Krissie | 224 comments Ok, I checked on how many books I've bought from Audible and it's 420, plus another 22 bought in physical form. 442 books? Well, it's because I'm suddenly able to read again, plus books are a business expense and tax-deductible. Plus, I'm someone who'll buy books before food or even fabric.
How outrageous is that? There are only about a handful that I haven't read.
Oh, I forgot, Crusie just sent a handful of hers, so that probably puts it up to 450 since early 2009.
Bad Krissie

message 2: by Kelli (new)

Kelli (oddiophile) Ouch, I wish you hadn't brought this topic up. I was in denial until now. iTunes tells me I have 615 individual audiobooks and can listen for 313.9 days, should I be so inclined.

Needless to say, Audible is my downfall and audiobooks are my crack.

message 3: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments LOL! That makes me feel so much better!

message 4: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (magzzzz) | 25 comments Oh, I have too many. At least 400 from audible and I can see at least at least a hundred more from where I'm sitting. I've been collecting for 6 or 7 years. I get at least 6 a month from audible (what with sales and everything) but I still buy a couple of physical audiobooks a month on top of that. I have an addiction... I need help, lol.

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments I have an addiction but I don't want help. LOL Who needs fancy shoes or handbags? Give me a book, I'll read/listen about them instead! ;)

According to iTunes I have 749 audiobooks. There are 25 to 30 in there that I'll never listen to, kids books, or not interested in.

I'm guessing I've listened to 70% of them. I don't see the 30% TBL percentage changing in the near future, too many good books coming out to ever fully catch up.

Yep, my idea of heaven!

message 6: by Terra (new)

Terra (terralyne) | 28 comments So, ladies....is there a site where you get some of your audiobooks for free? Over the last 2 years, I've accumulated nearly 70 in my iTunes account but I've also borrowed an obscene amount from the library.

I have asked my kids and hubby to sign up for Audible (on different devices) to receive the "introductory $7.50/credit for the first 3 mos." offer. Sorry, I know that's sneaky...but I was able to do that 5 times.

I guess that's kind of an addiction...working the Audible system. 'Cause, twice, when I went to cancel after the introductory time period, they asked why and I told them I'm looking to watch my spending, they gave me a $20.00 credit!! It was like Christmas! :)

I agree with Brenda! Just had discussion with cousin and she has like 5 or 6 coach pursues and a few pair of their shoes. I own 1 coach key chain my sister gave me. I'd rather have the audiobooks than the fancy name brand shoes and purses!

According to iTunes, I've got 824... Not sure percentage of what's been listened. I also get stuff for DH that I may have no interest in hearing but I manage the joint audiobook library. :)

I've had 3 audible accounts myself. My sisters and cousin have both had accounts, and my niece. I don't think I've tagged my hubby to do it yet.

I have gotten some free audiobooks on special occasionally. Those have usually been through audible or AudioFile Magazine. Audible sales get me and Audiobook Stand (Brilliance Audio has had some good sales on overstocks through the years.

message 9: by Kaetrin (new)

Kaetrin | 93 comments I currently have 288 audiobooks on my shelf and I think I've listened to less than 1/3 of them - but reading up thread, I don't feel guilty at all now!

message 10: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments I have three Audible accounts too. I signed up for the additional 2 accounts in order to get the $100.00 off a new iPod offer that they occasionally run. I'd let one account expire and then sign up for a new one to get the discount.

I've been collecting audiobooks for at least ten years now, at one time there were lots of ex library copies of audiobooks to be had at eBay for ridiculously low prices, so that helped build my library.

I've had good audiobook karma come my way in a couple of instances that involved trading some hard to find books on cassette, and it all adds up to my current library. :D

message 11: by MaryK (new)

MaryK | 168 comments I've made some great audiobook finds at library sales. And the other day I found a Hamish MacBeth audio at the GoodWill Store! It's strictly a question of being in the right place at the right time, though.

Nefertiti (bluebreeze) | 14 comments I started listening to audiobooks about 1.5 years ago and have 103 books. I'm pretty much a rookie compared to most of you.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 225 comments I have about 300 audio books....most are from audible but some are CD's I have purchased over the years..

