If you have authored one book or many, please post some information about them here.

Maybe you could add a short description, a picture and a link to the book(s) on Goodreads or your personal website.

Every style and genre is welcome.

John Lawson (witchember) Witch Ember

In the days when gods walked the earth and the
clay of Man was still wet, a Stone of Power was
shattered. From that day forward, all humankind
carried a piece. Most have just a little--just
the tiniest speck of dust--but some have one
of the bigger grains--or even a pebble--and
they are the most powerful of sorcerers.

In the paranoid, magically-barren lands of the
Seven Kingdoms, the street urchin Esmeree is
born to carry a stone of unprecedented size
and power. As she struggles to survive the
unforgiving streets of Cliffs Reach, she
endeavors to master the sorcery of her stone
and understand its purpose. But time is
running out for her for others have discovered
her skills and seek to use or destroy her. The
Inquisition, the Superbus Tyrannus, the
Primate of the Holy Median church. Esmeree must
determine her own path, or she will die their
slave.

John Lawson (witchember) The Raven

Guiromelans is a knight, a sacred paladin,
seeking nothing more than to obey the
commandments of God. But when God betrays him
and allows a hells-condemned witch to defeat
him in battle, he is forced to reexamine his
faith. What did he do to merit such disgrace?
What can he do to atone for his sins?

Facing challenges both of the flesh and of the
soul, Guiromelans begins a pilgrimage across
the known world. In search of redemption and
forgiveness, he discovers the true meaning of
God's will.

The Raven is the sequel to John Lawson's first
novel, Witch Ember.

message 5: by Rowena (new)

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 12 comments Hello, Bobbie,

Thank you for starting this group and topic.

I am a GoodReads author and I've written three full length novels and one novella (or short story) which is only available as an e-book, and since Amazon doesn't carry it, it's not on GoodReads.

The short story is "Mating Net". It's a prequel written after Forced Mate (my debut novel) was published, and is about the Forced Mate hero and heroine's grandparents.

Mating Net is only 58 pages. Don't pay more than $2.50 for it! http://www.newconceptspublishing.com/...

"Forced Mate" is available as an e-book from http://www.ebookisle.net and also as a paperback.

It is a gentle, humorous spoof of the historical abduction romance genre, except the abductor is an alien god-Prince --Tarrant-Arragon (his name is supposed to make you think of "tyrant" and "arrogant")-- and the love of his life is Djinni-vera which follows the same grammar as Aloe Vera, to mean "true-djinn".

I didn't feel that the same joke would work for a sequel, so "Insufficient Mating Material" is a serious action/adventure Romance… but still humorous. The principle couple is Djetth and Princess "Marsh".

In Forced Mate, the mischief-making Princess Martia-Djulia (pronounced Marsha-Julia) decided to go to bed with an unsuitable stranger. She thought that the tall, scarred and blond-haired Commander Jason was inferior to her in every possible way… including genetically.

"Safe sex" was much more dangerous than she imagined, and her brother decides that a royal shotgun wedding is necessary to preempt a potential scandal. The ceremony is a fiasco, and a senior member of the royal family decides that the most elegant solution to his problems would be to kill Princess Marsh and her reluctant bridegroom.

'Rhett intrigued many readers in "Forced Mate" (as the heroine's protective half-brother) and in "Insufficient Mating Material" (as the hero's disapproving half-brother).

"Knight's Fork" is 'Rhett's story. He has taken vows of chastity, but everyone believes that he has a sordid sexy secret, and they all want to know who she is.

I apologize, Bobbie, but I don't know how to add pictures.

Sean (svlehosit) Hey, I like this topic too! I am an avid blogger and wrote a novella entitled Lucifer and Lacious. Here's some information about it:

“The underworld is a place where few men intend to arrive. When a man pictures death, he pictures blue clouds and golden gates…the underworld does not have blue clouds but fog of ash that rises from the misery of men. There are no golden gates, only rusty fences circling pools of human waste. You do not hear children’s laughter but the screams of guilty souls. Yes, this is the underworld.”

