Sure wish I could be there, Charissa! I just know it will be a wonderful evening full of lively conversation and great art.
AAWWWWWW!!!! OMG you guys are the greatest!!!! I wish I did know how to do a webcam!! I would totally stream our party live. Ha ha ha ha. My friend Victoria and her friends are especially entertaining. I can't wait until her friend Mike gets here... who I always call "smelly photography man". I swear, the man rarely bathes, smells like a brewery, and takes the most amazing photographs I have ever seen. http://michaelgarlington.com/ I'm expecting him to do something completely outrageous at some point. (ha, now watch him be on his best behaviour... although I'm fairly certain he doesn't have one).
I'll take pictures!!!
XOXOXOXO

Women are so easy to please. For me it usually takes sex. Or a burger.

Since I can't make - I'll send my alter ego instead

Oh it was fabulous. Lots of people, lots of amazing food, and the first truly successful soiré I have held in a coons age. I was delighted to find a great many people from the local paper, writers and publicists, and many local artisans who I have long admired having seen their work in shops around town. Several people bought pieces of mine at the party, and a photographer I admire complimented my photography. Wow!!! That was pretty cool.
Nobody got naked and danced on the balcony though, so it seemed kind of sedate. Is this really how other people party? Nothing was broken. Shocking.
Yesterday I felt like I had been hit by a truck, so I guess that's a sign that sufficient fun was had. Apparently drinking is no longer required for me to have a hang over. Yes, I'm actually that old.
Now I have half of a chocolate sheet cake sitting in my dining room. Good lord, someone come and steal it please?
xoxo

Oh man... I was extra cranky yesterday morning... wow... sometimes I really shouldn't post. Which is why I didn't for the rest of the day. Instead I lay on the couch and watched movies... napped... and drank lots and lots of water. I'm better now. : )
There IS someone working on Teleporters Donna! The process and theory has been mapped out, and successful “teleportation” has occurred. However it was only a single atom. Not too complicated actually. The complicated part comes in when you are trying to teleport all the atoms in a body and have them all end up in the right place at the destination. It is a question of computing power. We just don’t have enough. Once we figure out how to produce quantum computers teleportation should be right behind it… (Within 10 years) Also it isn’t really a warp, more of an accelerated light wave… yeah; apparently light being the fastest thing in the universe is not entirely 100% accurate. I am still working on understanding that…
I think by the time teleportation is available for mass transportation there will be no need for the TSA.
Either that or millions of weapons will go missing. In a blink of the eye explosions would just appear out of nowhere. This is possible because of the mode of transportation used.
Teleportation works on the quantum level: For every atom there is a parallel opposite atom. This is where things get screwy. The distance between an atom and its opposite atom (self) is infinite. It doesn’t matter if the distance is an inch or 30 AU’s. Any force/change to one simultaneously alters the other. Because it makes no difference what the distance is there is no delay in transfer. So if teleportation is in common use we would have to be in a really peaceful time in our civilization. Otherwise one could detonate a device anywhere and teleport just the explosion.

After that bowling ball explanation of gravity on Irene's group, you expect me to believe that?
Sorry dave, I was never really into Star trek. I will add Larry Niven to the double quick buy list, Donna promise.
That bowling ball explanation was pretty close to accurate, I left allot out, but that was to keep it disjointed.
Cyril Msg# 24: I don’t know if this was meant to call my knowledge of the subject matter into question or not but I have had nagging sensations since yesterday. So this is a full explanation of Gravity…
Newton correctly calculated the “force” of gravity. According to Newton gravity acts consistently and always on an object. That when in space everything moves in a straight line until gravity pulls it into an elliptical orbit.
Newton’s theory correctly predicts how objects fall and move through space; but he doesn’t calculate the delay of light. So things were always out of kilter by about 500 seconds. This stumped scientist of the time because they couldn’t understand why every thing matched up “almost”. It wasn’t until 200 years later that the “light” bulb went on. We only appear to see things in space “now” What were actually seeing is where it “was” 500 seconds ago. When we look at the sun we don’t see it as it is, we see it as it was. Gravity is not instantaneous!
Einstein corrected Newton’s flawed theory by removing the idea that gravity is a “force” that acts through out space. Einstein explains gravity as being embedded in the cosmos. Gravity isn’t a force at all, it is a curvature of space time, and objects must follow that curve. Gravity doesn’t effect mass or energy on earth directly. The space around the mass/energy is “warped” first and then (the object/energy) follows the curvature.
So Earth moves in a straight line. The sun causes a curve in space time (bowling ball on the sheet) and the earth (tennis ball) follows the curve into an elliptical orbit around the sun. Force pulling the earth away from the sun, the curvature pulling toward the sun. Hence the wobble.
Einstein’s theory only works however if light is also bent by the curvature. This was proven to also be correct in 1919 during an eclipse. The suns “rays” were deflected just as Einstein insisted they would be.

However, I am curious about the statement "gravity is not instantaneous." Is it not in fact that our observation of gravity (because of the delay of light) that makes it appear that gravity is not instantaneous?

Nothing can travel faster (in Einstein’s theory of relativity) then light, so gravity can not act on an object instantaneously.

Donna what book has Larry Niven short stories in them? I did a search on the guy but never realized how many books he has out..

Spooky action indeed: "On the basis of their measurements, the team concluded that if the photons had communicated, they must have done so at least 100,000 times faster than the speed of light -- something nearly all physicists thought would be impossible. In other words, these photons cannot know about each other through any sort of normal exchange of information."
My favorite comment: "Tachion Flux Drive is to 'yesterday'. Nowdays you need an Infinite Improbility Drive to be really cool and pick up the really hot chicks...."
Eh :( I can't read it NB. Stupid firewall.
But based on the comments by people who have posted; I am going to assume they were talking about using photons as information transfer… (Kind of like a super internet) I have dabbled in a few resources about this subject, and I am still struggling with the “faster” then light aspect. It kind of goes against everything I KNOW about physics, but fulfills my HOPE for physics.

I've been dealing with car and PC issues...I'm hoping they're all resolved now.
Good on ya!
Thanks Xysea!!! :::smishes:::: Life is what happens when you are making other plans, no? It's why I rarely make plans. ; )
Can you activate a webcam somewhere so we can watch?