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) I refuse to count mine. It's truly embarrassing.

message 16: by Susinok (new)

Susinok Couple hundred, I would think. I've been an Audible member since 2007.

message 17: by ~KarenH~ (new)

~KarenH~ | 36 comments Well, my GR audiobook shelf currently has 697 entries, but it's not completely current (I need to do something about that) so I know I'm well over 700 - maybe as high as 725, but probably not quite...yet!

message 18: by Tania (new)

Tania 68... How did that happen? I only started listening to them a year and a half ago and it's not my preferred reading option. Itunes says I can listen for 36.2 days.

message 19: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments I see that some of you do also purchase physical copies of audiobooks. I do love them for my daily commute as I just pop them into the CD player and leave them there until I finish the book. Whenever I get a Barnes and Noble coupon, I add a new "physical" audiobook to my collection.

Is anyone interested in swapping/trading physical CDs or MP3-CDs of audiobooks? I rarely re-listen and I have at least 10 that I have marked to donate or list on paperbackswap.com.

Just curious to see if there was any interest.
Cheers!

message 20: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Melanie I'd be interested - let me go pull out my physical copies and I'll make a list of what I'd have to swap. This would be much better than getting a couple of credits at PBS. ;)

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 225 comments I'd be interested in a swap thread....I don't have to many physical auido books but I do have a few...

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Sounds like a Swap thread is a good idea - we're already in the right section - General Audio and Off Topic.

I'll move my list over ... as I see it's already gone up. :D

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments Last year, I did a major overhaul of my book and audiobook storage. I made one entire wall of the master bedroom into my library.
Please note, I did leave a small space for hubby's TV.

And now there are no longer bags, boxes, tubs of books hidden in various nooks and crannies around the house. IKEA is my friend!

message 32: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Whoa! That is a gorgeous set up Melanie - color me green with envy! ;)

message 33: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments You should have seen what I had before....well you probably would not have wanted see it!!

If the TV ever goes out, I will be on my way to IKEA for one more shelf!! They have these great ones designed for CDs and are just deep enough for a hardcover book. Perfect with out taking up a lot of floor space.

By the book names, by authors, or by series?

LOL, it looks wonderful to me though (Love my kindle)

message 36: by Melanie♥ (last edited Jan 29, 2013 02:11PM) (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments My audiobooks have half of the first unit. After that, by author with series grouped together. I still have a few stacks to add, but I am mostly all caught up. I do still occasionally find a book or two that I stashed somewhere when cleaning up =) I actually found a book mixed in with the Christmas decorations when I took them out of the attic this year!

Out of curiosity Melanie, what bookshelves did u buy at Ikea? I'm looking for media shelving, not bookshelves. Don't want them too deep.

message 40: by Melanie♥ (last edited Jan 30, 2013 09:12AM) (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments Grace, I got the ones that were called CD/DVD shelves. I don't remember the name...those IKEA names always stump me. I can get you the measurements when I get home. I know I bought two extra shelves for each one so that I could maximize the space.

Oh no -- don't take the time to measure. Ikea with their names...just didn't know if you remembered it. I can look for the CD/DVD shelving. Thanks though! :)

message 45: by Brittany B. (new)

Brittany B. (benoibe) | 310 comments Hi everyone.

My Audible stats are humiliating. I currently have 800+ audiobooks, and I average about 375 listening hours a month. Though in my defense, I do fall asleep at night listening to my books sometimes, and I often listen at work, while working out, in the bath tub, etc. (Im already making excuses. Addicted much? Lol)
I pretty much only stop listening to spend time with my hubby-to-be, and also to watch the History Channel show "Pawn Stars".

I wish I could lend out the books in my Audible library to others, so the books wouldn't go to waste after I've read them. Like the borrow program for Ebooks.

***Btw: I haven't been around as much to participate. I miss all of you. If I didn't respond to correspondences it's because I haven't had a chance to read the messages. Things are crazy busy (wedding prep!!) but I hope to be back to normal within a few months. After Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl take over the city... :) ***
