Lydia (loverofinformation) | 596 comments This book is apparently about to/or has been made into a movie. It is a rather powerful book about a 15-yr. old boy who studies hard to be accepted into one of the top high schools in NY. He thens starts to feel he is not good enough and recognizes the symptoms of clinical depression, His family (mother, father, and sister) are extremely supportive and seek help for him.

But one night, he just can't understand how he can go on and decides to commit suicide. However, before he does, he calls the Suicide Hotline where they instruct him to go to the nearest hospital. He does. And there begins his story of his five day stay.

The author also spent time in a hospital (he does not specify for what) and wrote this book in an amazing amount of time after he was discharged.

There is something in this book for most YAs. It also sends an extremely strong message, although I wonder about what a teen is to do without the sportiveness of a strong and cogent family structure. I can't help but remember my own depression, suicidal ideations and wonder if this could happen without the family structure.

Rita Webb (ritawebb) | 183 comments Wow, this sounds like a great book. Is the name of the book "It's Kind of a Funny Story"? Who is the author?

Julie S. When I read this book, I found it kind of annoying. I feel like there are better books that deal with the same theme, and this one just fell flat. I don't know...

Todd Tystad (toddrtystad) I loved the movie and I'd watch it again right now. However, I tried to read the book and I just couldn't get into it. Can anyone who has read it motivate me to forge onward?
