What was the last book that kept you up half the night reading (or made you late for work)?

message 2: by Heather (new)

Heather (luvmy4brats) | 2 comments Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand is one of the best books I've read in years. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it is SO worth it!

Karen Ng (karenand3) It would have to be A Discovery of Witches. The story is captivating, and the author has great knowledge of Science, history, Europe, wine, alchemy and food! Don't read it if you're looking for an easy read!

Katrina (katrinalovesreading) I would say Cutting for Stone. The story was so engrossing it kept me up til 1 a.m. a few nights. It is one of my all time favorites i would rank it up there with The Kite Runner and Someone Knows my Name.Cutting for StoneThe Kite RunnerSomeone Knows My Name

Jennifer (jennifer2kids) | 8 comments The Botticelli Secret was an amazing read! Ten times better than Dan Brown's DaVinci Code.

@Karen - I can't wait to read A Discovery of Witches! Waiting for it to come down in price =(

I've heard several people talking about this book. I've been really tempted to buy it with my amazon gift card.

I enjoyed reading Cutting for Stone too. One of those you could just not stop reading.

Betty Piper | 2 comments I recently purchased The Kingmaking by Helen Hollick through pixelfoink.com It was so exciting that I could not stop and have just finished the second in the series, Pendragons Banner. I love reading about King Arthur but this one is a new Arthur, perhaps not as likeable, but the story is great.

GenieD | 8 comments The Partner was a great read for me. The story was of course a John Grisham legal thriller, with a surprise ending. The Partner

Janet | 4 comments I would have to say the Stieg Larson books, I had a hard time with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but once I got a third of the way through it I could not put it down. The other two held me from the beginning. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played with Fire
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Crystal (crystalmpope) | 8 comments The Last book I read that kept me up all night , as in 2:45 a.m on a Thursday night, was " Beneath the Night Tree " by Nicole Baart . I was a great read

message 12: by Juliette (new)

Juliette | 3 comments I really enjoyed "Lessons (and other morbid drabbles)" by Michael Crane. It didn't keep me up or make me late because it only took me 10 minutes to read, but I felt it was a worthy 99cent buy. Now I'm addicted to these flash fiction/drabbles.

Since the author is really knowledgeable almost about everything you can name of...she tends to rattle on about science or history or even wine. I really enjoy the tidbits...but for people who are looking for a quick romance vampire read..it might disappoint. Also, this is the first book of a trilogy, so be prepared for the wait.

Lisa P My last captivating read started out quite innocently with a free kindle download, by an author I had never read before. The reviews sounded good, so I thought I'd give it a try (after all, it was free). From the first page I was hooked and continued to read all five books in the series in record time. The first book in the Fever series is Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. This series was really a page turner that I just couldn't put down.

message 16: by Rachel (new)

Rachel The last book that kept me up late reading was The Hunger Games- had a hard time putting that down!

I agree Rachel I started and finished the entire series in two weeks.

message 18: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lgcoleman) Definitely The Bronze Horseman. It has made me happy, sad, and angry! It's a rollercoster.

Dana (danaisreading) Rachel wrote: "The last book that kept me up late reading was The Hunger Games- had a hard time putting that down!"

Definitely. I finished off that entire trilogy in one weekend.

The other book that kept me up until the wee hours was Shatter Children of Man 1 by Elizabeth C. Mock. I just didn't want to wait to finish reading it. The second book of the trilogy is coming out soon (I think), and I cannot wait for it!

Tracy Y | 9 comments I just finished Breaking Night, the story of Liz Murray. It was GREAT and had me craving more. Now, I'm reading Glass Castle, which is a simular type story. So far so good!

Ashleej | 1 comments Both these books were amazing!! As soon as I read the first one I had to get the second....Empty Chairs: Much more than a story about child abuseFaint Echoes Of Laughter

Caroline Fyffe | 2 comments I just finished, Fables of the Flag, an awesome new YA time-travel!!! It had me hooked from the first page, and is the first in a series. An eight grader, Jack Preston, goes back in time and meets Ben Franklin as a teen!! It's all very clever. It's a debut book by Ethan Coffee....

Tony Slater (tonyjamesslater) I'm reading 'Wool' - there's 5 relatively short stories, and I'm buying 'em one at a time (for 77p each!).
Definitely worth it. The first was captivating, such beautiful use of language - no wonder the omnibus edition has like 600+ 5 star reviews! When you see THAT on a page, how can you not buy?
So, 1/2 way through book 2 of the series, and I'm really struggling to put it down. So much easier to immerse myself in someone else's world than put in the hard yards creating my own :0)
I strongly recommend it!

message 28: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 3 comments I would have to say Where We Belong by Emily Giffin . I got to a really good part in the book and I didn't want to stop reading, except that it was after midnight and I knew I would never be able to get up for work in the morning so I reluctantly put it down :(
