Last month the author page have over 1750 unique visitors, and over 20,000 hits, yet the sales don't reflect the traffic. I need to figure out why.

I've been thinking lately about the design of my author site. Jenn Sprague (the Jen in chirenjenzie) is absolutely amazing at web design. She owns her own photography business in VA, and does design on the side. If you're looking for someone, you won't find a more dedicated person to the cause. Her philosophy is that she won't stop until you're completely satisfied. I love the look of the site, and the first time I saw the header I kept it up all day so that I could go back and look at it over and over. :-)

I say this because I don't think the "look" of the site is the problem...it's the content. I need to restructure it in a way that makes the viewer want to pick up a copy of the book. The first page use to have a blurb on the front about why I started writing. I've replaced that with reviews. The books page has changed as well, and the trailer now tops the synopsis with the cover still on the sidebar.

I need your opinions though...is this enough? If you found this site randomly, would you want to buy the book, or does this make me look like a narcissistic douche bag? And should I go ahead and link the trailer to the bottom of the front page? The top?

Be brutally honest. All thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Rachel (rachelharris) | 11 comments Hey there! This is probably completely unhelpful, but I have never been to your site before and I just went--and really really want to buy the book. For me right now the reason I can't is because of the price, but maybe next month. But seriously, that is the only thing keeping me from clicking the button because the reviews grabbed me immediately--and made me feel like I was missing out having not read it, the book page was perfect. The site was easy to navigate and understand. Really, I thought it completely worked. The only reason my visit didn't result in a sale strictly is a financial issue right now. Not helpful, I know, but maybe you can find something useful in my rambling?

Trisha Wolfe (twolfe) | 53 comments Beth, maybe you could list the ebook price on there? Becaseu Rachel does have a good point, 16 or so is pricey for most teens, and some adults (like me ;p) but if they see that the ebook is only 4.99 it might make them pause and consider.

Rachel (rachelharris) | 11 comments he he sure :-) I think a virtual cake may be the only kind allowed on my brand new stinking diet-blah lol.

Maeve Greyson (maevegreyson) Well first of all, my favorite color is purple - so you won me as soon as that delightful shade loaded on my browser. I found your site very crisp, fresh and easy on the eyes - something very important if you don't want readers to have to strain to enjoy your content. In a nutshell: WONDERMOUS!

:-)

Trisha Wolfe (twolfe) | 53 comments ;p Whatever. You can totally have cake on your Bday and I don't even think you need to be on a diet anyway. Girls *shakes head* You're HOT shake that thang!

So you think it would be better to advertise it as $11.99 on the website and then include 5 dollars for the shipping and handling?

And great suggestion on the price for the ebook! Thanks!

Trisha Wolfe (twolfe) | 53 comments Is it 5 dollars shipping everywhere? Where all is it available to buy from? I know I get free shipping at Barnes because I have a membership. If it's different shipping at different outlets I'd only list it at book price and let them figure in shipping later.

It's being shipped directly from me ... that's why I had free shipping. Figured I'd sell it at list price and eat the 4 bucks for shipping, and the reader would get a signed copy to boot. I can certainly make it lower on the site, but it always bites my buttons when I get to the end and the shipping/tax charge has added on 6 or 7 bucks. I feel jipped before I even get the thing. I'll have to contact paypal and see about putting a shipping charge on there. Hey, I'm getting things figured out ... I think. :-D

Trisha Wolfe (twolfe) | 53 comments Oh, well if you're shipping it then I'd leave the price as is and leave it free shipping. 16 bucks is the average list price on books. Maybe just try advertising the ebook price for a couple weeks and compare sales that way before marking down the price on the hard copy. Because I'm with you, I hate it too when they tack on so much for shipping. And you do have up there free shipping, so that is a plus =)
