I'm totally in your hands on this one, although I would like us to at least consider reading some poetry. Some Eliot or Heaney perhaps. Alternatively, we could have a go at some drama - Pinter or Fo spring to mind.

Whatever we decide to read I do hope we can generate more discussion of what we are reading.

Hmm.. a Hesse, yes I remember being very taken with The Glass Bead Game and I have one or other books by Hesse on my shelves looking dolefully at me, almost pleading for me to read them.

Valerie (another_one_bites_the_dust) I agree with Bruce, that we should try something like Pinter. Maybe either Mountain Language, War Poetry or Ashes to Ashes???

I think Pinter would be an excellent choice. I'm ashamed to admit as a Brit, that I know little of Pinter's work. The only play of his that I've seen in performance is The Caretaker, and that was a very long time ago.

Valerie (another_one_bites_the_dust) So far the ones that seem interesting, besides Ashes to Ashes, are:
"Moonlight"
"Betrayal"
"Various Voices: prose, poetry, politics"

There's also one by Pinter that's called "Death etc.".

I detect a gradual consensus forming around Harold Pinter as our next group read. Are there any other nominations before I put up a poll to select which Pinter at the weekend?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, the poll is created and will open later today. The only thing that worrys me is how available are Pinter's works generally?

Lauli I read The Caretaker and The Dumb Waiter, and loved them both.

The Betrayal seems to be the clear winner and that will be our next read starting on May 15th. Thanks to everyone who voted and I look forward to reading our selection.
