How do you feel about City of Ashes so far?
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments Series #2) by Cassandra Clare
I hated Valentine for what he told Jace and Clary in City of Bones. It just kind of made everything I loved about those to shift into this weird place. Clary already has enough problems with her mom.

Be Happy | 3 comments I think so, too. What do you think about Clary and Simon?

I'm glad that they tried a relationship so that they could get it out of their system, but Clary will always love Jace and everyone knows it.

Be Happy | 3 comments Yes of course, Clary and Jace belong to each other! Cassandra Clare made that clear enough :)

Shaina | 42 comments exactly, there was no way that simon and clary could work out. her heart just wasnt in it.

I know, but poor Simon thought it would actually work out.

Shaina | 42 comments yeah, i know it sounds bad but everyone is always saying how much they love Simon, but I for one don't find him all that relatable or appealing :(

That's reasonable.

Love_books | 23 comments i liked it how simon ended their romantic relationship seeing as it wont work out it showed that he wasnt blind and it didnt conflict their best-friend relationship either which if u ask me is a total bonus it really wouldve mess stuff up if they held some kinda grudge against each other

I think that's why a bunch of people love him because he's such a good guy.

Tara (taterbeans) didnt like the book!!!! its very rare for me not to like a second book as much as the frist, but it was in such a weird place. dont like simon, never did. just like a jacob from twilight. still love the series and characters, just could have done without this book.

really? I think you are the first person I have heard say this! Not a bad thing, because it definetly wasn't the best in the series by far, but I still thought it was interesting and answered questions, but started even more!!

haha i know!!!! i didnt hate it it just wasnt doing it for me. still love the series!!!! but i read the book earlier this year and dont remember much. i have a tendency when i read a series really quick, that they all just jumble together.

I was talking about the series with my friend today (she just started city of ashes), and she really reminded me of what I was thinking when I was reading this book. While I was reading this book, I was on two different teams. The first one was the 'incest is wrong' team. When I was on that one, I just kept judging Clary and thinking things like, "You need to get over that boy for the sake of your soul sweetie". The other one was the 'I love Clary and Jace together' team. When I was on that team, I just keep justifying their relationship and thought things like, "Maybe you guys aren't really brother and sister", "You guys are really good together", and "Just give into your desires".

As you can tell, I was really conflicted when I was reading this. I just kept going from team to team. Cassandra really pushed my limits. I try to be open minded, but there are just certain things that I can't be open minded about.

Sandy S This book and series are Young Adult genre, and I knew immediately, that the incest storyline wasn't possible. There were too many unknowns, too many what ifs, and of course, as the 'lead' characters, Miss Clare would never have used incest as a plotline that would have to be approached with caution and care, and enough psychoanlysis, it would have deflected from the main story. As it is, the 'incest' plot, will be addressed in another book.
