I picked this book up on a whim like 6 months ago because I kept seeing it everywhere and I figured I'd give it a try. I don't know if I liked it more or less than I thought I would, I'm pretty neutral about it. I almost gave it 2.5 stars but I liked the descriptions a lot, especially the part about the crystal shop. This was a little too "deep" and preachy for me, I don't usually read those types of books, but it was good overall. I think I would have liked it a lot better if there weren't so many lessons and if it was told from first person perspective. I didn't like how Santiago was just "the boy" and the sentences were like "the boy wanted to go home". I felt really disconnected from him, and I think it would have made the book a lot better for me if it wasn't like that.

Is Eima a dreamer? I can't say yes neither no, I think she dreams about unrealistic happiness, she refused her reality, without giving herself a chance to enjoy what she already has.
I can't judge a character but while reading I was searching for excuse, trying to figure out why she thinks so, or why does she do so!!!!

She ran after what she though as happiness, and lastly she couldn't find happiness nor a way to scape from reality except by suicide.

I think as a story it deserves 3 or 4 stars, but I didn't like the way of making things more longer by describing the natural and the places in a boring way.

This book was very good. I really enjoyed all the fantastic creatures and faeries and I think that the plot is refreshing. I am glad to see a YA romance that doesn't involve vampires. I really enjoyed the tension between Megan and her love interest and I am really hoping that this relationship is able to work out! I am such a hopeless romantic....

I've been listening to this audio book on the daily commute for the past six weeks. At 21 CDs long, each approximately an hour long, it has taken time to listen to it all. But it was well worth every moment. The story is complex and complicated with many different characters to remember and situations to comprehend. It's a long time since I have enjoyed a science novel as much as this.

The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon

From its first pages it tells you that there is a lot that you dont know in this world, and because of curiosity you'll continue reading..
This book tells the story of the deadly obsession that drove people to extremes trying to find a fabled lost civilization in the amazons. It focuses on the famous expedition of the British explorer Col. Percy Fawcett who went to find what he called" The Lost City of Z" and never came back.
Whats more interesting about this book is that it gives some insight to human nature, how the westerns looked down on the South American natives and considered them inferior to the "Victorian Standards" and in-capable of constructing a complex civilization. Yet the same "sophisticated Europeans" treated the native so cruelly in the name of survival.
It also sheds light on how important the quest was for the explores at that time that they went out of their ways and endangered their lives to cover their tracks and to keep their exact locations from others so no one would beat them to their goal or steal their glory. Which reminds us –we who live in the age of technology- that there were people who risked their lives for the scientific discoveries we so easily use today.
If you are reading this book to find a definitive answer to what exactly happened to Col. Fawcett, then you won't find your answer here, But if you want answers about "Z" Then the answers are waiting for you at the end of this book.

Title: Thinking Physics: Understandable Practical Reality

I picked up this book in my first year of undergraduate physics and loved it. Post-graduation and I still feel the same way.

It is a fun book full of practical yet out-of-the box physics MCQ type mini challenges. The humorous writing style makes it easy to comprehend different (and sometimes complex) physics concepts. It is suitable for anybody who is interested in physics, and does not require an aptitude in mathematics to understand the solutions - in fact, there was barely any math in it at all!

I consider this book to be one of those essential and timeless “fun” physics books that should be on the shelf of physics students and teachers. Buy it! Trust me, you won’t regret it!

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

hmm let's see, if you are that emo guy who hates everyone then this book is for you.
It was interesting to know the story of Holden Caughfield and I think the writer delivered it well. but I didn't relate to the character nor the story. I don't know. the book is good but not as good as I expected it to be
a quick and easy read. recommended for teens and high school graduates :)J.D. Salinger

The Trial by Franz Kafka

My first Kafka! (I have read The Metamorphosis when I was very young, therefore that doesn't count since I did not have the ability to form a good opinion on things, then.) I have a feeling though that his other work might be better since this one was, after all, never completed - though it had an ending, which led the reader to being not completely satisfied.

