Hi everyone! I'm opening the nominations for the next group reading so go ahead and nominate your favourite. The nomination will be closed on 10th of May. The polling will start after that with your choices.

I'm going to add War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy I close the posting for the current discussions because there is no discussion leader and that might have drained the member's enthusiasm.

It looks like we will be doing a group reading discussion one every two months and I too voted for it because it seems like a more realistic plan as others agree. The new members make sure you cast your vote for your choice.

Remember, everyone can share your thoughts. If you are reading it for the first time or someone already thorough with it, doesn't matter, the more the merrier!

So Start.... NOW!

Damion (minimaul) The Master and Margarita.

Amyjzed | 45 comments I'll go with The Master and Margarita, too.

Valerie (another_one_bites_the_dust) Has anyone that re-nominated The Master and Margarita read it already? I'm just curious because up til recently I wasn't even aware of it at all :(

message 7: by Damion (new)

Damion (minimaul) I haven't read it. But it's sitting on my shelf happily waiting to be read.

Maurizio (matemati) I've already read 'Crime and Punishment' so I could vote for it to avoid the trouble of reading but it wouldn't be fair LoL
It's a very good book anyway.

Seriously, Master and Margarita intrigues me too, so I'm in for it.

I'd like to read something by Gogol, as his works are not only supposedly great, but also satirical and presumably, therefore, humorous. Nothing specific, but of course Dead Souls is a safe bet.

ooh I like this! I started to read The Master and Margarita once but never got to finish it.

I thought of nominating Dead Souls myself Logan but I stuck with War and Peace because it came to abrupt end last time. I always found the name to be ironic because Gogol himself became a "dead soul" after it. Poor genius! I do wonder what that priest told him to make him burn the second part of it. No wonder he fell into a depression. Similar thing happened to Thomas Hardy after publishing Jude the Obscure.

Valerie (another_one_bites_the_dust) "Dead Souls" was suppose to have three parts to it in total. Rumor circulated that Gogol actually finished the second part, but then torched it. It makes me curious as to what he might have intended it to be like as a whole. Did he bring an end to his characters? What happened?!

Alas, we shall never know :(

Александр Пушкин is an author I am not especially familiar with. Obviously he only wrote one novel, Eugene Onegin, but that could be an especially interesting read to pick apart, seeing as it is in verse and those of us who know or know something of Russian would be of good use. My two votes stand firmly for Dead Souls and Eugene Onegin, therefore.

I've not read The Master and Margarita, but it is coming up as a title in another book group next month and I am excited to read it. I figured if The Master and Margarita gets picked for June here I would have time to read both it and Lolita. I just joined this group and may not get done with Lolita by mid-May.

Robert (robtbower) I started Master and Margarita some time ago, but it got bumped out of the queue, so I did not finish. I thought it started off pretty good and would go for it again.

War and Peace is way too much for me to take on at the beginning of summer!
