DC is a dragon-raising game. You grab eggs and get them views and unique views to make them hatch and mature. And that's basically it. ^^

i'll check out the site. thanks.

ahh, much better than that 5 pages long info section above. thanks!!
You can't do anything with it. The shell will stay on your scroll for two weeks, and it will lock an egg slot for 24 hours from the time you killed it. o3o
This is the (new) topic to come to when you need help on DC. You can also ask questions here. :3
There is basic and more advanced play information in this topic as well as random trivia. :3
Yes it's long but some of these things can't really be condensed. Sorry for length D|
====================================
.:Basic Information:.
For beginners or anyone just wanting to refresh their memories.
A couple of basic terms you might see used:
-Caveborn (CB): This means that an egg/hatchie/dragon has no parents or other ancestors.
-Main cave: dragcave.net The place where most people get eggs.
-Abandoned Page (AP): dragcave.net/abandoned A place where peoples' abandoned eggs and hatchlings go.
-Scroll-locked: A term meaning that you cannot pick up any more eggs or hatchlings until you have no more than 3 eggs and 3 hatchlings on your scroll again.
-Trophy: There are three scroll trophies: bronze, silver, and gold. You get them when you reach a certain number of dragons on your scroll; 50 dragons for the bronze trophy, 200 for the silver, and 500 for the gold trophy. Remember that growing eggs and hatchlings don't count toward your trophy, only adults and frozen things do. (Other badges are explained later on.)
-DC: The abbreviation for Dragon Cave.
-TJ/TJ09: The site owner.
-Burned: If a user has violated the ToS in some way, their scroll can be burned - that is, that scroll is banned.
-Views (V)/Unique Views (UV): Views are things that your egg or hatchling needs to grow. Up to 15 of these per user may be given to your egg or hatchling. / Unique views are the views given per user who views your dragon. Only one unique view can be given per user.
.::Raising eggs and hatchies::.
First off, how to get eggs and hatchlings. Eggs can be grabbed in the main cave (dragcave.net) or in the abandoned page (AP) (dragcave.net/abandoned). Sometimes, people will also abandon hatchies to the AP, so you can also catch hatchies in the AP only (the other ways to get hatchies are to hatch eggs or trade for hatchies).
You can have a maximum of 9 growing items on your scroll at once. No more than 5 can be eggs, but all nine can be hatchies. Up to four eggs can be caught in the cave or AP. The fifth egg, if desired, must be bred.
To get your eggs and hatchlings to grow into adults, you need to get them views. The best way to do this is to add them to fansites. Adding an egg or a hatchling to a fansite will allow it to be viewed by other DC users so it can grow. List of fansites: http://forums.dragcave.net/index.php?...
Eggs and hatchlings, however, can get sick if they get too many views. Egg sickness is called softshell (hatchie sickness is just called sickness). These can be potentially deadly to your items. They are both caused by your egg or hatchie getting too many views too fast.
Some ways to avoid sickness and softshell:
-Do not add eggs or hatchlings to any fansites at all if they have over 6 days left. They get sickness more easily when their time is higher than 6 days.
-Don't add eggs or hatchies to too many fansites, either. They don't need huge numbers of V and UV to grow all the time.
An egg typically needs around 500 views and 200 unique views to hatch. A hatchling needs at least twice that. These numbers are not set, however, and some items may take fewer views and others more to grow.
Now on to deaths! Your eggs and hatchlings can die a number of ways:
-Earthquake (Pebble BSA - look further below for what BSAs are): This BSA causes an earthquake that targets eggs. It can either hatch or kill the eggs. It has a higher chance of killing the eggs, however. Earthquake targets ALL the eggs on your scroll. Eggs killed with this method take up an egg spot for 24 hours from the time it died.
-Kill (action): One action available on almost everything is Kill. Kill does just that: it kills whatever you're trying to kill. This is the only way adults can be killed. Hatchlings and adults can avoid your attack sometimes, but eggs cannot.
-Death by sickness/softshell: Your egg or hatchie dies from softshell or sickness. These deaths don't take up spots on your scroll.
-Death by vampire bite: If you have a vampire dragon, it has a BSA called Bite that can be used once a month. It has a chance of making a vamp egg that stays on your scroll, a chance of turning but repulsing (auto-abandoning the egg to the AP), and a chance of death. Only eggs can be bitten. An egg killed via bite will take up an egg spot for 24 hours from the time it died.
Only hatchlings and adults can be revived, so be careful when using anything that could kill a special egg.
That's it for the most basic stuff; if anyone sees anything I missed poke me and I'll add it in. :3
============================
.:Intermediate Stuff:.
Once you get to know the basics of the game, there are other things to do with it.
.::Breed-Specific Actions::.
Commonsly called BSAs.
BSAs are actions specific to a certain breed. Here is a list of the current BSAs, what they do, and which dragon they can be used with:
-Incubate: Red dragon BSA. Incubate can be used only on eggs with 3 days or more left on them. It takes 24 hours (1 day) off a single egg. This BSA can be used once every two weeks.
-Influence: Pink dragon BSA. Influence can only be used on eggs with more than 3 days left on them. It influences an egg to be the same gender as the pink you use to influence it. It can be used every 7 days.
-Bite: Vampire dragon BSA. Bite can only be used on eggs. It can kill, turn and repulse, or turn and keep the egg. Can be used once every 31 days.
-Splash: Shallow Water dragon BSA. This BSA is a play on Magikarp's (a Pokemon) attack "Splash." It does nothing, but if you Splash enough (100-120 times) you will get a little Magikarp badge at the top of your scroll. Can be used once every 24 hours.
-Summon: Trio (Thunder, Ice, and Magma) dragons' BSA. A BSA that allows you to attempt to summon a Guardian of Nature egg. The BSA has an incredibly low success rate. It can only be used when you are unlocked (have less than 4 eggs and 4 hatchies). It can be used once every 2 weeks, and it uses up all your trio dragons.
.::Badges::.
There are several badges. However, only two can be obtained outside of certain past events. You may see some of these badges on scrolls.
-Easter basket badge: A badge on the leftmost side. It contains eggs caught in the Festival Of Eggs events that took place on Easter in 2010 and 2011. There is no way to get the basket badge outside of these events.
-Trophy: explained earlier.
-Magikarp badge: explained earlier.
-Firework badge: A Badge that appeared on the scrolls of people who logged into their scrolls on July 4 2010. You cannot get it unless you logged in that day.
-Halloween Bucket badge: An event in 2010 for Halloween that was like the Festival of Eggs, but with Halloween-themed treats to get. Basket cannot be obtained outside of this event.
-Christmas tree badge: A badge signifying that you logged in at least once during the days the Christmas Tree Decorating event/contest was going on. Cannot be obtained outside this event. Special prizes were given to the winners of this contest (look at the trivia/random info section below).
-Carrot badge: A badge given to scrolls on April Fool's Day 2011. It was a joke: dragons were suddenly carrots, drakes were potatoes, and dinos were bananas. Leetle trees were broccoli, eggs were seeds, hatchlings were sprouts. Cannot be obtained outside April Fool's Day 2011.

