Contest 5: Short Story on a mythical creature of your choice.

I wish I had more than a 1000 words to write about Gale and Alexis. I was going to span it out over years, and then explain that he died, and when a merman dies, they are reincarnated into a seashell, which she finds on the beach and keeps near her heart....
I think way too much. :)

By the way, love the mention of Longford :) and the Buffy shadows...tres cool.

Half-light.
Shafts of light bled through the gaps in the blind; the sunlight illuminated everything in its path. Including the face of a girl who was ..."
- that was beautiful... u're a great writer

You can hear the rain drumming on the window, the wind that is blows against the window, the trees that is slams against the window. Under the covers lays a girl, her eyes are closed. The breath is slow.
At once she open eyes. She gets up, goes to the window. Determined. Put a hand against the window, her face and closes her eyes.
"Nick, where are you?" she says to the window. Then comes a face out of nowhere. He looks at her, you can see the longing in his eyes. The smile is not quite smile.
The girl opens her eyes. She doesn’t jump when she sees him. It's like she knows that he was there. Could hear it. She pulls up a smile when she looks at him.
She lift her hand to the lock on the window.
When the hand is on the lock, you can see that she is fighting against itself. Fighting against to open up the window. That is separating them.
"Nell, release me. It's cold outside." he says to her. She looks at him, but instead to open the window and let him in.. She backs away from the window. She shakes her head. Tears running down her cheek.
"I can`t." she whispered more to herself, and to him, but she knows that he can hear her. She can see it through her tears. Can see how his expression changes.
"You know I can get in without your help? There is nothing that stops me. NOTHING!" he yells to her
Tears is streaming down her face, you can see the fear in her eyes.
She doesn’t know what to do. Forget the boy who died, the boy who is out side of her window. "You`re dead! You can`t live. I saw it, I held you in my arms when I watch you died!" she cries out to him. She is back at the window, holding one hand against the window. He put his hand on hers. The only thing between then is the glass. She feels her knees is giving way. Feels how she slides down on the floor. She looks up at him. Can see his face against the window. Can see the blonde shaggy hair of his, remember how she always drag her finger through it. Can see the ocean-green eyes of his remember when he always look at her, she had the feeling that when see look at her. It was like he could see inside of her, like I could read her mind.
At once he is there in the room, he sits down beside her. Pulling her close to him. She feels the warmth of him coming from him, hear his heart beating. Feels his breath in her neck. She lies there only. The feelings is coming back, all of them at once. The longing for him. The love. She put her face against his chest, feeling the familiar smell of him. It's like everything falls into place. That gap finally is being filled, but then comes the evil reality is back in her mind. He's dead!
"Nick, go." She whispers and closes her eyes, can feel the tears as dots behind her eyes. Can feel her heart break a little more, don`t let him in .Can`t t let him into her heart again. Can`t.
"You`re dead." she whispers to herself. "No, I am not." he says after a few minutes off silence. His voice is calm, but you can hear the emotion in it. "Nick, I can`t. Go." she said without emotion. At once he disappears, knows the steady arms of his is gone. The heat is gone. The gap is back, bigger than ever. She looks up; you can see him sitting outside her window again. Can see emotion in his face, can see it in his eyes.
"I'll be back, but if that's what you want. I will go. When you want to talk to me. You know where I Am." he says and turns around. He jumps down from the window and goes from her house.
He turns and looks at the window. He sees she is stands there with tears in his eyes. He stands there and looks at her, waiting for her to shout his name. Pending, but nothing happens. Nothing. Finally, as he turns and begins to walk down the streets.
She just stands there, watching him disappear out of sight.
She opens her mouth to shout his name, but it`s like her voice is gone.
She can feel the feeling`s is a wave that finally took her back. For everything is coming back, it comes at once. Takes her breath away.
It hurts.
It was better when she known he was dead. She could go on, put it behind her. Now, now she knows that he is out there, waiting for her. Knows that he wouldn’t go before she is with him again, in death.
For how can she avoid a ghost? A ghost who is determined to have her forever and ever?
Not just a ghost, Nicholas Warren, the boy she loves.

Ghost stories are interesting, methinks. God, yours still gives me shivers.

Thank you, I think it is a little typo, since I wrote it a little too fast ..
Aww, it's incredibly nice what you said. I must say that yours was incredibly beautiful!

I didn't think mine made much sense, but 1000 words is hard to paint a complete picture, don't you think? :P

Yes, mine is is about 800 words, but it's so incredibly difficult to write a story that is so short. I like to write to standard and then there will be more 80,000 words instead. So I just have to say that is was a huge task for me.
There were absolutely a picture. I could see it myself, how she died. And how James looked at her. It was very nice, sweet story!
I don`t know if I got out my message, or if anyone understood it. But I hope so :)

At least that's my interpretation. :)

I hope there are more people that is going to join the contest :)

So do I. It's fun! :) Although I'll be happy if either of us win. But so many entered the werewolf one, I'm surprised not many have entered this. :P

Hmm, what I think is because the werewolves, vampires are so incredibly popular that people forget everything else.
What do u think?