'The Trial' was one hilarious bureaucratic dark nightmare. Tyranny is very evident in this, and only now I understand why it should be a required reading. The whole time I am reading it, I am just thinking "Thank goodness I am not Josef K.". Just be prepared to let this feeling of helplessness grow bigger inside you.
The reading process might be tedious to some people, since basically "nothing" happens, and because there are no paragraph breaks even in dialogues, and the whole thing is a series of misfortunate turns in something that was not supposed to happen in the first place. Just, frustration! I liked it, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like to cover all classics, since it will add to their bank of intellect quite a bit. However, I do think that it will dramatize whatever court experience you might get in the future.

كنت أحتآج لكتآب من هذا النوع لفهم موضوع كموضوع العلمآنية والديمقراطية والليبرآلية وعلآقتها بالأديآآآن.. فعلآ كنت أحتآج لهذا النوع من الدراسة وهذا النوع من الحيآدية..
فموضوع كالعلمانية اعتدنآ أن نقرأ أو نسمع عنه من مؤيدين متطرفين يحاولون اثبات وجهة نظرهم وايضاح محآسنه فقط ومعارضين متطرفين لايرون فيه إلآ نظآم فآشل ومليء بالسلبيآت..
بدآية الكتآب كآنت معلومآت ليست جديدة بالنسبة لي تتعلق بفصل الكنيسة الكاثوليكية وظهور البروستاتنية والآثآر العظيمة التي تلك الأحدآث..
ولكن بشكل عآآآم الكتآب زودني بكم ليس بسيط من المعلومآت الشآآملة من مختلف الزوآيآآ لموضوع جدلي كهذآ..

فكمآ يقول الكآتب أن أساس الخلاف بين الإسلام والعلمانية يكمن في التأسيس النظري لكل منهمآ ودور المبادئ الدينية في توجيه الحياة الخاصة والعامة
ولذأ كآن علينا "بدلا من إدارة مماحكات نظرية مجردة حول قبول العلمانية أو
رفضها يستحسن ضبط القضايا وتسمية الأشياء بمسمياتها" كما أوضح الكاتب.

وبعد أن تكلم عن حقيقة اللائكية الفرنسية بشيء من التفصيل وكيف أن الثورة الفرنسية رغم أنها فتحت "أفق الوعي الإنساني لمعالجة شرور السياسة" فذلك لايعني إنها لم تفتح "الباب على مصراعيه أمام ظهور أنماط استبدادية جديدة غير مسبوقة" ،ختم أطروحته بضرورة "إعادة الامور إلى نصابها الطبيعي بحسب مقومات الرؤية الواقعية للإسلام التي ترى في الإنسان مزيجا من الخير والشر ، وفي العلاقات الإنسانية ساحة تدافع تتداخل فيها خطوط الخير مع الشر وأنصبة الحق مع الباطل"

ثلاث مقالات طويلة للفيلسوف واسع التأثير، يحكي فيها عن معتقداته الشخصية، والأسباب التي قادته لها.

الكتاب بمجمله هو عن نظرته السلبية للنصرانية (المقال الثاني بأكمله هو بعنوان "لماذا لست نصرانياً")، مقابل إيمانه بالأخلاق البشرية الإيجابية التي لا تنبع من تشريع إلهي أو كتاب سماوي، بل من دافع اشباع رغبات الأفراد في مجتمع، ومحاولة التقاء هذه الرغبات مع بعضها.

في معرض عرض رأيه عن أسباب عدم اقتناعه بالنصرانية، يبين أيضاً أسباب عدم ايمانه بوجود الله، وهو صريح وواضح حول كونه ملحداً.

الكتاب مثير للاهتمام لأن أفكار برتراند تتردد كثيراً في المجتمعات والثقافة الغربية، دون أن يكون لها اسم محدد في العادة. العلمانية الملحدة هي مذهب من المحتمل أن يصادف الشخص في هذا الزمان، لهذا وجدت أن فهم مبادئه هو مما يثير الإهتمام.