This is the reality that faces our nameless protagonist, soon to be known as Slave, as he wakes to find himself face to face with grotesque demons and unimaginable abuse at their hands. Still, while he is unable to recall his name or how he came to be there, the numbers that Lucifer carves into his forehead seem to clue everyone else – demons and damned alike – that he is somehow special.

Lucifer and Lacious weaves an imaginative journey through the pits of hell as Slave strives to elude the others’ evil intentions for him while trying to regain his memory and achieve his true purpose.

There's currently 1 left in stock on Amazon.com and it can be special ordered by walking into Walden Books.

message 17: by Hertzan (new)

Hertzan Chimera (hertzanchimera) Hello everyone,
yes, I've had books published for the last twenty years on and off. They're mostly non-mainstream or 'genreclectic'. My two most recent books (all on Goodreads) are from Silverthought Press in New York and go a little something like this:

BUKKAKEWORLD (novel)
When you’re drowning in the corporate world, you’ll need a mentor to keep you from going under.

Bukkakeworld is the conscious evolution of the staid three-act narrative horror genre. It’s a book about YOU, the corporate lackey, the indentured, the subordinate. Stuck in a job you cannot stomach, under a manager you want to annihilate, in a corporation that wants to grind you into nothing more than human grease to lubricate its inhuman profit-making machine.

You are not alone. There are literally millions of you all over the world, the true Samaritans of contemporary democracy. You take it in the face every working day of your life. There seems to be no respite from your suffering, no reward for your hardship. But even in the depths of your drowning desperation, there is a light, a tiny light, beaming out to save you.

She looks nothing like you. She is clean and tidy. The constant drizzle that rots everything it touches doesn’t seem to settle on her. She has a light in her eyes, like a terrorist bomb exploding very, very slowly. Frame by frame, a new star blooming. She is your corporate messiah. But who is her little furry companion, Kitten? And what of the sinister chrome-like Glimpsers? How do they tie in to a swirling narrative that drags you through a death camp of corporate revelation?

Bukkakeworld is a savage indictment of the corporate mentality, a challenging, twisted book that assails the underpinnings of modern society and does so much more than spit in your face.

PLANET OF THE OWLS (novel)
The world is coming to an end, and the angels don’t give a damn.

Oxford, England: Marcus (who works part-time at the falafel kiosk in town) awakens to find a giant black and white bird at his window. He’s sure that’s what he sees: a giant bird with feathers that throb with sinister portent. He shakes himself awake and gets ready for work, unaware that his world no longer exists.

Beijing, China: Su-Ki Chin (a fourteen-year-old schoolgirl) stands at the bus stop with her schoolmates, but their bus never arrives. Returning home, she finds the family chickens have gone berserk, chasing her brothers around the yard and leaving her parents for dead. It’s like she’s in a dream—the chickens tower over her terrified brothers. She will soon become one of those hybrid birds.

Planet of the Owls, a new genreclectic novel by UK-based artist/writer Mike Philbin, is a split-narrative story that tells of the time-and-space traveling powers of the Gods who have finally arrived on planet Earth in the guise of birds: robins, crows, magpies and owls. An age-old political conspiracy is revealed among the angel clan, and mankind becomes its innocent victim.

The fate of the Earth lies with Marcus and Su-Ki Chin—only their extra-species love can save a planet about to be abandoned by the Gods.

Planet of the Owls is a radical new interpretation of ‘spirituality’ as seen from a higher dimension.

Kate | 1 comments There are so many fascinating authors on goodreads! I'm a novelist, poet and memoirist.

My novel comes out in 4 DAYS! It's called FOR THE MAY QUEEN and it's about a young woman's first year away from home, living in the dorms. Here's a blurb from another goodreads author:

"Evans' debut novel . . . is a compelling coming of age story. Through a first person narrative that is as intimate and engaging as the finest memoir, Evans takes the reader on the humorous and chaotic journey of spirited Norma Rogers as she navigates her first year of college. Evans skillfully reminds us all of what it means to be young, questioning, and prone to get a lot wrong on our way toward an adulthood where we know ourselves--and those around us--- just a little better." — Jayne Pupek, author of Tomato Girl

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 12 comments Ladies and Gentlemen,

As authors, how do you feel about GoodReads lopping off your articles?

