Jennifer Melzer (jennymelzer) | 38 comments I just finished reading A Clash of Kings yesterday and I still loved it, but I loved A Game of Thrones much more. One of the things I really enjoyed was the continual development of Tyrion Lannister. He grew on me like I never imagined and now I can't wait to read A Storm of Swords.

I posted a review on my site and here on Goodreads if anyone's interested in hearing what I had to say. Unfortunately I have to read a couple books I was asked to review before I can dive into A Storm of Swords. A few friends have said ASoS was their absolute favorite book so far.

Clark Coston (tesko) | 44 comments That's a good review. A few weeks ago, I finished my first REread of ACoK, and I must say that the book really shines after reading the others. There is so much foreshadowing and prophecy and setting-up that you aren't likely to pick up the first time through.

Jennifer Melzer (jennymelzer) | 38 comments I'm looking forward to going back after I've finished and rereading the series again. I haven't enjoyed a series this much in years.

Jennifer I totally agree. I picked up AGoT for the first time in February and the series has captivated me. I am just finishing ASoS and think that it is the most brutal of the series so far but that hasn't made me love it less. I am waiting to start AFfC until right before ADwD comes out so I don't have to wait (like everyone has who read the books as they were published) but I am on pins and needles thinking about those June-July reads waiting for me.

Such a great series. I too am holding off on AFfC until ADwD comes out, just want to be able to have some flow to the series, plus, when I finished ASoS, they had not released the date for ADwD yet. Anyways, wanted to mention a cool website, if you have not already found it, It provides a short synopsis of each chapter of each book. Really a cool way to catch back up with out rereading, although, rereading can be fun too. Have fun!

Also... Tower of the Hand allows you to set scope (meaning the last book in the series you have FINISHED) so that you don't go looking around the site and find too many spoilers.

Make sure you are not running off to pages you shouldn't be if you haven't finished the series. I already accidentally found a spoiler or two in the Forums section titles and a few other places on the Internet.

I really like Tower of the Hand for its ability to let you look up characters mid-book without ruining things.

Only problem is you have to reset scope every time you come back to the page and there are certain things not covered by scope.

Make sure you reading that link I included so you understand how scope works and what it covers (and doesn't cover... like the discussions at the bottom of the character pages).

Good luck!

Mark (markzaku) I hope you enjoy A Storm of Swords, Jennifer.

It's my favorite book in the series (so far, at least!), and I think it's widely considered to be the best/favorite by a majority of fans as well.

I'm envious of your ability to be reading it for the first time. :p

Dustin Hi, everyone!

I'm Dustin, and I absolutely LOVE this epic series. It's like nothing else I've encountered. A friend of my turned me onto it a few years ago, and I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Book V every since. Man, it's been a long wait...but not as long as those that read them as they were published!

Jennifer Melzer (jennymelzer) | 38 comments Hi Dustin! I feel really fortunate that I started so late into the series because I haven't had to wait for each book to come out, but I imagine I'm going to be waiting with a very sad face for books six and seven.

Mark, I absolutely cannot wait to start ASoS. I will share my review after I finish for anyone interested. Everyone I know has said ASoS is their absolute favorite, so I'm giddy with anticipation.

J.R. Tomlin (jrtomlin) | 16 comments I have to agree with Mark that Storm of Swords is my favorite, which says a lot considering how much I love GoT.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1113 comments I really don't have a favorite book.

message 12: by Tacuazin (new)

Tacuazin | 27 comments I went throught the 4 books so fast, one right after the other, that I cannot say anymore where one finishes and the next one starts. Hence, I cannot have a favourite either. In my mind, they all are like one river, flowing towards whatever GRRM has prepared for us, starving SoIaF yonkies.

Hi, Jenner!
Will there be six or seven books to the series?

Tacuazin- I'm the same way, I read the series back-to-back, and I flew through all of them, so I don't really have a preference. But I have a strong feeling that ADWD will top then all!

Jennifer Melzer (jennymelzer) | 38 comments Dustin, there are going to be seven books, from what I've gathered. There was some confusion about whether or not there would be seven or eight because books four and five were originally one book split into two, but Martin says there will still be seven books.

Dustin Thank you, Jennifer!
That is FANTASTIC NEWS.

Tacuazin | 27 comments Dunno... Getting to read A Dance with Dragons is going to be a challenge, though. My strategy is the following: buy it the moment it is released (allegedly, on July 12th), and then let it brew while I take my time savoring the series again, remembering past battles, betrayals and all that fun stuff. It will be my humble revenge.

message 18: by Mark (new)

Mark (markzaku) Yeah, seven books have been planned for years now:

* A Dance with Dragons (Book 5, due out this July)

* The Winds of Winter (Book 6)

* A Dream of Spring (Book 7, originally titled A Time for Wolves)

I strongly encourage any fans (new or old!) of ASoIaF to check out The Hedge Knight series as well if they haven't already -- there's been three novellas released so far. All of which are set roughly ~100 years before A Game of Thrones begins, with the Targaryens still sitting the Iron Throne.

I totally agree. I think of the four books as one as far as plot.
