Welcome to the Jane Austen Fan Videos discussion!

On the video-sharing site YouTube, you can find and endless number of fan videos made for the film adaptations of Jane Austen's novels. Programs called ripping programs allow fans to copy footage from a DVD to their computer's hard drive. It can then be imported into a video editing program like Sony Vegas or Final Cut and from there, creativity takes over. Fans take a great song, add titles and effects, and make a unique celebration of the works we all love.

I make fan videos myself as a hobby, and Austen adaptations are of course part of that! To start this discussion off, I would like to show you all a few videos that I have done as examples of the kinds of videos you will find.

The first is a regular music video--footage from the film set to music. This is the majority of the vids you'll find. One of my early Austen fan vids was "Lovestoned: Elizabeth/Mr. Darcy." Here it is:

You might also see fan trailers for films. I made one for the 2007 Northanger Abbey. Here it is:

Another type of vid you will find is the AU or crossover. AU stands for alternate universe, and it involves the video-maker creating their own story with the footage they use. Crossovers include footage from more than one film. These can be really creative and amazing to watch. With these types of vids, you HAVE to remember to read the plot is the description of the vid, or you'll be lost. I have never really been very good at these, but I recently made an "Austen Monster Mashup" one. Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25vAEp...

Feel free to tell me what you think of these, of course (I also have other Austen vids if you'd like to watch those). But most of all, search YouTube and find some videos you like. Again, there are TONS of them. Start a new thread in this folder when you find one you want to share with us and let's discuss this creative way to pay homage to our beloved Jane!

Manda (pemberliegh) | 96 comments I don't have access to youtube at work, so I can't post the link, but have you seen Jane Austen's Fight Club? It's a fake preview with the concept from Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club, but set in Austen's world of characters with Lizzy as the leader. It is ridiculous. And hilarious.

Yes, I have seen that video--it is HILARIOUS! If it has been a vid made out of footage from the Austen adaptations, I would already have started a thread for it!

Manda (pemberliegh) | 96 comments Yeah, I knew it wasn't quite what you were talking about, but it just reminded me of it. And then I giggled and had to share... it's just so wrong it swings around to awesome.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I saw on you tube, the pride and prejudce, north and south, and some others. Very nicely done.

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 162 comments What's your favorite couple in any love story? and the reason why too please.

message 7: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments Darcy and Lizzy. And I don't know why, they're just wonderful.

I like Marion and her guy too, out of Crimson Roses by Grace Livingston Hill.

And Anne and Gilbert out of Anne of Green Gables.

And Emma and Mr. Knightley...

I love them all, Anna. :) And I don't know why, they're just just right. :)

message 8: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Darcy and Lizzie
Jane and Mr. Bingley
Even Kitty and Mr. Wickham
All of the characters go so well with each other.

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 162 comments How about Marian and Harold Hill? Sir Percy and Margarete, Arwen and Agaron, Fairmiar and Eoywn and Rosie and Samwise.

message 10: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments Oooo, yes, Aragorn and Arwen are a good one. I <3 LotR!

message 11: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Marc Antony and Cleopatra
Romeo and Juliet
Have not heard of Arwen and Aragon, Fairmiar and Eowyn, or Rosie and Samwise?

message 12: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments They're all Lord of the Rings. :) Shakespeare ones...those are good! :)

message 13: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Never read Lord of the Rings. Shakespeare is good.

message 14: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments You should read LotR, Robin. They're really good. :)

message 15: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Maybe... others to read for now. Like the Moonstone, and Diary of a young girl by Anne Frank.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 162 comments That last one is much too sad for me. It makes me feel miserable for her. Please do LotR. It will be worth it. Maybe even watch the movies.

message 17: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments I've never read Moonstone, and I may have not read Diary of a Young Girl...but I'm very familiar with her story. The Holocaust fascinates me. :P

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 162 comments Have you heard of Raoul Wallenberg? He's an amazing man..a true hero in my eyes.

message 19: by Charity (new)

Charity U (narnianatheart) | 37 comments YES! Read a whole book about him by Alex Kershaw, I think. And nobody knows where he went...very sad. You could find my review of the book by looking on my Austenitis blog (link on my profile). It was this month or last. Or click the Holocaust link on the left under time period. :)

message 20: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I know, Anna C. I just thought I would read it since I never have read it before. I will look into Lord of the Rings, too. Maybe I am a glutton for punishment. Haven't had a good cry in awhile.

Amalie Speaking of which, if anyone is interested in these videos beyond Jane Austen's works , should check this period drama video. It's absolutely amazing and the editing is brilliant and I have watched almost all these films/mini series and love them all. Enjoy!

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) the one on the austen thread is nice, too. I am hooked on you tube also look for the Bright Star Kiss extended version. All good in my estimation.

message 23: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Northanger Abbey is on there, too. I just saw snippets of Tess of D'Ubervilles video, only you by blush, Justine Waddell one, 1998 version. I liked the melange of heroines on the above site by Rachel. One they didn't post was an officer and a gentlemen, the last scene that one gets me everytime.