شخصياً، هناك نقاط أتفق معها ونقاط اختلف مع الكاتب فيها.
مما أتفق معه فيه هو أنه من السلبي أن تستخدم الأديان لإيقاف البحث والتقدم العلمي. من السلبي مثلاً أن نقبل بأن الله تعالى خلق شيئاً ما على عيئة معينة، ويمنعنا هذا من التقصي والبحث فيه. كأن نقول مثلاً أن الله هو الذي يحرك النجوم والكواكب، ويمنعنا ذلك الإيمان من محاولة دراسة الفلك والفيزياء.

هذه النقطة هي مثال مما ذكره الكاتب حول تجربة المجتمعات الغربية مع الكنيسة الكاثوليكية، ومن ثم يقيسونها على جميع الأديان. هذا القياس هو أحد ما أعتبه على الكاتب. فهذه التجربة لا تتكرر مع كل الأديان، أو كل الثقافات المبنية على أديان. فالحضارة الإسلامية مثلاً لم تسمح بالبحث العلمي فحسب، بل ازدهر فيها وبقي شعلة مضائة لمئات السنين. (بعلى الرغم من وجود أصوات جاهلة تنادي فعلاً بما يقول به الكاتب -- لا أزال أذكر امام مسجد قال بكفر من يستمطر صناعياً لأن الله وحده هو الذي ينزل المطر، لا عقلانية بشعة! لكن هذا لا يلام على الدين، بل على الجهل البشري لكونه موجوداً حتى في المجتمعات اللادينية).

عموماً وجدت الكتاب مختصراً ومثيراً للاهتمام لأني متعطش لهذا الموضوع هذه الأيام. لا أنصح به لكل أحد.

I remember when it first came out back in 2005 it made quite a controversy. I chose to read in English out of curiosity, just to to see what foreigners have took from it. It's well written and translated. Very realistic, I actually enjoyed it and I still don't know why it was banned. I related to the characters, some of them at least. It's a good read.

A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff


As a chick-lit, this was one of the good ones. I love the characters and the story. I felt it was more original than many chick-lits out there. I also loved the fact that the author did not focus on the romance as much and the protagonist wasn't annoying, either. However, I did feel that some parts were redundant and almost two-thirds of the book was highly unrealistic.

But overall an enjoyable read. I've read the book in almost one day and I think it qualifies as an airplane book.

I'd procrastinated reading this book long enough. It's been sitting on my to-read shelf for 5 months now, and every time I looked at it, I'd get this insane urge to tuck it away somewhere dark. I think I shouldn't have read the reviews before reading the book, it made me all nervous.

The Hunger Games is a very strong series, each book a bigger emotional overload than the one before it, and Mockingjay was no different. I felt exhausted by the time I reached the last page. And I'd refrained from reading the ending and spoiling it for myself, as I usually do, so I was in a high state of anticipation throughout the whole reading.

But, boy was it worth it. This is a really good book. A really really good book. A great ending to a great series.

I guess there's more to be said, but I can't articulate it in a proper paragraph, so I'm just going to leave it at this note.


Oh, one more last thing. (view spoiler)[ I didn't appreciate the writer pulling a Fred by killing off Finnick. It was completely unnecessary and an action gimmick. Prim, I'd understand, since her death is instrumental to the ending, and I'd never really connected with her, but Finnick had just gotten married to Anne. His happiness had been a bright spot in the book. Why kill him off? That is all. (hide spoiler)]

وجبة سياسية دسمة تحوى معلومات شيقة عن الكثير من الشخصيات الساسية العربية والأجنبية، وبعض السياسات التي اتبعتها المملكة في الأوقات العصيبة التي مرت بها خلال الثلالثين سنة الماضية. كتاب ممتعٌ وشيق ومفيد.