.:Advanced Play:.
For users who want to do something more with their eggs, hatchies, and dragons.
Figured I might go ahead and make a section for stuff like this since it may get asked at some point. :3
.::Breeding and Lineages::.
Breeding's not really advanced, but making pretty lineages like some users enjoy can feel more advanced sometimes. That's what this is for.
"Lineage" refers to the lineage of the dragon. If a dragon is not CB, it will have a "View Lineage" button underneath the parents' names. Clicking this will take you to the dragon's lineage.
There are several types of lineages:
-Even generation (even gen): A lineage in which all the ancestors are in the lineage; there are no missing ancestors anywhere. http://dragcave.net/lineage/E8Ym is an example of an even gen lineage.
-Checkerboards (chequerboards): This is a form lineage in which there are only two breeds. One breed is always male and the other is always female. http://dragcave.net/lineage/ubrO is an example of a checkerboard lineage.
-Staircase (stairstep): A lineage form where bred dragons are bred to CB dragons always. http://dragcave.net/lineage/8OL4 is an example of a staircase lineage.
Other lineage terms:
-Inbred: A dragon that has the same ancestor appearing at least once in its lineage. CB and 2nd gen dragons cannot be inbred. Inbred lineages can be quite nice looking.
-Purebred: A dragon that has only one breed of dragon in the entire lineage (for example, a black dragon with only black ancestors).
-Messy: A lineage that seems to have no shape to it; it often looks haphazard and sloppy. Many people don't like lineages like this.
.::TRADING::.
http://sites.google.com/site/lastalda... The best guide to trading I've found. Read it, she explains it better than I ever could. :)
.::IRC::.
irc.technoized.com
The official DC chatroom. To enter it, type in a nickname and in the channel# box enter "dc" or "dctrades" depending on what you want. "dc" is that chatroom where you can ask questions and such. "dctrades" is the trading room where you can post your trade offers.

.:Other Random Info You Might Find Interesting:.
Just random trivia and such, as well as info on events, holiday, and some rare and hard-to-find dragons. :3
-The uber-rare Tinsel (Prize) dragons were given out to 30 winners of the 2010 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest. There are only 30 CB Tinsels in existence. 5 are gold, 10 are silver, and 15 are bronze. 20 other people received Honorable Mention prizes.
-Holiday dragons are dragons that appear on holidays. Halloween dragons appear on Halloween, Valentine's dragons on Valentine's day, and Christmas dragons on Christmastime. Holiday dragons are CB only once, meaning if you want one the following year it can only be second gen. The following are the holiday dragons in cave now, along with their years of release:
V-Days:
V-day '09:2009
V-day 2010 (Sweetlings):2010
V-day 2011 (Rosebuds):2011
Halloweens:
Vampires: 2008
Pumpkins: 2009
Black Marrows: 2010
Christmases:
Holly: 2007
Yulebuck: 2008
Snow Angel: 2009
Ribbon Dancer: 2010
Fun fact: Snow Angels have three wing varieties, pure gold-winged, gold/white winged, and tri-color winged. A scroll can only have one color of wing.
Some Holiday dragons have special "spiter alts", which are versions of the dragon given ONLY to the artists who made them. Sweetlings, Rosebuds, Snow Angels and Ribbon Dancers all have spriter alt versions.
