Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments How about a pair of shoes?
A haircut?

I've been flipping through magazines and I can't believe the amount they charge for a pair of jeans. I mean, $150? Get out of town. My limit is $50 for jeans, but I usually pay about $30. On the other hand I wear plain jeans sans all the zippers and appliques and special cat-whiskering nonsense.

Shoes are about the same, and a haircut about $40.

Everything costs more here. My favourite jeans cost about $120.00.

message 3: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments I don't think I've ever spent more than $100 for a pair of jeans, but I always make a deal with myself that if I'm in a size I want to be, I'll splurge and buy myself some.

I pay $70 for a cut and color.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This is a great question. There are many items of clothing for which I will not pay much. Except for suits. I've got some decent suits.

I think the most I've ever paid for jeans is maybe thirty bucks.

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments Oh, that's a good strategy. A reward tactic.

I went to get my hair "vegetable tinted" once. Ie, temporary dye. They wanted $80 just for the tint, haircut not included. I went to Rite Aid and bought a box of Clairol for six bucks.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments If it's something well made, that fits well on me, and that I love, I'll spend more for it. Not a fortune, not $100 for a pair of jeans, but I'll pay $50 and not mind.

I don't buy many clothes, but I wear the ones I have a lot, and I want to look put together.

Apparently for me it's only a good strategy for NOT buying expensive jeans. Maybe this is the year?

message 8: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments Actually, if I had $150 to blow on something, it wouldn't be jeans. I'd rather have something more substantial. Like a really nice blender. or that Zujirushi water kettle.

Yeah I pay pretty much what you pay, except of course you have to spend more on boots.

message 10: by Lori (new)

Lori Whatever Levis 505s are. Preferably on sale.

I'll spend $100 for shoes, and $150 on boots. Usually cheaper when on sale. Made to last. I have all I need right now.

message 11: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Jeans are between $17-$28.

Shoes are usually $35-$65 (tennis shoes) or $120-$250 (dress shoes).

Haircut is Great Clips, so about $12 plus a tip.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

My last pair of shoes cost $265. My last hair cut cost $mmmhphmmmph.

I own very few shoes. I wear them until they fall apart then replace them.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

i only pay alot money for the basic jeans, the ones that match with like anything and dont have any designs or rips. i pay up to $200 on them, but otherwise not more than $70.
shoes...a different story. i have a weakness for them, and will pay any price.
haircuts and whatnot, probably around $100

Helena | 1056 comments Back before I was poor (kid/house/dog) I spent an obscene amount of money on clothes & shoes (and cars).

I get my friend to do my hair for free, I buy AE jeans when they’re on sale buy one get one, usually about $50 for two pairs. I only shop with coupons for clothes now- I sign up for emails from every store I like. I have to say though, most of the most expensive shoes I bought back when I was rich, I still wear- they were built to last and I’m happy that I bought more ‘classic’ styles and not faddish stuff.

message 15: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) if I can find a pair of jeans that really fit and are long enough, I will pay! Since I wear a uniform at work, I will spend a little more to get something that I will actually wear outside of work and feel good wearing.

message 16: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments ms.petra- I used to wear a uniform, and I found that I spent more on clothes then... I also dressed up a lot more, I found uniforms so masculine.

message 17: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) exactly, Helena!

message 18: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments It’s nice to feel pretty and feminine after wearing a uniform all day/night. I had to wear body armour as well. Not becoming. Not becoming at all. Blech.

I do miss not having to think about what to wear to work.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

i hate uniform, but its nice not spending an hour in my closet debating on what ill wear to school tomorrow.

message 20: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments i'll just put what i pay in euros, if you want to know how much that is in dollars (american, australian or otherwise) or in korean wong you can go find a calculator yourself.

jeans usually around €50 depending on how desperate i am, haircut €10-€20 (just a cut), shoes no more than €100 (last pair of shoes i bought was €25), coats no more than €100.

message 21: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments $30+ for jeans. i just bought several pair at american eagle that were clearance for $9.99/ea, i am very much a clearance shopper for myself. shoes (which i love) i can pay good money for (especially work boots) but i still shop for clearance. i wouldn't pay a friggin farthing for a haircut

message 22: by Spellbound (new)

Spellbound (spellboundreads) | 117 comments I will not spend more than €70-80 for a pair of jeans. There is no way the cost can reasonably be more than that without being a total rip-off.

€70 for haricut and colour.

Shoes... well, I'd rather skip over this, it is my little dirty secret.

message 23: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I usually spend $20-30 on jeans, $40-50 on a haircut, and I hate spending more than $30 on shoes.

Last jeans (2 pairs) were $18 and $40 at Burlington Coat Factory.

Last haircut was free, courtesy of Youtube.

message 25: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4439 comments Last haircut was $80. The last two pair of jeans I bought some time ago and I think they were about $90 and $40.

message 26: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments As a guy, haircuts are just cheaper. $10-$15 if I 'splurge'. Then again one can look like a reject from a bad zombie flic.

Jeans I usually spend $25-40 (Carhart or Wrangler). I despise designer jeans that you are 'not to supposed' to wash.

Shoes/boots on the other hand can run into serious money as I have a very hard to fit foot. I like the comment above that shoes are a dirty little secret. Except mine are big honkin' hunks o' hide.
Cost? Well lets just say less than the mortgage.

message 27: by AER (new)

AER | 3 comments Jeans are about 40€ for me. Tops are mostly cheaper but sometimes (business clothes) they can also be around 50€.
Similar to Stina I tell myself that I will buy new nice clothes when I hit my weight goal. So far, it didn't happen...
Shoes are tough. I only like very few shoes and have a rare size. So sometimes these are over 100€, but never over 200€. I only have 3 pairs and wear them until they fall apart. So I have to buy new ones only every two years or so depending on the quality.
Haircuts (washing, cutting, drying) is about 50€, but I only go once or twice a year.
I always wonder how fellow students have the money for designer clothes and can pay 200€ for a handbag! Maybe I just have different priorities?