I'd agree. But since Fairies, Fallen angels, Witches etc are becoming more popular, I thought there's be more entries. :/

Anyway, I think vampires and werewolves are going to be popular for quite a while.
Since it was the Twilight that got everyone to begin reading vampire books and werewolf books again.

Well, I'm voting for your ghost story, so there's one for you :)

How do you vote? for I am so going to vote for yours :)
Thanks, btw!

The Hunger Games are AMAZING! I have yet to meet one person who hasn't fallen in love with it. The second book is my favourite :)
I would also strongly recommend Divergent. It's incredible.
I'm a Dystopia freak :)

Hehe, I have it one my to-read list in fact :)

And just to get it out of the way I LOVE PEETA!
You'll understand why soon enough :)
DID SOMEONE SAY THE NAME PEETA??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I did! I LOVE HIM!!!!

The nights full-moon shone above the ocean. Awakening the water and rolling waves with the glistening resemblance of shimmering diamonds.
I missed the water and the way it encompassed my body. The depths to which the sea allowed me to travel and the abilities I gained within it’s liquid tendrils. Long forgotten are those natural feelings. Long forgotten is my connection to that part of the world. Now the dark waters are, like to everyone else, secret.
I sigh and look up towards the sky. Looking for what? Hope? Perhaps the stars are where my wishes need to be sent. I hear something that breaks my melancholy mood. A loud gurgling sound quickly followed with lyrics, lyrics long forgotten against my aging, yearning, ears.
“I see you there / Missing me / A secret angel / Below the sea.
Come / Dive in / Come play with me.
Your pretty angel / Below the sea.”
I welcome the song. It means she is near....
... minutes later her glimmering silver eyes break the wading waters and burn into my own. Longing to hold her... missing her with my every ounce of being.
Waves washing around her as she moves closer to the rocks where I wait.
“Serene”... The words past my lips before I even realized I had spoken them. She smiles and my heart breaks a thousandth time. She is everything to me and being with her is almost harder than when she is gone, Inevitable.
“I have missed you...”. Knowing the limited hours before she would leave again were imminent meant I would have to say what needed to be said soon, as much as simply staring at her would normally suffice, apart our time was endless, together our time is numbered. “I need to ask you something...” Not sure if I am making the best decision for us or the best decision for me..
“I have also missed you. I am sure you will never know how much. You can ask me, but first...” and with that her hips rose out of the water, revealing the Emerald Green and Ocean Blue scales that encase her hips. Her stomach that cradles the last fallen tendrils of her Fiery Red Hair. Her lips met mine and I forgot everything but her. I missed her so much that it fogged my memory of what it was like to truly have her. The realization of only having her lips, her eyes and her words for delicately precious moments hit me...
I pulled away. I regretted it, instantly.
“What’s the matter?”, Eyes pleading. “Tell me what you need to. Ask me anything... What is it?”, she asked. A hint of worry on her words. “Nothing is the matter. Aside from my missing you and thinking there has to be a better way. A way we can be together... again... Like before. I have been thinking it over and the only solution I can come up with, that allows this to be possible”, “NO!”, she snapped out before I had even finished. “You don’t even kn”, “I know that it involves my father and, yes, there is a chance but he would never agree to it. Colton you are here, You are human because he made you human. After what you did... After what we did. He would never agree. Could you imagine what he would do, To ME!, If he knew we were seeing each other”. Sadness spread across her face.
“Serene, It’s fine. It was only a thought.”, Taking her face into my hands. “Though I would be willing to do whatever it took to be with you, every moment for the rest of my life. If that meant facing your father, regardless of the consequences, I would be willing. I just wanted you to know that... all you have to do is ask”, I knew I had said all that I could. Our time together was about to end and I knew as well as she did that neither of us would leave like this.
I looked at her again. She was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She meant everything to me and I would do whatever it took to be with her. To protect her. I could not do that from here, from sand. I needed to be with her. Taking her lips to mine. I would see her tomorrow night. I would make things right. Taking in all of her as our lips intertwined. Never wanting to loose this moment.
Taking a breath, I thought about asking her one more time. She spoke before I could muster the courage.
“Colton. I would do whatever it took to have you with me, Forever. I love you and miss you every second we are apart. But I can’t bring myself to face my father, He is not the man he used to be. He has changed....”, She trailed off and searched for the words “...I would go and ask him, If it meant. I could be with you.”, My expression must have said what the words I was lacking couldn’t. “Don’t say anything now. Just miss me until tomorrow.”. With that she kissed my cheek and turned to leave.
“Serene!”, I called. She turned to face me once again. Her silhouette sitting above the tranquil, now resting, waves. “I love you, I am sure you will never know how much”. She smiled and then, was gone. Leaving nothing behind but the memory she was there and the doubt I had for the future.