If my title began with an "A" or a "The" I would be jolly upset if the book was catalogued according to the first letter of the next word.

Is it a non-issue?

message 25: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 28 comments I'm a reader and reviewer, not an author. Even as such, I wouldn't like it if GR completely removed articles from the titles of books, but as far as I know cataloging by the first letter of the second word when an article comes first is just proper alphabetizing procedure.

My husband and I solved this problem on my review website by having the article show up last in the title (eg: Woman of Virtue, A) in all alphabetized lists and then having the titles show up as written in all other places such as series lists and reviews.

I'm not sure how others feel about it, but that's my take on it.

It would not sit well with me to be quite honest. I don't like people messing with my work.

If they are playing 'god' and or being intrusive with their editing and so on, I would be very displeased. However, some sites do things a certain way and if it is their standard format, there is not a whole lot that I would be able to do.

Illustration 101: Streetwise Tactics for Surviving as a Freelance Illustrator

Hi Everyone!

I've been a freelance illustrator for over 25 years and I'm the author of Illustration 101, a guide for anyone freelancing in the visual arts.

I also seem to have several forthcoming books. I recently spent seven years in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland and have written a travel book about my 'adventures' there and am currently negotiating the rights with a London publisher and should hopefully see a June 2009 publication date. I'll keep you all posted.

I am also working on a new marketing book for publication in early 2009 and I have a collection of humorous verse that I'll eventually finish, hopefully available in 2009 again. Title for this one is My Rubber Hebrew Nose.

I also have some books of art, most of which are now out of print, but you can get the most recent one from my website at http://www.scratchmann.co.uk/carnival... (scroll down to the bottom of this page!)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a hazy memory from when I did the basic course in librarianship at university that removing A or The in a title was the correct form of indexing, thus The Cherry orchard should be correctly indexed as Cherry Orchard, The. Surely most people would be able to work it out?

The headline in the small town newspaper read Young Woman Missing, Presumed Dead or Worse.

Leigh Lawson returned to Nags Head, North Carolina after four years with a huge shock. That big and bold headline was about her! Everyone thought she was dead!

The truth was that she was doing well. While gone, she had gotten clean from drugs and worked hard to get her bachelor’s degree in engineering. With her life back on track, she returns home in hope that she will receive a warm welcome. Instead, she gets the townsfolks' disdain.

Everyone hates her, everyone except Jason Altarez, an ambitious and resilient reporter with his sights locked on Leigh. He chases her with oozing charm and romance, but does he really want her or is he after his next story?

Leigh’s life soon spirals out of control when the police recruit her for an undercover assignment. They want her to go back to the life of her troubled teenage years, back into the drugs, and help them to bring the local drug supplier to conviction. It may be Leigh’s only chance to redeem herself with her family and friends. If she can complete this one assignment, the town will forgive her. The only problem is that she needs to figure out how to stay alive in the process…

Jason is her continuous partner through it all, proving his dedication to her as he struggles to keep her safe. Leigh wants to believe he is a man of his word. She wants to believe that her heart isn’t completely foolish for falling for him, especially when she discovers evidence that Jason may be working for the very drug dealer that Leigh is trying to have arrested. Will he betray her in the end or will he demonstrate the most romantic notion of all – that love at first sight truly exists?

In 1636, the last blood sorceress was burned at the stake. More than two hundred years later, her blood servant Jax has found her successor. Amanusa at first turns down the opportunity to learn what she perceives as an evil art, but she craves justice.

When Amanusa looses magic on those who've harmed her, she must flee for her life across a devastated Europe with Jax, who is inescapably bound to her by blood and magic. Their journey takes them through zones where everything--including magic--has died. Zones populated with strange creatures cobbled together from things left behind by the dead.

Needing each other for their very survival, Amanusa and Jax grow ever closer on their journey to discover answers--about magic, blood sorcery, the dead zones, and even love.

