Welcome to the new section of our discussion board!

We were thinking that it would be nice to have a place for discussions of specific books within the group. A discussion functionality is available here on GR, but this is a little more flexible.

Here's how it will work:

In order to start a thread for a book, there should be at least two interested participants. That will keep us from having threads that never get off the ground.

There will be a "suggestion" thread, in which you can post a book you're interested in discussing. If anyone else is interested in discussing that book, go ahead and start the thread.

You don't need to use the suggestion thread, it's just for convenience. Sometimes the discussion idea comes up in another thread, and that's fine too. If you've already got someone to discuss a book with, just go ahead and start your book thread.

There will also be a "Buddy Read" thread, where people who just want to read together and discuss amongst themselves can find reading buddies. This is good for those who would prefer to discuss books via PM or otherwise.

Last but not least, there will be a "Discussions Off-Group" thread. Here you can post book discussions that you are involved in that are taking place in other GR groups or on other sites - ie, "Over in this Fantasy group/site we are discussing Book X by Author Y. Here is a link: www.mothersagainstsparklyvampires.com".

Just a few things that sound like rules but are really just suggestions:

> Be aware that thread participants may be in various places in the book, and even liberal use of the spoiler tag may not avoid them completely. However, you can set the tone for a thread you start by updating the first post as you progress - ie, "Status: We are up to Chapter 16 right now - please don't give away the ending!" This will keep others from accidentally spoiling the ending, and it will also allow newcomers to see where things are so they don't accidentally spoil it for themselves. Not mandatory, of course, but helpful.

>If the book is part of a series, please do not refer to events in later books. I would say that events in previous books are okay, though. I realize that not everyone reads series books in order, but since ongoing storylines are generally important to the series, it would be hard to limit discussion to only the current book being discussed. You can start a thread to encompass an entire series, just try to make sure that the thread title is clear on that point, and the first post indicates it as well.

> You can also discuss an author instead of a specific book.

>Anyone is free to join in any discussion. Even if a thread goes quiet for a while, anyone is free to revive it at any time if they would like to get conversation going about that book again.

That's about it! If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, post them below.
