Time to pick a new book folks. Any nominations?

I enjoyed Snow Crash and The Handmaid's Tale. In fact, I could actually use some of my fancy college learnin' to talk about The Handmaid's Tale, I enjoy it that much.

It seems to me that this group might enjoy The Sheriff of Yrnameer or maybe one of Jasper Fforde's books.

I'd be up for any of those. I think I've read I, Robot (not sure, but I did read a good amount of is robot work) I even pulled my copy of the foundation Trilogy out of the library and returned it to my to read shelf. Still haven't done that series. Is Jasper Fforde the Tuesday Next author? I really enjoyed the first one, but the idea seemed to get stale after a few retreads.

Haven't read the Handmaid's Tale, and it's on my list... I also recommend Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde - it's a completely different vein than the Thursday Next series, and very well done.

I thought Handmaid's Tale was meh. It's okay.

I, Robot was great. I tried the Caves of Steel, which would be the next step in the robot series and didn't really get into it so set it aside.

I have a shiny new copy of the Foundation Trilogy just waiting to be read.

But I'll leave the decision up to those ready to read. I'm 60% through Game of Thrones and hoping to read at least Name of the Wind soon (and maybe the next one if so inspired).

I have such a book crush on Shades of Grey. I was on friendly terms with it for the first bit and then without even noticing it, we totally started holding hands part way through. I find myself wanting to bring up the world from that book all the time. I am eager for the next book in that series.

I've been off reading Game of Thrones and not checking in here much. Finally finished, but I still haven't read the Rothfuss stuff. The group should forge ahead (don't be a hero, go on without me... save yourselves).

I'll go vote for Foundation now.

Okay, poll is closed. Looks like Foundation won with LHLV anyway.

And kind of on that topic, I'll be honest and say that I've yet to read a book along with the group. That said, I'm so happy this group is here. I've enjoyed reading the thoughts people have posted about the books. I've read a few books that people in this group recommended and I'm eager to eventually read a book at the same time as this group.

So, let's pick some new books!

Definitely looking for some new suggestions... but I'm also starting to organize an RPG campaign, so I might be lacking time to actually read.

I'd like to nominate The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett - mostly because I've been stalled on it for like 5 or 6 weeks (I did read Shades of Grey in there though). Set in Medieval England, it reads quite like A Game of Thrones and The Name of the Wind.

I'd go along with The Time Traveler's Wife - going to Borders today and will possibly pick it up. Stat - I've a couple recommendations for you: The Bookseller of Kabul and Lipstick Jihad. Both should pique your interest in feminist studies.

I've also stalled out (or failed to start, more accurately) on Pillars of the Earth. I hear it's interesting once you get into it...

I really loved Time Traveller's Wife - it's not a perfect novel, and the protagonists are not always sympathetic, but there's not a novel that I've thought about away from the book more than this one in a long time.

I liked a Handmaids Tale but I like Canticle for Leibowitz more. And for some reason in my head those are linked as like books even though they are only similar on the broadest level.
