the time to participate. Once I pair up people, it makes it difficult to re-pair when someone decides not to participate.

Sign-up's
Dee - new or TBR
Tricia
Carolyn F
Lisa O - new or TBR
Rachel
Terri
Barbara

Carolyn F. I'm in - I love these challenges. It introduces me to knew books or pushes some in my TBR shelf up.

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) I'm in!

message 6: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) hey guys - if you could - just quickly mention in your post, do you want all new picks, or prefer something from your To-Read pile, or a combo...so that your picker has an idea

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) guess i should sign up too...lol!

i'll take either new recs or from my to-read list (I don't own any of the books on my wish-list shelf, so if you rec those, they are new books to me)

message 8: by Lisa O. (new)

Lisa O. | 77 comments I'm up for either new picks or off my to-read shelf. I'm always adding books, I think my shelf just keeps getting bigger, lol.

message 9: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) It makes it easier if picks are already on my TBR shelf; but new picks are nice too.

The whole idea of the pick it for me (at least when I suggested it a long long time ago in a diff group) was for the person picking the book to base their choices off the chosen pickee's shelves.
But the book had to be something they hadn't read or put on their to read shelves.
This way it introduces new authors and books to the pickee, thus widening their knowledge of good reads!

However, Delicious Dee can choose how to run the challenge as this is her section of the group :)

To answer, I would personally like something new, that I dont have on any of my shelves. I am always looking for new great authors :)

message 11: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) I'm planning on changing up the how to pick books each month ;)

message 12: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I agree with the TBR shelf. I try to keep mine up to date and it seems to waste (to my husband) not to read something I already have.

message 13: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 56 comments This sounds fun! I'm in!

message 14: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I'm going to give this a try. I've done it in other groups but the books chosen where horrible and not something I was interested in reading. I'm hoping with the PNR/UF element that the book(s) chosen will at least be something interesting to me.

I have a TBR own and a TBR need shelf, the book(s) can be from either shelf.

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) its just before 8pm EST and I don't think there will be anymore sign-up's - so i'm going to go ahead and close them - pairings will be posted shortly

message 16: by Dee (last edited Jan 30, 2011 05:11PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) Pairings
Dee picks for Lisa O
Tricia picks for Terri
Carolyn F picks for Dee
Lisa O picks for Tricia
Rachel picks for Barbara
Terri picks for Rachel
Barbara picks for Carolyn F

Rules
Since this is the first time running this, we'll keep it simple.
**Please pick 2 books for your partner, they can be either from their TBR or new to them picks.
**You are only obligated to read one book during the month.
**At least one of these should be a PNR/UF book (in keeping with the group).
**Please post your recommendations, no later than Febuary 2.
**Please post your picks in this thread for tracking purposes
**Once you have finished the book, come back here and let us know what you thought about it! Is it a series you'll continue, or did you decide it wasn't for you. Inquiring minds (and those of us always looking to add to our TBR's are interested

Hey
Here are my 2 picks for you, one is from your TBR and the other is a new to you that I enjoyed! Hopefully you'll like one of them.

From your TBR - Some Girls Bite - Chloe Neill - this is probably one of my fav. UF series right now, i'm waiting impatiently for book 4 to be released in March/April - Merrit is a kick-ass heroine and Ethan is just delicious!

New to You
Angel Warriors - Stephani Hecht - this was recommended to me over on Amazon and I really ended up enjoying it - Fallen Angels who are addicted to Redwings Ice Hockey...it made me laugh - she is an autobuy author for me for some of her other series

Ok here are my two picks for Terri :D I chose to choose one that you didnt have on any of your shelves, as to give you a new author to love /grins, and I also chose one you have on your shelves to read :D

From your TBR: Skinwalker - Faith Hunter. I had the pleasure of reviewing this entire series thus far and it's one of my favorite UF series. The third one just came out this month.
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter

New to you: Sins of the Heart - Eve Silver. This is another one that I discovered through reviewing and its one of the best PR stories I have read to date. I am patiently waiting for book #4 to come out so I can find out what happens :D
Sins of the Heart (Otherkin trilogy, #1) by Eve Silver

Both I have read myself and LOVED.

Lisa O. | 77 comments Okay Tricia, here are my picks for you:

From your TBR: Slave to Sensationby Nalini Singh. This is my favorite PNR series (although I haven't read too many), I've read all 9 books so far and I'm anxiously awaiting number 10!

New to you: Stormwalker by Allyson James. This is an interesting series that I really like, I did like the second in the series better than the first, but both are good books. I had a hard time finding something I've read that's not already on your TBR, so hopefully you like it! Oh, and Mick is seriously hot! ;)

Ooooh good choices! I am going to read Stormwalker :D I will pick it up when I get home :D
I love finding new authors! Thanks!

message 21: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Dee - I've picked 2 picks from your TBR shelves.

1. Dead Until Dark - this is such a great series - this got me to start reading paranormal books and also introduced me to Goodreads through Charlaine Harris' comments section.

2. Halfway to the Grave - another great series. It seems like everyone has a crush on Bones after reading it.

message 22: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) Thanks Carolyn - I think i'm going to try Halfway to the Grave - I keep getting told to read it, but i'm scared all the hype will let me down.

message 25: by Barbara ★ (last edited Feb 04, 2011 03:59PM) (new)

Barbara ★ Carolyn F
I apologize for the delay but I totally forgot about this event. I choose two books from your TBR each is the first book in a new to you series. I've given both a 5 star rating.

Tempt Me with Darkness (Doomsday Brethren) by Shayla Black by Shayla Black
Charming the Highlander (Highlander, #1) by Janet Chapman by Janet Chapman

message 26: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) Carolyn - I started listening to Dead Until Dark the other day because I picked the audiobook up at audibles recent 1st in series sale - have to say, i've already gotten further in the audiobook than I did when I tried to read it - so it might just be one of those series for me that I listen to instead of read

message 27: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) does anyone not have picks yet??

message 28: by Lisa O. (new)

Lisa O. | 77 comments I'm going to read Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill it just shipped and should be here soon, I'm excited to get started!

Books that I love, if the narrator is good, I love reading them and then listening to them. I'll hear things I missed reading.

message 30: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) I finished up Dead until Dark the other - thanks for the rec' Carolyn and making me get the book off the to-read shelf...I enjoyed it more than I thought i thought and will probably check out the audiobooks for the later ones in the series

I really enjoyed Stormwalker Lisa :) Thank you so much for the great pick!

Reviews for me are going slow, but will eventually be posted on literaryescapism.com (and on my site too at wickedenchantment.com)

message 32: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ @ Rachel. great suggestions! I've been dying to read Moon Sworn but just couldn't fit it in a challenge. Finished it today and absolutely loved it!

message 33: by Lisa O. (new)

Lisa O. | 77 comments I just finished Some Girls Bite and I loved it. I read it all in one day, couldn't put it down. I just love Merit and her new gang of friends, I definitely can't wait to read the next one! Thanks for the recommendation Dee!

Tricia, glad you enjoyed Stormwalker, I think Firewalker is even better!

message 34: by Dee (last edited Feb 22, 2011 08:06AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) I'm glad you enjoyed it Lisa - I'm waiting impatiently for book 4 right now (doesn't help me that a friend in another group just read an ARC and has been torturing me...lol!) - but there are 2 more books due out this year - one in May and the other in November i think

I think I put that in my review - I ordered books 2 and 3 before I'd even finished book 1 which I rarely do
