BBC Sherlock was a new show that aired this summer. It was the classic Sherlock Holmes, but with a modern twist.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson's adventures in 21st Century London. A thrilling, funny, fast-paced contemporary remake of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic.

I thought it was great how he also used modern technology, like texting and he even used a lab in a hospital. Some of the quotes were cleverly modernized, as well, like "I should be lost without my blogger!" And instead of comparing his mind to an attic, he calls it a hard-drive! What did you think of Moriarty?

I heard that the next season's episodes will be based on The Final Problem, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia. I'm really interested to see who will be casted for Irene Adler.

I was iffy about him at first, but now I really like him in that role. Except for his creepy giggling after the cab chase scene in A Study in Pink. That was just really weird.

Aww, I didn't hear about that. I've seen a few Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes movies... Edward Hardwicke did play a really good Watson, especially in The Sign of Four.

I dunno if it would qualify as giggling, but there's some really awkward laughing that makes him sound like a dolphin. Thank goodness he only does it once!

Exactly! I never understood why all the previous actors made him sound so perfect, when really, he's so much different than everyone else. Sherlock had more socipath-ness (if that's a word) than any other Holmes movie I've seen. I think it connects much more with the novels. Yikes, that Robert Downey Jr Holmes was horrid. Entertaining, but absolutely horrid.

And Martin has that awkward laugh a lot in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He played a perfect Arthur Dent, in my opinion, but the whole plot was drastically altered compared to the book!

Hi, just joined this group!
I personally adored the series. I agree with Brandi and Sammy that this show portrays Sherlock as more of a misfit than other interpretations. I personally thought that by cutting the stereotypical "Victorian gentleman" bit, the show kept with the true tone and personality of the original stories. Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant, in my personal opinion. I love the interaction between his Sherlock and Martin Freeman's Watson.

Hi, welcome to the group! And yup, that show is fantastic. Too bad the second series won't air in the US until 2012... :(

Divanna | 3 comments I think they have done an amazing job with modernizing Sherlock and Watson. They use modern technology and logic to solve the mysteries. Sherlock's personality and his method of uncovering facts is extraordinary. Also, the dynamic between Sherlock and Watson is very fun to watch.

Great point. This makes them the perfect team because they balance each other out, each giving what the other cannot give.

message 26: by LadyDisdain (new)

LadyDisdain I love this show so much. The writing, the filming, everything about it is excellent. Not to mention the acting.
I just recently watched the last episode (Reichenbach Fall) and am suffering from Sherlock withdrawls now. Such a long wait till the next season. But I guess I have the books to keep me company till then.

message 27: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Haha I seriously wish i got BBC as a channel. Any one know if they have a place where you can watch it online?

Καθηλωμένο ένα | 3 comments Im in New Zealand so we watch them, like, 2-6 months after they have come out, which really sucks as I love the WAYYY to much :P

message 36: by Monica (new)

Monica Another New Zealand buddy!!!!! It is depressing how it comes out so late. I resort to the internet.

message 38: by Krystal (new)

Krystal This is an amazing version of Sherlock, I love it. The only thing that I don't like so much is how rude Sherlock is. They could make him a little nicer as he is in the books.

message 39: by Krystal (new)

Krystal I read that book last week and when I got to the Smaug and Bilbo part all i could do was laugh because I could hear Benedict and Martin

message 40: by Rose (new)

Rose (seekeroftruth) This is my favorite show hands down. It's brilliant beyond words and I am completely obsessed with every part of it. I've watched every episode at least twice by now. Others more than that.

You're even weirder on the Internet than you are in real life, and that's saying something.