Thomas Wilson (StorytellerTDW) I published my first e-book in January 2011.
"Whisper"
The crew of the USS Whisper tries to get back to their rightful place in time after accidently being sent into the past over 200 years while testing a device to make the ship invisible. Captain Wiley Randolph and his crew fight against time, a 200 year old frigate, a Japanese Zero, and a German Wolf Pack of submarines.
It's my first book, slightly rough, slow to start, but have heard repeatedly that once people started it they couldn't put it down until the end. It has an average 4 star rating out of five across numerous sites. Not bad for a first book.

David Maine | 10 comments Hi everybody,

I have several books published. My first three are literary fiction, alternative takes on Bible stories. I try to be respectful of the source material and yet inquisitive at the same time (what was life really like on the Ark? I order of publication:

The Preservationist by David Maine About Noah and his family and the ark

Fallen by David Maine About Abel and Cain, Eve and Adam

The Book of Samson by David Maine About Samson (d'Oh!)

I then switched gears and wrote a twisted pastiche of 1950s monster movies:

Monster, 1959 by David Maine

My latest project is my take on the epic fantasy genre. Beginning with this book, I'm starting a multi-volume saga called The Chronicles of Avin:

The Gamble of the Godless by David Maine

This is a story that has plenty of fantasy elements (sorcery, tlaking animals, an imaginary world) but dispenses with some of the more tired tropes (brave heroes, elves and dwarves and orcs and dragons) in favor of a more inventive range of characters and situations. It's available as an eBook exclusive from most online book vendors.

Beth Hi,
I just joined the group, per Bobbie's invitation. I am a mystery author, writing two series, the Claire Hanover gift basket designer series, and the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventures series. Here are my books:

Deadly Currents
The first book in my new Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventures mystery series starring Mandy Tanner, a whitewater river ranger, was released in trade paperback and ebook in March, 2011. When Mandy rescues a man who fell out of a raft on the upper Arkansas River in Colorado and he dies on the river bank, she feels driven to find out what—or who—killed him. The second in the series, Wicked Eddies, will be released in May, 2012.

"Groundwater (To Hell in a Handbasket, 2009, etc.) kicks off a new series that combines outdoor action with more than a modicum of old-fashioned detection."
-- Kirkus Reviews, January 15, 2011

"Groundwater's novel is filled with river lore, vivid descriptions, and loving depictions of the varied characters who make up the tight-knit community."
-- Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, June, 2011

A Real Basket Case
When police accuse the husband of a Colorado Springs gift basket designer of killing her massage therapist, she becomes a bumbling amateur sleuth. Will she free her husband and save her marriage before the killer gets her next? Released in hardcover in 2007 and to be re-released in trade paperback and e-book on November 8, 2011.

"This will appeal to Desperate Housewives fans and those who like cozies with a bit of spice."
-- Booklist Review, February 1, 2007

"Drugs and jealousy add up to a Rocky Mountain murder. A tense, exciting debut."
-- Kirkus Review, January 1, 2007

To Hell in a Handbasket
In this sequel to A Real Basket Case released in hardcover in 2009, Colorado Springs gift basket designer Claire Hanover takes a spring ski vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado, with her family. The vacation quickly goes to hell in a handbasket when the sister of her daughter's boyfriend is killed on the ski slope. To be re-released in trade paperback and ebook in fall, 2012.

"Groundwater's second leaves the bunny slope behind, offering some genuine black-diamond thrills."
-- Kirkus Review, April 1, 2009

Thomas Wilson (StorytellerTDW) Hi everyone, I am a very new author who just published my second novel August 31, 2011.
"No Rules Of Engagement"
One of my favorite books has always been "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, but I always had some problems with it, one the author Card was not a soldier, and war fare is deception, A great military leader wouldn't be hoodwinked or fooled!!
The other motivation was our society has been based off war fare since the dawn of time, what would a society be like that was entirely peaceful, who never developed the fight or flight response? What happens when that group meets a culture like ours? Or Worse? That started the first of three novels in an Epic story, the first one is finished! No Rules of Engagement has only got 14 copies out in the world at this point, and one review, a 5 of 5 coming out of the gates!! I am currently writing the sequels to my first and second book, two different series with the only common thread is time traveling!
Thank You for letting me share, Happy reading.
GOD I LOVE THIS SITE ! ! !
