Dylan (dmfriend26) | 34 comments I need help deciding what book to get. I found these books at wal mart. Thinner, The Shining, It, Different Seasons, From a buick 8, Night Shift, Skeleton crew, Lisley's Story, The Drawing of Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, or Eyes of the Dragon. What one's should I get. Pick three out of those that I should get. I already bought the shining. I want to get gunslinger sometime. So what are your opinions? :D

Hayley | 83 comments if it was me I would have bought them all, read for reading at my leisure - though if I had to pick one it would be IT, thats my personal favourite.

Tim (Mole) The Gunslinger (Mole) | 128 comments Id have to say any of his books of short stories if your gonna read any Dark Tower start with the gunslinger.

Dylan (dmfriend26) | 34 comments Thanks everyone I'll start The Shining and buy It later. I'll also look for gunslinger. The only thing that puts gunslinger off is because I don't like westerns, but is it horror too?

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments Dylan, you definitely have to get the word "gunslinger" out of your head. I would describe it as more sci-fi. If you like Stephen King, you have to read the Dark Tower series. Don't let that word make you nervous.

I don't think of the Dark Tower as western at all. I think it might just take place sometimes in areas that would be like the old west. But certainly not a western.

Steve | 247 comments A better way to start Dark Tower is Book 2: Drawing of The Three...then go to #1: The Gunslinger, and work your way forward from there. King gives you enough backstory at the start of #2 to get you started.

Skip From A Buick 8...it ain't really a keeper.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments I have to disagree, Agrimorfee, about From A Buick 8. It's not my favorite of Stephen King's books, but I definitely wouldn't skip anything of his. They are all good.....some are just much better than others.

Steve | 247 comments I didn't mean say to skip altogether...but to not buy. I do read everything of his at least once, but I am very fussy about what I actually purchase.
