Gail (wwwgoodreadscomgail303) | 9 comments Cold Vengeance is a new book scheduled to be released late summer of 2011. This will #2 in the Helen trilogy. I put my name on the list at my local library and was still the 4th one!

KansasOVGirly (mwkindlegrl) Can't wait. Rereading the whole series to get ready for it.

Bridget (bekeown) | 6 comments Went out in the middle of a downpour to get my copy yesterday. Finished it last night. All I have to say...

Oh. My. Lord.
Didn't see that one coming...

Gatorman | 28 comments Just downloaded it on my Nook and will start reading it tonight. Looking forward to it.

KansasOVGirly (mwkindlegrl) Is that "Oh My Lord" a good thing. This is on my wishlist. I still have the read the one previous one before I am ready to read this. Can't wait though. Love this series and the characters, all of them even the bad guys.

Bridget (bekeown) | 6 comments Hmmmm....
Thinking back on it, I probably should have seen it coming, but it was a genuinely surprised "Oh My Lord" than anything else. Very curious to see where we go from here. Poor AXLP!

Pamela Zimny | 3 comments I pre-ordered this on Amazon weeks ago, and it arrived in the mail two days ago. I finished it that same afternoon. I must have loved it because I couldn't put it down. But to see AXLP like that-- well, you'll have to read to see what you think. I like that we get so much of him in the book, and some characters from other novels, like Corrie Swanson, who makes an appearance as well. That makes this a fun read. BUT. WHAT. AN. ENDING. SHEESH. And that's all I'll say about THAT.

message 8: by Ezra (new)

Ezra Adams (ezraadams) | 2 comments I utterly enjoyed the book. While I enjoy AXLP's efforts to resolve his family's background - which makes him one of the most intriguing characters in modern literature - I'm looking forward to another straightforward case along the lines of "Still Life of Crows."

Corrie Swanson's development is masterful. I suspect a spinoff series may be fast approaching. I also applaud the general evolution of secondary characters - it's nice to see them again, and in a clearer light.

Gatorman | 28 comments I am about two-thirds through and although I like it, I am not loving it. Seems to be suffering from middle-book-in-trilogy syndrome. Unlike other comments I have read, I am not finding the characters to be all that interesting this time around, and Corrie is downright obnoxious and annoying as hell. Hopefully the ending is as good as people are saying.

Gatorman | 28 comments Just finished the book. Gave it 3 stars. Would have given it 3.5 if I could. Ended really well but meandered for too long a period to really get into it all that much. Nice cliffhanger finish to set up the final part of the Helen trilogy.

message 11: by Diane (new)

Diane | 2 comments Finished the book but think it could have been better. Felt it dragged on just to make it a trilogy!

message 12: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 28 comments Exactly. It suffers from "second book in trilogy" syndrome.

message 13: by Diane (new)

Diane | 2 comments Hate it when they drag out a plot line just to make and sell more books. Have to wait another year for the third of the Helen trilogy. Didn't like it when they did this in the Diogenes trilogy either.

message 14: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 28 comments Me, neither. A little more effort and the middle book could be interesting but it always seems to be the case that it just ends up as filler.

message 15: by Tiffanie (new)

Tiffanie | 22 comments I love the Pendergast books so much, but I must admint I did have a hard time getting to the end of this book. But the ending was good and I will be once again standing in line to by the next booke the day it comes out.

Kirby | 24 comments Yeah, I ended up skimming a lot of parts through this one...

message 17: by Al (new)

Al (oznob) Even though it has the middle book syndrome, it was not a bad read by any stretch of the imagination. Gatorman... I have watched the Relic a couple of times and while I still miss having it done in New York I am starting to become a fan of the movie... Plus Penelope Miller is pretty cool.....
