In answer to Jessica's question: Merriwether Lewis and William Clark, and I think their dog's name was Seaman but I'm not positive. Oh, and Toussaint Charbonneau, the trader who was married to Sacagawea.

And while the external ear is made of cartilage, there are three tiny bones inside. The only one I can remember is the stirrup.
