UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments April's Build Your Own Challenge

Duration - April 1-30th

Wow, it's with a heavy heart that I've decided that April will be the last month for the Not Too Challenging Challenges. It's been so much fun, but alas, all good things must come to an end.

(view spoiler)

So, you know the drill. If YOU can make it tie in with April, or whatever April means to YOU, you can build a challenge with it!

Some April Holidays and observations -

* National Humor Month
* International Guitar Month
* Keep America Beautiful Month
* Lawn and Garden Month
* Poetry Month
* National Pecan Month
* National Welding Month
* Records and Information Management Month
* Stress Awareness Month
* Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Weekly Celebrations -

* Week 1 Library Week
* Week 1 Read a Road Map Week.
* Week 2 Garden Week
* Week 3 Organize Your Files Week
* Week 3 Medical Labs Week
* Week 4 Administrative Assistants Week
* Week 4 National Karaoke Week

More April Ideas -

*Books with April in the title, or April as the author's name or a characters' name.
*Books published in April of any year.
*Stories that take place in April.

Please post your status updates by giving me the number of books you plan to read - if you know - and the number you've actually read, like this:

3/17 or 2/10 or 4/12, etc. Posting your stats this way makes it easy for me to see what they are. My eyes aren't getting any younger :)

The only restriction is that you can't not begin before April 1st.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Welcome back, Rosamina! My kids just started a 2 week Spring break, though technically, I home school my 17 year old son, but I allow him the same holidays and breaks as the public schools. My daughter is in college, and her SB doesn't start until April 18th?

message 21: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) Dhes, my spring break was last week! It's so weird having it so early this year.

When I was a kid, back before the ice melted, we got 1 week and it always coincided with Easter. I remember when my oldest came home from school the first time telling me that "Spring" break was about to start. I was like... ok, but when is Easter break? LOL

message 23: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) We always used to have just Easter Break and we'd get about a week to a week and a half for that. But this year, they made it weird and we had one week for spring break and like two days off around Easter.

message 24: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Our schools get 0 days off for Easter and 2 weeks Spring Break. Next year they'll only get 1 week for Spring.

message 25: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) Huh. Weird. Schools are weird.

message 27: by Rose (new)

Rose | 109 comments I'm back in the states with my newly purchased nook and I've been going book-buying crazy! I'm going to try to shave off 12 books from my ever growing TBR. 5 of which were published in the month of April. :-)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments WELCOME BACK TO THE STATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been thinking of you!!! i see your pretty good urself.so, next question. how are the books? did they arrive ok?

message 29: by Rose (new)

Rose | 109 comments Thanks Autumn, it's so great to be back. I spent an entire day in a bookstore jet lagged when I got home. But since I had so many books I decided to send them via "surface" mail so it may take up to 3 months to get them all. But I just got 2 out of the 7 boxes yesterday so hopefully the others aren't too far behind.

Thank you Dhes!!! Easter holidays in Spain are a bit different. I'll be working until April 15th, and that's because I'm a teacher, people normally start their holidays on 20th ;)

message 37: by Susinok (new)

Susinok My April Challenge is a theme I came up with myself. I like unusual historical novels, so I made a list of novels that are not in England, or not in Regency or Victorian time periods.

This one is all about unusual times or places for Historical Romance:

Other Times, Other Places Historical Romance

1. Barbara Samuel - The Black Angel - Georgian
2. Georgette Heyer - These Old Shades - Georgian
3. Laura Kinsale - The Shadow and the Star - Hawaii/Victorian
4. Margaret Mallory - Knight of Desire - Medieval
5. Julie Garwood - Ransom - Medieval Scotland
6. Julie Garwood - The Bride - Medieval Scotland
7. Carrie Lofty - Scoundrel's Kiss - Medieval Spain
8. Marsha Canham - Swept Away - Pirate
9. Judith James - Libertine's Kiss - Restoration
10. Bonnie Dee - Captive Bride - San Francisco

The Black Angel by Barbara Samuel These Old Shades (Alistair, #1) by Georgette Heyer The Shadow and the Star (Victorian Hearts, #2) by Laura Kinsale Knight of Desire (All the King's Men) by Margaret Mallory Ransom (Highlands' Lairds, #2) by Julie Garwood The Bride (Lairds' Fiancées, #1) by Julie Garwood Scoundrel's Kiss (Medieval, #2) by Carrie Lofty Swept Away by Marsha Canham Libertine's Kiss by Judith James Captive Bride by Bonnie Dee
And I own all but three of this set...
