Ashley If the movie existed on its own (without the awesome books to reference), would anyone here like the movie as is?

Ashley Oh good, I'm really glad to hear that! I thought the film was great, and after listening to the director's audio commentary it became much clearer why the film ended up as it did.

I also think that it's a stunning film visually, so maybe that's where some of the appeal lies for me.

Lastly, I read something awhile back which suggested that an animated version of the stories was another possible alternative to the live action film. If it's true than that would be pretty cool because maybe they could include the next ten books that were not included in the movie.

Monica Stoddard I would love to see more movies :)

Dakota (seareader) I was somewhat satisfied with the movie. I'm not a big Jim Carey fan, but Emily Browning is wonderful.

Christina I think that the movie didn't followed the books BUT this couldn't be possible as there are 13 books and so little time to include all the facts in a couple of hours...
Meryl Streep and Emily Browning were great in their roles:)
Even if I am not a Jim Carey fan he put something extra on his role as Count Olaf!

Matt Ojennus From what I remember the movie does a bit of a mashup of the first three books. I think it did a good job in the matching the tone of the books.

NOW I have to go find my dvd of it. (Just so you don't think I'm a philistine, I am looking to my closet of books & the books are right at eye level.)

Kayla Macneille | 1 comments I know I'm a little late in posting, but I just joined the group! The first time I wasn't a huge fan of the movie but I just watched it again recently and LOVED IT! I think I was just sad when it ended! I totally agree that they should make more movies and combine the books in them. Loved the casting and the whole tone of the book!

Nika | 2 comments I didn't even know there were books until a few years ago when I found them in my library. I still love the movie though

Buster (sportylikeatuna) | 1 comments I enjoy the movie but I don't like Jim Carey. I think that if they had cast Christopher Lloyd instead they would have been able to keep him menacing even when he was funny. Meryl Streep was perfect though.

Nika | 2 comments Why doesn't anybody like Jim Carrey? Am I missing something here?
