Thanks to Beth, I am adding a folder where members can post character studies on specific individuals if they so choose. As always, hopefully some of will learn something and an exciting discussion will ensue.

Melissa (rockstarninja) This could be a very interesting topic. Years ago I was going to write a paper for an english class but was told to change topics because the instructor felt it would not capture the theme for the paper she wanted written. . .I felt so strongly about the subject I still have my original proposal and outline because I was going to write the paper on my own just to have, but I never got around to it. Maybe this will make me get around to it. . here is the proposal

Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington
For my final research paper, I intend to learn about the life and times of Sir Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, along with a short explanation of why I find him to be such an intriguing figure. I will end with what I have determined to be evidence that will show he is the most important figure in British history.
I will first include any essential background information, his childhood, anything that may have prepared him for the greatness he eventually achieved. I will then discuss what make him such an important figure during the Napoleonic War, such as his becoming the very first Duke of Wellington. And finally, I will speak of his rise to political power after the war. Because of the nature of the paper, I will only include the important (i.e. relevant) names and dates.
After what I plan to be conclusive evidence, I will explain how all of the facts that I have just presented make him the most important figure in British history.

Feel free to discuss. . .

Can they be like historical characters from a fictional novel?

I was thinking they could be studies of fictional characters, as long as you mark the thread as such. Examples could be:
"Philippa Gregory's Anne Boleyn"
or "Catherine de Medici as shown by ..."
