Leslie | 95 comments do you own or have in your possession that you haven't read? When trying to decide my next read today I added mine up. It was higher than I thought but lower than the number I always throw out. I always say "I must have 100 books I haven't read." As it turns out it's 81 that I haven't read. 5-10 are borrowed.

Is my number ridiculous or low maybe compared to fellow addicts on here?

Please tell me! And also-tell me what to read next!

Happy royal wedding weekend all.

Leslie

Mary | 236 comments I haven't counted (I don't dare!), but I've got you beat by a LOT. Your number sounds like a comfortably reasonable amount to me. Like I've said before, I'll need several more lifetimes. ;-( My most recent A+ was Lisa Genova's LEFT NEGLECTED, so that's my recommendation. I'm LOVING this royal wedding day! My feeling is that it's a great day for the Brits and really the whole world. We need more hope and happiness to offset all the suffering and negativity in our world!

Carol (actutor) I'm afraid to count mine! The e-reader the kids gave me has 100 classics, so I should TRY TO weed out the hard copies I own.

The wedding was stupendous. I didn't watch much of it, but I love the rituals of the British nobility.

Elise After moving about a year ago, I weeded my shelves heavily and got rid of anything I thought I'd probably never read. I'd guess I still have about 50 books TBR, but not as many as I once had! I'd get them read if there weren't so many new books coming out all the time that I get excited about!

message 5: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments The new ones coming out all the time are definitely the main impediment to whittling down the ones we already have. I keep hearing about the cutbacks in not only bookstores, but also books being published. I'm sure not experiencing any drought in that area, myself. My favorites keep churning them out, possibly a little more slowly, but there's still no way I can keep up with those I want to read most.

message 6: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I have 358 books on my shelf (ereader/audio included) in my home TBR. Does not count the 42 on wish list.

Saw Bumped and Fourth Hand on you TBR shelf Leslie. I haven't read those but are two I'd like to read.

Will you be putting all 81 books on your TBR shelf here at goodreads?

message 7: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 95 comments Oh my goodness Gretchen!! That's amazing! I think my number is more in the 90's because I have some coming in the mail and a bag or so in my car that I don't even know what it is. So I'm probably closer to that 100. I will put them on here gradually. It'd be nice to have a concrete list. So far most of the ones on my TBR list on here at least, are just random ones I want to read. I guess those should go on wishlist? Or can they still be on TBR list? I'm confused. Either way I will definitely be adding them a few @ a time! I got the Rob Lowe audio with my other audible credit the other day and if I ever finish Tina Fey he will be next! I do own The Fourth Hand-I really like John Irving. Owen Meany is my favorite book. But somehow I've only read that one, Cider House (loved) and World According to Garp. (liked)

message 8: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Leslie I know I'm sick. There are more coming every week!! I mean I realize they will always be there to buy, check out from library, get from PBS. However, I have to have them now???

Anyway, I put my wish list books on my TBR shelf too.

I'm trying to recall which John Irving's I've read. Cider House Rules and Owen Meany. I have Forth Hand and Last Night In Twisted River. Think Irving takes a commitment to read.

message 9: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 95 comments He really does. Cider House Rules and Owen Meany took me forever to read even though I loved them. I kinda wanna read "Hotel New Hampshire" next by him because it's supposed to be kinda creepy.

I'm sucked into the ya "Mortal Instruments" trilogy right now though. It's no Hunger Games but is pretty entertaining. I needed something light after "Harbour"

Oh, Leslie, you just opened up a can of worms. Since I just packed I know that that I have over 300. I donated 100 befoe I left that I knew I wouldn't read. It's a continuous cycle with PBS and new releases!

message 11: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) I'm probably up there with you, Gretchen; I actually have no idea because everything's in boxes right now. I have over 200 on my Kindle. I'm trying to rein myself in, but haven't done a great job.

message 12: by Theresa (new)

Theresa None! I rarely buy books and the closest thing I have to a TBR is my holds at the library. The books I own are the ones I've already read and loved and wanted to be able to re-read on a whim.

message 13: by Elise (new)

Elise Ok, what was I thinking saying I only had 50 or so TBRs? Ha-ha! I think it's because my bookshelf has so much extra room on it that I totally misjudged the #. Ummm...it's more like 80 or 90. Forgot the ones on my kindle too--ok, let's just call it an even hundred!

~walks away muttering to myself that I'll never read all these books...~

message 14: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) Good question. I ought to count, but I think that would take forever. I'm going to estimate anywhere from 70 to 100. I buy books used 99% of the time. The only time I ever buy brand new is if I really, really want to read it immediately. That is rarely the case. I am willing to wait for most books, no matter how good they might be. Recent exceptions, however, have been The Passage, Columbine, Room, and A Discovery of Witches, though my mil treated me to The Passage (A-MAZING book), bought me Room as a birthday gift, and I used a gift card on A Discovery of Witches and have not read it yet. Columbine I wanted immediately, so I ordered it from Amazon as soon as I read about it and devoured it from the minute I opened the package. I don't regret paying full price for any of these new hardbacks. :)

Anyway, that was a total digression, but yeah, I own way, way too many books. I can only hope I can read them all in my lifetime! LOL

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments Thanks to GR I know that I have 131 books sitting on my shelves that I am yet to read, but considering it was well above 150 earlier this year I am definitely making progress. Should be done below 100 by Christmas after which it'll be going straight back up again...awesome!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have about 1100 books in my library that are unread! Nearly all are listed on Goodreads, there are a few that are old and not listed and some recent downloads (ebooks and audio) I still haven't added yet.