بداية قرائتي لهذه الرواية إختنقت من كمية الكآبة المتراصة في بداية السطور،لا يعني ذلك أن الكمية خفت مع تقدمي في الصفحات،لكنني إعتدت على الطابع المأساوي للرواية بالإضافة إلى حالة التصوف العجيبة التي كان يحظى بها بطل الرواية،كنت أحاول عيش تلك الأجواء فقط.
كيف للإنسان أن يتجاوز ألمه وما يلم به من عجز وظروف أقرب للموت منها للحياة ويرتقي بروحه متجاوزاً الجسد المهتريء ألماً ومرضاً وعجزاً؟
كيف له أن يحافظ على عقله وإيمانه وتمسكه بالحياة؟
إنه اللا أمل،لقد وطن نفسه على أن لا يتعاطى مخدرات من هذا النوع حتى لا يحلق عالياً ويقع فيكون سقوطه سبب موته.

أحد الإقتباسات التي يشرح فيها عن حالته "التذكر هو الموت.لقد استغرقني بعض الوقت كيما أدرك أن التذكر هو العدو.فمن يستدع ذكرياته يمت تواً،بعدها،كأنه يبتلع قرص السم.
ولكن،كيف كان لنا أن نعرف أن الحنين في ذلك المكان يؤدي إلى الموت؟"
إنه لم يردع ذاكرته عن الأمل فقط،بل حتى عن التذكر.....لذلك نجا.

من الأفكار التأملية التي استوقفتني كثيراً "الضعف يكمن في أن تؤخذ المشاعر على أنها الواقع،في أن تصبح متواطئاً مع كذبة تنطلق من ذاتك لترتد إلى ذاتك فتحسب أنك بذلك خطوت خطوة إلى الأمام.
والحال أنك إذا شئت أن تسير قدماً في تلك الصحراء فلا بد لك من الإنعتاق من كل شيء،وأن تدرك أن الفكرة وحدها التي تنعتق من كل شيء كفيلة بأن تقضي بك إلى لطائف الدعة التي قد يكون إسمها الوجد.

رواية رغم الألم الذي تنضح به إلا أنها تعي تشكيل مفهوم الحياة رغم عنك،تجردك من كل ما تحسبه مهماً في هذه الحياة،تعيدك إنساناً يتعلق بخالقه وإيمانه به فقط.
ما أجمله من إيمان...

للمرة الأولى في حياتي اكون مشدودة جدا لقراءة كتاب من بدايته كما فعل هذا الكتاب بي!
ياسر حارب ، لم كن اعرف تفكيره و كتاباته الا من خلال تويتر و لكن بعد ان وجدت ثناء كبيرا على كتابه قررت ان اقرأ له

افكاري مشتتة الان، او بالاحرى مزدحمة بكمية الاقتباسات و التشبيهات الجميلة التي اوردها ياسر حارب في كتابه
وجدته يتكلم عني و عن مجموعة لا بأس بها من مجتمعنا، الذي و بكل بساطة لا يعرف ماذا يريد.
عندما تحدث عن النمطيين، احسست ببعض افعالهم تشبه افعالي، تضايقت كثيرا لكني سعدت بالحلول التي وضعها بعد ان انتقد هذه الشريحة من المجتمع
،كتب عن الموت، الحياة، الامل، و الالم ،الاختيارات التي نقوم بها، حتى الدوائر تأمل فيها و نبهنا كم هي مهمة في حياتنا اهمية بالغة
كتب عن التأمل، و انه يساعدنا على صفاء ذهننا و هدوءنا

كم هو رائع!

قد اختلف معه فقط في نقطة بسيطة و هي ان البسطاء لا اتوقع بانهم يشعرون بالرضا و السعادة اذا حقق الاخرون ما كانوا هم يريدون تحقيقه

كتاب يستحق القراءة فعلا، لشخص يستحق المتابعة
