Jane (janesteen) Just wondering who's reading The Emperor of All Maladies, who's reading The Ghost Map, and who's reading both! I'm reading both as I couldn't choose, which is fairly typical for me.

Tia | 4 comments I am reading the Ghost Map. Emperor of All Maladies had 100 holds at the library :).

message 3: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I'm reading Emperor of All Maladies. I've already read Ghost Map. I plan to drop in on the Ghost Map conversation a bit, but my focus is on Emperor. Really excited to talk about it!

message 4: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) I'm reading both since they were both of interest to me and I hadn't read either one before. For the next two group reads I've read one of the books in the recent months. Would it be better for me to reread them with the group or to just discuss what I remember?

In my opinion, either way would be great. Re-read if you have the time or inclination, but don't feel like you can't join in if you're not "reading along". Talking about the books from a little distance gives a different perspective on what's important or powerful.

Elizabeth (mortuivivosdocent) I'm waiting on Ghost Map from the library, and I'm looking forward to it! I'm also looking forward to Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. I loved that book.

Tim (tjb654) | 8 comments I plan to read Ghost Map, but may get a late start because I'm also working on The Information: A History, A Theory, A Flood. As Tia found, Emperor is in great demand in our library system.

message 8: by Jane (new)

Jane (janesteen) I ended up buying Emperor for my Kindle as there were too many holds at the library. Shows how large cancer looms in our lives today as so many people reach ages they would never have achieved even 100 years ago.

Bunnie O'hara | 210 comments jane,
i am reading the Emperor right now--i have read Ghost Map before but am reading it again at the same time.Emperor is a magnificant book-introducing people of the scientific world that i have never heard of before-it is an overall look at the many people involved in the quest for causes and cures.

Christy | 6 comments I'll be reading The Ghost Map, although I haven't had a chance to start it yet. I've been wrapped up in this fascinating book--A Chorus of Stones: The Private Life of War by Susan Griffin. I mention it here because although it's not exactly history of science, it's not exactly NOT history of science either, since it discusses many aspects of the development and aftermath of nuclear weapons, but always with an eye to the individual, to the overlooked parts of history and war. It's an unusual book, but very thought provoking.

Red | 5 comments I'm reading The Ghost Map since I've already read Emperor of All Maladies.

Emanuel Landeholm (elandeholm) | 2 comments I'm going to read Emperor. With luck I'll begin tonight. I just need to finish my current book.

message 14: by Jane (new)

Jane (janesteen) I am enjoying both books so much, I can't decide which one I like best. It's a little confusing switching between the two, though!

message 15: by Bunnie (new)

Bunnie O'hara | 210 comments jane,

i have the same problem- i have several of the books required here and can hardly wait to get to them--right now i am concentrating on Emperor and peeking occassionally into Ghost Map.