So there you go. Around about 900 or so characters. I might even add onto it later.
Fun challenge!
The waves wash over my feet and the ebb and flow of memories fills me, just like Gale’s love filled me all those years ago.
I never believed in the mystical, the magical or the magnificent, but there was something about Gale, with his coral green eyes, tousled chestnut hair and his beautiful perspective on things that just screamed other-worldly.
I never would have imagined he was a merman. Of course, I only saw him once a year, when my family and I came to visit my grandmother at her beach house. Our first encounter began when I was 15, and was running across the dock when the locket my mother had given me slipped free from my neck and fell gracefully into the curling blue ocean. I tried to reach it, but it floated away and I had never learned how to swim. Tears spilled down my cheeks and wails racked through my body, until a gentle hand touched my leg and I saw my necklace sitting beside me on the rotted wooden planks.
“Wha-?”
“Thought you might miss it.” His head bobbed up and down in the water like a multi-coloured beach ball, and his grin was just as bright. “I’m Gale”
“Alexis,” After swiping my tears away I offered him my hand and thanked him for finding my necklace. It slipped neatly into my pocket.
“Why don’t you put it back on?”
“The clasp is tricky. I can’t do it by myself. Unless...could you hop up here and help me?”
Gale looked uneasy at the suggestion, and I couldn’t, at the time, understand why.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to...”
“No,” he shook his head. “I want to.”
Gale grabbed the ledge of the dock and heaved himself upward, and I gasped. For a moment before he hit the plank, a long shimmering tail stood where his legs should have. I blinked, and in that moment, they were gone.
“How did you...?”
“You really have to start finishing our questions.” Gale laughed and fire coursed through my neck and cheeks, and I clenched my jaw before I said anything unsavoury. After all, he was pretty cute.
Gale gently pulled my hair across my shoulders, clearing a way for the necklace and all the while leaving a heated trail across my exposed skin.
The clasp snapped closed and I heard Gale gulp.
“Thank you.” I said softly and turned to face him. My grin only grew bigger when I realised he was as red as I was. He looked down and shock passed over him. He gently trailed his fingers across his legs and marvelled at their lightly tanned colour.
I knew it was out of line and would get me in a heap of trouble, but I always said what was on my mind, and at the time, there was one solitary thought.
“I saw your tail.” I blurted out and saw him wince as though it were an accusation.
“You did?” I thought he would deny it. I thought he would call me crazy. But no, he wasn’t like that. Gale believed in honesty before everything else.
“Yes,” the breath I was holding finally set itself free. “It was beautiful.”
He smiled. “You’re beautiful.”
“Stop changing the subject.” He laughed when I looked away. “What are you?”
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“I didn’t think you existed.”
“People tend to believe in things they can see. Logic trumps all. But sometimes you’ve got to have faith and belief, and think outside the box. It’s not faith if you use your eyes, you know?”
“You’re philosophical.” The corners of Gale’s mouth twitched.
“That’s how I was raised. We would ask the questions others would pass by because we were a cause for question ourselves. How did we come to be? Are other mythical creatures like us? Do we exist in our own right, through evolution, or something else...you get me?”
“Not really, no.” My giggles seemed to make him happy, as he grabbed me in his arms and hugged me, the smell of salt wafted into my nostrils and tingles came where his breath fell against my neck. He put a hand on either side of my face, pressed his forehead against mine and, ever so shyly, planted a soft kiss on my lips.
I grabbed him and made it turn from soft kissing to heavy petting.
“I never planned to come above ground,” he breathed, kissing every inch of my face between words. I stood, and pulled him with me, dragging him to the beach just as the sun began to set.
“Why not?” I asked once we reached my favourite secluded spot of sand and dragged him down with me.
“Because now I have to choose.”
“Choose what?”
“My family or my freedom.”
I stopped in my tracks. “How long do you have?”
“A day.”
There was something about him that made me feel as though he belonged with me, that he was the other half that would complete me and that we could have a love that rivalled all the romance books I ever read.
But another part of me knew that even if he loved me, as I suspected I could easily love, and might already love, him, that his family was the most important part of his existence and he could never cut them off, even for love.
And he wouldn’t be the man I knew I could fall for if he could.
“You’re going to choose your family.” Gale looked torn and a tear slipped down his face, but he nodded.
“So let’s make the most of our time together.”
It’s 16 years later, and I have never forgotten him. I come back every year, and on occasion I see him, and on more than a few I join him in the water. But today, I have to let the tide pass and our could- have-been love edge away. For the good of my sanity, my new husband, and my 15 years and 3 month old son. Before he discovers who he is, and how his world, like mine, will be changed forever.
I know, it's really bad, but it's only 100 words :( still, fun to write though.
